"B-b-b-b-but Capcom is going lowbudget with RE7! Because some of us really like to jump to conclusions!"

Serious post; this looks amazing; tremendous amount of work here being done.
That was always a strange assumption. It may be cheaper in the end than something like RE6 since they aren't globetrotting or going for big setpieces, but they seem to be trading that in for a hyper level of detail since it takes place in first person and you'll be seeing things upclose. So it never was going to be a "cheap" game or something that an indie dev could make (in terms of budget).

Can you guys chill with the "there isn't any combat" until after Tokyo Game Show please. We probably aren't going to get a random dump of new information or videos before then.

Even as a very good render, it looks like there is some subtle aliasing on the chairs and the rug texture looks a little compressed. Maybe it is just the potato cam quality.

Edit:
Woooo, VR really siphoned those potential visuals.
Yes, VR is the reason. Definitely not the shockingly underpowered current gen console hardware.

Yeah. Everytime I see these "we didn't know the consoles would end up being so weak" period screenshots of games coming out I grow just a bit more resentful towards my PS4 xD I also feel a bit bad for hoping that games would be 30fps on consoles so I could have better assets and just brute force it to be 60fps on PC.

Interesting tech, let's hope the game matches it.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this one though. I too agree it sits better with me if this was a spin-off Resident Evil. Call it Resident Evil: Regions or something lol.

I expect the combat to be a few shots from your pistol or any gun before your character automatically ditches it just to find another one at a later point in the game.

I'm expecting a slow burn pacing-wise. But I hope I'm wrong as I love RE. I wonder what craziness this one beholds.

Yeah, 'cause RE 5/6 and the pletora of spin-offs were high budget (marketing, maybe).

Resident Evil has stopped being a AAA franchise after 4.

They may have had the budget, but quality? No way.

I'm really intrigued by the new direction, it could be something special and a new start for a beloved yet disappointing series.

How in the world is RE5 not a "quality" game?

I'm so tired of GAF's "I don't like it > objectively bad" shit.

Wow, that looks really great! I'd assumed the demo was giving us a pretty good idea of what the game would look like (since it needs to run at 60 FPS on consoles for VR purposes), but this looks way better. Still somewhat doubtful they can achieve that fidelity at 60 FPS, but color me impressed if they can manage it.
They can't.

Compared to 4? Definitely a lot worse.

I guess that was the general consensus? I didn't mean to bash the game imposing my own personal view. I liked the game. It's just not up to the highs 4 reached.

There are some interesting shots in there, and a few more that look like they are from Beginning Hour assets.

These shots seem to be more 'finished' and put together than the rest, and more so you can recognize some of the areas from trailers/Beginning Hour, so these might be particularly interesting:

Give me them zombies!

Thanks dusk, this is amazing stuff. It's finally becoming RE. I am still baffled at why they decided to go the boring demo route.

Zombies, yay~!

Alright, now I'm really interested in seeing what this game looks like in full at TGS.

Man, this game is looking better and better! Will Capcom make a triumphant return with RE7?

I hope so!

because they wanted to focus on what they perceive to be a big divergence from recent resident evil games aka a teaser demo rather than a full blown demo?

Game is confirmed to have combat by multiple interviews, and the RE7 ERSB Rating Review that went up a few days ago says the game has combat with weapons including pistols, shotguns, explosives, flamethrowers, chainsaws, and more.
Thanks, should've read more before asking, but much appreciated and glad to hear it :)

I hope they have alot of cool, gory, and hilarious way to die in this game.

On another note, I'm wondering, since this game is coming out next year, that means that this game will have to support PSNeo. I wonder what will improve with the neo version? Would they have to make 4 different specifications for the game since you would have Reg. PS4 and VR experience, then you would the Neo PS4 and VR experience?

The old characters would really feel out of place in this, since they've always been way stylized. Which is the only thing I'll be missing alongside a visible character who's unique, but at least the environments looked very much RE in the last trailer.

I wonder what kind of load high quality/resolution texture work puts on GPUs? Are memory bandwidth and memory size the main inhibitors for determining what quality assets you can use? I ask this because Photogrammetry seems to be the new work around for simulating a lot of detail in mostly static environments, or scenes with a mostly static light source, with high performance.

I think of EA's Battlefront and how amazing that games looks, while running at 60fps, on consoles. I wonder if high quality texture work and smartly placed lighting will allow for higher quality visuals in titles with stringent frame timing requirements (ala VR titles)? Bethesda's IdTech6 and Doom come to mind when it comes to amazing visuals at 60+ fps on consoles.

Probably because they're trying to grab some new people, since they know the RE fanboys are going to lap this up on day one regardless.

As long as RE7 has some classic staples of the series, it doesn't matter when they reveal them. RE fans will buy it regardless of when Capcom's marketing team decides to show certain aspects of the game.

Pretty impressive stuff. It definitely makes sense given how weak the assets in RE6 often were, and considering how technically limited the last few releases in the series have been. If this means they can circumvent their strained budgets to still provide higher quality assets, that's great news.

Someday capcom will design a female character that doesn't have the same bubble butt as every other one of their female characters....someday...
I hope that day never comes.

Both the demo and the lantern trailer left me completely cold but I really like what I'm seeing here.

But who got more excited for RE7 because of that demo, the reception was mostly negative. The game still isn't being talked about much. This is RESIDENT EVIL, it should be one of the biggest releases of next year. Crappy games like evolve get preorder campaigns like 9 months before release and are all over Best Buy. Wake up Capcom, lets get the hype going.

Looking at the zombies they don't look dead. One of them is a guy who is infected with something that is making boils on his face, so its growing in him. These are the new Ganado, wonder how fast they will move. I like the theory of a plant virus, it all fits so far.

I assume the "family" are all crazy monsters underneath and will be our boss battles. Cant wait to kill welcome to the family guy.

The reception has overall been pretty positive or, at worst, mixed. A vocal minority of RE diehards doesn't mean the overall reception has been negative.

The game still isn't being talked about much.
Sure it is. New threads pop up all the time. I'm sure once TGS rolls around, it'll be talked about even more.

Wait, wut?

Beyond people getting pissed about the finger and a subset of the core saying 'Thats not my Resident Evil' (who I'd wager would be saying 'Yawn more of the same' if it was just Resi 6 on steroids), I thought reception was pretty good?

A Resident Evil game that looks genuinely creepy, felt tense to play through and bucked the recent trend of games getting announced 2+ years before they were due to release

This is a bit off-topic, but there's finally a clean rip of Resident Evil 7's 'Save Theme':
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPr6Oq2x4PQ

It's the music them that comes with a RE7 PSN Theme you get when you pre-order the game on PS4. The music theme sounds like a save room theme, and every other RE PSN Theme uses the game's Save Room theme, so it seems likely.
I really like it! Seems to fit well with the game's setting.

Speaking of PS4 RE themes, any you guys would recommend?

The question is.. will it look this good on consoles? I played the demo and it was not impressive at all visually, also recent example of tech demos is FFXV, it doesn't look like that on consoles.

Those look amazing, but I lost faith on this type of tech reaching the consumer on such optimal levels. There are always a million factors that will reduce the quality of those advanced graphic techniques until the final product gets released in the market. From consoles actual graphical output performance, to ridiculous file sizes of high quality assets, etc.

My faith in tech magic was slowly being chipped away with each overpromising game released this gen. That's not a bad thing though, I like to think that i'm having more realistic expectations, and putting myself at the risk of being gladly surprised when an ambitious game actually fully delivers some mindblowing stuff.

I think a lot of RE fans are on the fence right now. The volume of negativity and 'not my RE' comments surrounding the demo is something I thought would never happen, due to the historic strength of the IP. The full game really does have a lot to prove. If it doesn't, I can see a lot of fans sitting 8 out if it's more of the same, which would be a disaster for Capcom and RE.

Wait, wut?

I thought reception was pretty good?
The most vocal critics seem to be long-time fans who are assuming that RE has gone to a different place which coincides with modern horror expectations, and to be fair, based on the demo, there's a case to be made for that. There's a lot of negativity, not just here but everywhere.

Personally, I think it's going to be a good game, but I'd desperately like to see some RE-like elements beyond solving puzzles and a limited inventory.

Wow! Looks freaking ace. Much better than anything they've done in the past. Cannot wait for it to come out. Already reserved, still hoping for a CE.
