A German court has ruled that parents can’t have their sons circumcised on religious grounds in a move which has angered Muslim and Jewish groups in the country.

The court in Cologne decided that a legal guardian’s authority over a child does not allow them to subject them to the procedure, which the court called minor bodily harm, reports The Financial Times Deutschland

Good on Germany. They are the first to start this trend it seems. One day circumcision will be illegal in the majority of countries. We will look back at circumcision and wonder what the fuck people were thinking. Kids will read it in history texts books and ask the teacher "did people actually do this?"

Good. And I'm cut. It's just such an asinine tradition, and to do it when the boy has no say in the matter is just wrong. It's time to end it.

I can see where they're coming from, but I love my wing-wang without its hat. I would have my wing-wang no other way! As long as it's still a choice for adults, that's all that matters to me.

Sure, if you want to be more at risk for penis cancer, hpv, and other diseases.

That's what condoms are for.

If you are going raw because you think that your thickened epithelium is going to keep you safe from all kind of venereal nasties... well, you could do us all a favour and stop fucking around.

There is some evidence that circumcision has health benefits, including:

A decreased risk of urinary tract infections.
A reduced risk of sexually transmitted diseases in men.
Protection against penile cancer and a reduced risk of cervical cancer in female sex partners.
Prevention of balanitis (inflammation of the glans) and balanoposthitis (inflammation of the glans and foreskin).
Prevention of phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin) and paraphimosis (the inability to return the foreskin to its original location).
Circumcision also makes it easier to keep the end of the penis clean.

I'm wondering though, how many circumcisions (for religious reasons) are actually happening in hospitals?
They definitely don't have to be. There are usually enough people trained to do it amongst religious groups. Others would likely prefer them happening in a hospital though.

Assuming Christians don't circumcise & other groups don't circumcise in Germany as the norm, the law isn't really going to change a religious requirement no matter how hard they try.

What's really stupid is from the article, they are basing the law on an accident. No procedures should be allowed at all if it's due to a doctor error.

Interesting part of the article:

The decision sets a precedent, which may affect medical practice across the country.

The possible ban on circumcision provoked outrage among Jewish and Muslim organizations in Germany, where every year thousands of boys are circumcised in their early years at the request of parents. They regard the ban as a "serious interference in the right to freedom of religion." But none of the organizations so far has commented on the verdict, explaining they first need to study thoroughly the reasoning of the judges.

Some experts however don’t rule out that the right for religiously motivated circumcision will be considered by the Federal Constitutional Court
.
At least this court has enough sense to call this shit for what it is.
Yup, minor bodily harm...

My wife and I both love my cut wang, but I put my foot down against circumcision if our baby turned out to be a boy. Luckily we are having a girl so the argument is moot.

This is awesome of Germany.

I can't imagine my life with a foreskin and I fap everyday :p

Seriously, let's all be happy we have a penis and not argue about such things (not saying you are, but others are)

Edit: Also, I hope those going against circumcision are also against ear piercings for girls.

Sure, if you want to be more at risk for penis cancer, hpv, and other diseases.

The risk isn't statistically significant enough for nationwide bodies representing doctors to recommend the practice as a method of prevention. The ritual is done largely because of a covenant with a magical invisible skyfather.

How is it harmful?

You're lobbing off a piece of the penis....is the harm not obvious? There are also numerous men who suffer from it long into their lives through lack of sensitivity, it can also make it more difficult to masturbate and can increase the chances of ED. It potentially lowers quality of life in regards to sexual pleasure, pretty harmful imo.

Yeah good point.

Hey btw is it cool with you if I come over and cut off other parts of your baby that wont do any 'harm'? I'll start with the ear lobes.
That's a bullshit analogy. If a parents wants to circumcise their child it's their own choice.

Foreskin doesn't do shit and has medical benefits to getting it removed.

This whole debate is like getting appalled at having your tonsils removed.

From the same link:

Is circumcision necessary?

The use of circumcision for medical or health reasons is an issue that continues to be debated. Currently, the American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend routine circumcision for newborn males stating the evidence was not significant enough to prove the operation's benefit. The procedure may be recommended in older boys and men to treat phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin) or to treat an infection of the penis.

Parents should talk with their doctor about the benefits and risks of the procedure before making a decision regarding circumcision of a male child. Other factors, such as your culture, religion, and personal preference, will also impact your decision.

Note: Some studies show that good hygiene can help prevent certain problems with the penis, including infections and swelling, even if the penis is not circumcised. In addition, using a condom during sex will help prevent STDs and other infections.
