Surprisingly, reviewers are actually calling Capcom out on the cut content. I hope Capcom takes this to heart.

Capcom is not a human being to have feelings. They're just a company driven by profit (like any other company out there)
Therefore, they can't take anything to heart. Only human beings take things to heart.
Maybe the corridors of power within Capcom might change their future policy, maybe they won't. Whatever....

Bro, no matter what cvxfreak reckons over there in Japan, people are gonna buy the game anyhow.
Why? It's Capcom's best selling series of all time, and there's quite an audience out there in the world.
All those hungry RE fans are literally yearning and craving for their next Resident Evil fix.
In this case, it comes in the form of RE3Remake.

They took RE6's reception to heart and completely course-corrected the series as a result, even though it is the second best selling game in the franchise, and the third best selling Capcom game ever.

Once people stop playing REsistance, probably a couple weeks after it releases, I am willing to bet Capcom will never fuck up a remake like this again (in the sense that they'd bank on an online-only multiplayer mode to pick up all the slack for a unfinished, yet highly anticipated campaign).

The 6 hour time... I think it's because a lot of reviewers were just running through it, not exploring everything. I play survival horror games very slowly (my first clear of The Evil Within was 24 hours, where as most completed it in half the time). Also, I think I previously posted this in another thread, the original IGN review for RE5 had a 6 hour clear time. Not too worried, Shadows of the Damned length I reckon.

On the plus side I keep hearing that Nemesis is underused - good, he was the worst thing about the demo - and that there are more zombie heads to pop. Still day one for me, can't wait.
Thank you! I also like to walk in SH games while some other people like to do speedruns. I definitely see this being a 8-9 hr game for me.

I don't really know what else people were expecting.

It feels like a strong case of deja vu, cos the complaints and sentiments are basically same as what we got 20 years ago with the originals.

By most accounts, it's still an amazing game.

The quick turnaround time for this game isn't a shortcoming, it's a blessing and means we are finally close to the point of experiencing true glory:

My last preorder was doom eternal cuz of doom 64.
And thats all i play ever since.

I wont preorder any new game for a while. The demo was already off putting so no buy after these poor reviews and huge lack of content.

I dont expect much better from ff7 as the demo didnt grab me at all.
Hope i am wrong.

I feel that these recent remakes remove increasingly to many elements from the originals.
  • In RE1 they didn't downgrade a goddamn thing! Only added!
  • In RE2 they removed some enemies and pretty much butchered the 2nd scenarios. We were ok with it since the new engine was so damn impressive.
  • In RE3 they removed the alternative paths, half of the areas, the random encounters and the mercenaries mode. In adition, a large portion of the content in the game are reused assets from RE2. That's way to much of a downgrade! They added that online multiplayer mode that nobody asked for (and to think that we initially thought that it was an independent game)...

There's the Last of Us Part II down the line waiting for its May 29th release.

You're missing the point. The remake cut out a lot of elements the people loved about the original RE3.

Since you bring up RE4, let's treat the remake of it the way the RE team treated RE3:
-No more mercenaries or optional modes like Assignment Ada or Separate ways.
-The castle area? Yeah, we are gonna cut that out of the game.
-We are also are getting rid of some major boss battles: Kraser and Salazar are cut.
-40% of the enemies will be removed and replaced with RE2make assets.
-Village is now much shorter.
-No more merchant--too silly.

Now in order to make up for everything, we added a online-only multiplayer mode than no one asked for or wants.
As the great Neil deGrease Tyson would say -> "get over it!"

Get over what? You said Capcom doesn't care about the critics, and I told you that's not true.

Also, bringing up Last of Us is completely unrelated. That's not even an argument, you're just stating that a totally different game is coming out.... uh, cool?

Had such high hopes after RE2R. Why Capcom why? You had redeemed yourselves, and now you cut content from RE3 and add an MP component no one is interested in and that will die in a couple weeks?

A lot of places that they couldn't reuse assets from 2 were cut.

The branching choices being cut is also a bummer.

RE2R had 4 endings and 4 different playthroughs (route A and B for Claire and Leon).

This has one ending AFAIK and because of what they cut the only reason to replay it is to do the higher difficulty and NG+ runs.
You speak as though these "endings" are a big deal when it's just 2 slightly different cutscenes dude.

Original 3 didn't have multiple endings but it had some choices that changes some things in the game like where Nemesis will show.

The gameplay changes (weapons) are enough to make each playthrough feel fresh, it's not just the cutscenes. Also you don't go to the house and play as Sherry in Leon's playthrough but you do in Claire's. You don't play Ada in Claire's but you do in Leon's.

It's not just about the endings.

Probably posted already but Skillup ravages this

Hey CAPCOM can we get a classic collection now? These remakes are cool and all but nothing tops the OGs.

This game has multiple weapons only unlocked after completeing the game, comparing it to 2 is a moot point since this like the original on PS1 is a quick 2.5 sequal with interesting mechanics like the dodge and Nemesis.

I mean are there any additional modes in the game like RE2 Remake had? Like those scenarios with Kendo, Hunk, etc? They could add something like that to RE3, no?
I wonder if this why they are including the "Resistance" for "free".

Still excited for the game though.

Ok thanks for clearing that up.

I'll just wait for it to be ≤0.5 the price then.

Who hasnt?
Then you know that Nemesis was never the true RE3 as that was Code Veronica and Nemesis was made cause of the 3 Resident Evil games on PS2 deal Capcom made with Sony.

Nemesis was always a side story made in half the time with expermental mechanics like the dodge and leand a bit more on the action side of things.

a cave outside of Whoville.
Damn, it's really short? That kinda sucks. The worst thing about RE2 was that each subsequent area gets less intricate than the last. I was hoping this one was actually going to expand things so that the whole game felt like the police station...

People already complained about Nemesis in the demo, which didn't bother me a single bit, so I'm not sure if I'll be agreeing with complaints about him.

This has me worried about CVX. If they decide to do that one too, I'm scared they'll let this team make it.

For £49.99, i'd like a little more. I'm a touch more frugal with money nowdays.

I dont really get the complaints about 6 hours length. I have watched people play through the individual RE2 campaigns in like 2 hours, less than 2 hours even. Sure they have played the game multiple times and thats why they are doing only taking that long but 6 hours would of been pretty long for the RE2 remake at launch.

These reviewers play on normal/standard a.k.a. games journalist/blogger difficulty. What about higher difficulties? Are ink ribbons still a thing? I have not heard anyone mention that.

There are no ink ribbons in R3make, but beating hardcore unlocks Nightmare/Inferno difficulty, which remix some enemy and item locations.

Demo didn’t wow me. Been playing since the original game and my favourites are 1 and 2. 3 just never clicked with me and I think it’s the setting. The setting itself usually makes a RE game for me and I just prefer the locked in and isolated settings in the mansion and police station.

I will buy, eventually. 30-40% off and I’m buying and trying. I’m not hyped so the purchase can wait.

Yeah, well, that's the least of R3make's problems if you ask me.

Another thing that is important to note is that the Hardcore mode in R3make is the same as Standard in RE2make in terms of difficulty.

Then i'll wait for the complete game save to start off on highest difficulty. Standard difficulty wasn't the way to play re2make. This is a fucking survival genre(at least supposed to be) and you supposed to be in the deficit of everything on your first playthrough.

Completing Hardcore unlocks Nightmare, then you complete that to unlock Inferno. Nightmare seems the be the way to play it.

Wasn't expecting it to be any longer than RE2R, as long as what is in the game is good i'll be happy with it.

At the pace I play my games I'm sure I'll be at 10+ hours before the credits start rolling.

I'm thinking about getting a refund. £50 pounds is too much for a 5-6 hour game.

The fact its nestled right between Doom Eternal and FF7 makes that choice easier. I'll definitely pick it up later on in the year at a deep discount.

REmake is still the perfection of survival-horror, but RE2make was no slouch either. With a better utilized soundtrack and a more robust 2nd Run (akin to the B Scenarios in the classic RE2), RE2make could have been perfect imo.

I think both Re2make and R3make would have benefitted very much from delays. I'm especially baffled as to why Capcom felt the need to rush out R3make when no one was expecting it.

Keyboard and mouse controls are great in this game, I see no reason why you wouldn't use them.

Then maybe try the first person mod for your second playthrough:

What's frustrating is that Capcom has actually listened to critics and fans in the past. Even though RE6 is one of the best selling Capcom games ever, Capcom course corrected the series because the reception of the game.

If critics and fans weren't shills and actually criticized obvious bullshit like all the cut content in RE3, then maybe Capcom would learn from their mistakes. Instead, let's give a 9 or 10 out of 10 to a game that is clearly rushed and lacking a lot of content...
