Setting was a big part of what I loved about the first. I've heard that it's slow, but for me, that perfectly suits how I like to play this type of game. I just like to soak in the atmosphere and the cowboy vibe. I'm sure I'll love it, but I've been surprised before.
Oh....oh no bud, we don't mean slow like soaking in the setting, we mean the game is slow and even boring with a game clearly about the "wild" west. You can't actively rob banks like freely in the open world. The weapon wheel resets every time you get off the horse for basically no reason but to be stupid about design (never happens in GTAV btw and ZERO logical reason to do this in Red Dead 2), the controls are just horrid, I don't need to HOLD DOWN A DAMN BUTTON to confirm I want to pick something up, it is obvious that is my intent and yet,(press to pick up, hold shoulder button, confirm? (YES/NO), (sends confirmation email to make sure you REALLY want to pick that gun up) lol So we don't mean "slow" like the easy going country life, we mean like the actual controls, movement and even certain events move like snail on heroin.
You can still enjoy the setting as I do annnnnnnnnd have responsive controls. I don't need to hold a damn button down to do every damn thing in the game, let my weapon wheel ACTUALLY remember my set up (my person didn't just get alzheimer's), let me actually RUN ANYWHERE AT ANY TIME, no reason to force someone to walk indoors while they are being shot at looking like an idiot. Let me rob any bank at any time, no different then I can rob a shop, the set up is almost the same anyway. Put mask on, point gun at teller and clearly demand funds, or slip note etc, tie up, do mini game with safe, get money, ride horse in chase. NONE OF THAT is impossible to do as you clearly can do all that anyway in the game separately and even in missions. Their choice to do this is a design choice I don't agree with and I like the damn game, doesn't mean I like its obvious flaws. Some where along the way, Rockstar forgot they were making a game about crime and choice. They decided to put in many features that beg to question WHY they are in game like this.
The above reasons given, trust me....are not what you mean when you say you welcome a slow pace, you are not really saying you welcome and enjoy the above. You can still like the setting and theme etc while being able to freely move, rob and shoot whom ever without any cumbersome issues. If anything, you'd like it more without those issues.
