I know this might be just me, but isn't it bit too dark when your inside the house, and bright outside in Seaside?

Yep thats how it is for me. I had a little better round just before but the amount of bullets it takes to kill someone is pretty bad(for me at least). Its like it only takes two shots then I'm dead.
I don't know what's wrong with the game, there are some times when I hipfire close range, put bullet after bullet into him only to discover that he still has about 50% health.
Then there are times when I hipfire across the map and get a headshot instantly, god forbid if I aim at the torso you better come again after you have watched the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, that's how long it takes to kill someone. jk

If an enemy runs past me he shouldn't be able to turn around only because he is shot at and kill me!

With that said I'll give it another try today.

hipfire, while still hitting, seems to be woefully underpowered compared to ADS (which is goddamn stupid).

Noticed one horrible glitch jstevenson, I was in a chain reaction game on Seaside, when suddenly a player on the opposing team became completely invisible and invincible as well.

Needless to say even though we were the better team, we lost, and the invisible/invincible player went 37 and 6. Please add this to the "official" fix list.

Just played a little more, and hipfire is indeed underpowered. I don't wait this to become a ADS-only game like a lot of them out there. It really shows a lot of promise and is definitely less buggy than a lot of betas I've played.

you sound like a camper.
Depends on the situation. If I play as a sniper(which isnt often because I suck at sniping) then yes I'll sneak around. But the majority of the time I run around like a crazy person.
I mean how easy do you have it when someone is camping? You know where they are so go get them. It's not that hard to do.. :-D

EDIT: Game froze for me at the end of a game at the level up menu showing what I unlocked.

HAAAAAAAAAATE the new run. Ugh. Makes me want to cry, especially after having played a bit of R2 multiplayer last night.

Hold button in - run. Tap - crouch/stand up. There was nothing wrong with that! It was awesome! Now having two totally different buttons for each, and having run be "tap to turn on/off" is terrible. Really, really wish we could have this as an option when customizing controls.

Also - not directed at R3, but FPS games on consoles in general - whomever was first to put sprint on the L3 button needs to be slapped. UGH WHY SUCH A STUPID IDEA?!

Only 2 really glaring complaints right now.

1. Killstreaks shouldn't stack, this was one of the shittiest things about MW2. It only helps the leaders get a bigger lead. Edit: realized I should clarify, I mean that kills from one killstreak (Auger for example) shouldn't count towards the next (mutation)

2. Time between rounds should be cut down some, it seems like you look at the scoreboard for a while between rounds.

Other than that I am really enjoying it.

Shotgun master. love the carbine as well so fun to use.

Killstreaks do not stack.
Then at the very least they should make it so that Auger kills don't count towards the Mutation killstreak. Once you have the Auger it is pretty much trivial to get another few kills.

True.

The only glitch I've encountered is that if the game ends while your sprinting, your character keeps sprinting and the panting can be heard over the scoreboard screen. It's annoying. Anyone want to fix that?

I changed it to L2 as soon as I started it up and never looked back. But yeah, only thing I'd like added is the option to toggle/hold for sprinting.

Edit: it keeps putting me in a lobby with no one else in.

It just takes a while for your "eyes" to get used to the new lighting conditions.

It's the same effect the Uncharted 3 beta used when it launched but eventually Naughty Dog tuned it down. I hope Insomniac does the same.

Till how long does the beta will last?

I'm still downloading the patch. :/

Playstation Plus under SCEA territories joins the beta on August 24th so presumably it will last until at least a week after that.

Does anyone think that Chimera's hud colour should be changed from cyan to yellow. I mean cyan isn't particularly chimeran colour while yellow is... Nit picking, I know.

I just got into a match that ended there was no one there. Now I'm in lobby and again it is empty. The matchmaking was perfcect for me earlier.

Great. Now I can't get out of the lobby. Every button except circle works.

I just had my first game and happened to be matched up with Violater.

It took a pretty long time for the game to find anyone, maybe it's just because there's not many people in right now. The IQ is really distracting, it looks like someone smeared vaseline on my screen. And I don't like the way FOV narrows when you run it makes the nauseating effect caused by the wobble even worse.

Aside from that it feels good and seems fun.

I regret the game's soft look, but it looks so, so much better than R2 and the carbine feels so nice.

Hm, strange, I don't get both of those points. To me it looks the same in lowres besides motion blur. It's the same old lighting as well. Carbine feels the same to me as well. I don't like it at all, I much prefer the bullseye. Carbine feels so...weak.

Lighting is much much better. I remember some level in R2 was bright with no clouds in sight. When you got inside a house it was all dark. Even with the windows open theere were no light.

Nah, it's not. It's just fine tuned. But it seems to be not dynamic at all. "Much better" would be UC3 or KZ3 standard to me.

Umm did you read the whole article?

Why? Did they drop the resolution even further by the end of the review?

I still consider Resistance FOM to be one of the best FPS game on the PS3 to this day. Unfortunately, its sequels have turned out to be more like prequels from a visual perspective. I appreciate all of the engine upgrades, but it looks like they've come at quite a cost to the resolution.

While the graphical improvements are obviously welcome, Insomniac's focus on the core gameplay has been to concentrate on the unique elements that made Resistance so good to play and improve on them significantly. The emphasis on many FPS titles of late seems reminiscent of the "gun porn" approach that evolved from its beginnings in Criterion's Black. Resistance's alternative notion is to concentrate on innovative weapon design - it feels fun to play, encouraging the player to experiment with new tactics and strategies. In this sense, it's quite odd how a new offering from a mature franchise can feel so fresh compared to so many of its contemporaries.
The engine upgrades work on many levels. While the destruction isn't on the same level as Battlefield, the set-pieces can be quite sensational and the impact of weaponry on the surroundings is particularly pleasing. It's clear that the range of visual upgrades have taken a toll on resolution, but Resistance 3 works well in that its environments are rich in detail, beautifully lit and - while it may not sound so much like a compliment - very visually consistent in terms of light and shadow, giving an excellent sense of immersion in the blasted game world. In this sense, the parallels with Metro 2033 are palpable. Insomniac has done such a good job in creating this desolate, post-invasion wasteland that there's actually an odd juxtaposition between the gruelling bleakness of the environments and the sheer amount of enjoyment you experience while traversing them.

So how is it much better when it's almost the same? Two weapon models, one is dark, one is bright. Nothing inbetween. Even the "borders" between dark and bright don't work correctly. Don't believe me? Test it. You can even "move" the border depending if you move slow or fast. I managed to stand in the shadow by a very fair margin and the bright weapon model was stil loaded. Looked totally off. Sorry Loudninja, I know you are a fan and that's great and I bet the campagin will be a lot of fun to play through. But the tech is just not good. If stuff like like UC3 is A+ then R3 is a C-.

However, the sub-HD resolution makes intricate sub-pixel detail stand out and look quite ugly in some cases, so anything along the lines of trees or chain fences suffers owing to the resolution drop.
However, the coverage seems to be blitzed by the post-process effects, so within minutes of the game starting you will be noticing some pretty blatant aliasing that is only emphasised by the upscaling.

You forgot to post the ugly.

And you forgot to post the good, so you're both at fault lol.

About the lighting, it's certainly better than R2, looks far less sterile, but there are still major problems. A large-budget FPS coming out published by one of the big guys should NOT have this much baked lighting in it. It's almost inexcusable this far in the console cycle.

Very grateful to JS for the code but my initial impressions are pretty negative. I am going to give the game some more time before I try to collect my thoughts and post here.

Just add your name to the list and you will most likely get in.

R2 looks flat to me. Everything looks ultra low detail and the texturing was poor. At least now I feel like I have things to look at. Nice colors, lots of stuff.

You're wasting your time, he is extremely bias to anything related to Sony so it's not surprising. As for the beta, it's decent so far. The graphics look like shit to me but still entertaining game so far.

Let's not do this.

I hope not. Games are leaning closer and closer to that these days (first person anyway). While it might not be realistically accurate, its really not fun to have to ADS every time you want to shoot someone, regardless of range.

I'll have to add my name to the list, since I cant find my R3 beta slip...

Some people say it isn't. It could have been lag, but I dropped around 10 shots into a guy's back with hipfire and he proceeds to turn around, ADS, and drop me real quick. I absolutely hate games that negate any use for hipfire.

I agree. Resistance 2 multiplayer environments looked so sterile. There was no life in them. And I think, in that respect, they have done some great work for R3. Despite the unfortunate amount of pre-baked lighting, it looks much more alive (the particle effects and motion blur probably help, too).
