Resistance 3 BOMBA (I am not Wario)

Full disclosure...I love the Resistance franchise. In fact, that's probably an understatement. Hope this doesn't get me Banned(lol).

Standard HYPERBOLE - This game has as much atmosphere as Bioshock did, if not more.

http://www.amazon.com/Resistance-3-...E67A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322683571&sr=8-1

R3 is super cheap on Amazon.com right now, $29.99. I know pretty much everyone falls into one of these categories:

1) Resistance needs to die off already
2) Game is generic
3) I already have MW3 and BF3

...but I really think you should give it a fair shake. I think this is a pretty reasonable impulse buy price, if only for the stellar (IMO) Single Player. It's fresh, mostly because you can carry tons of weapons (that all level up and gain new functionality, think Ratchet and Clank) and it has no regenerating health. You have to kill off enemies who carry health packs to survive (there are also packs littered around the environment at times).

The MP is good (not great, could use tweaks) but it's also worth checking out. If you were discouraged by the Beta, I really REALLY urge you to check out the Demo on the PS Store. All of the performance issues have pretty much been sorted out in MP, and the SP runs near flawlessly. If there was a good GAF community behind this, custom games would be AMAZING. Turning off some of the more "ridiculous" weapons really makes this game SHINE. MP is fast paced, but has that old school feel without high weapon damage (basically it's not CoD, you need to aim for a longer duration of time to kill enemies).

Also, I hear some of you talking "But Mr. Pliskin, it doesn't have the awesome Co-op from Resistance 2, and that's all I'm interested in!". Fear not! Unless James Stevenson himself comes out to say "no that's not right" you can bet your pretty pants that Co-op DLC is on the way! In an open session Q&A, Marcus Smith briefly hinted at Co-op DLC, this is the exact quote:

We haven't announced our next DLC plans, but we know how much people enjoy co-op, so... (keyboard angrily yanked by marketing department)

/shill

(PS: Not really a shill).

This game is great, easily the best game in the series. Remember after you beat it you can unlock cheats, makes successive play-throughs a lot of fun, I've beaten it 3 times.

This. Long BOMBA OP getting longer.

After you beat it, you can unlock cheats to turn off the hud completely, give enemies the ability to use secondary fire (grenade launchers, etc) and give them power weapons (so they are carrying a wide variety of weapons). Playing this way, on Super Human (very hard) is a really fun experience (because your weapon choice becomes extremely important).

SP was great and I was quite blown away after the mediocre R2, the MP seems to be pretty good after the last patch, haven't tried that yet.

I'm so deep into Skyrim that I can barely come up for air. And I just bought Uncharted 3 for $30 on BF. But I'll at least give R3 a rent to check out the SP.

And co-op DLC is coming? Hmm... that is tempting.

Best FPS you could buy for PS3 all year. Worth it alone for the campaign, which is my favourite since Half Life 2: Episode 2.

How is the Move support? I thought I read on GAF that it wasn't as good as in Killzone 3.

I fall into the generic category. I thought resistance 1 single player was poor rip off of half life 2. It even had enemy tripods. Is R3 single player much improved over R1?

SP was great, kinda falters at the end, but an overall superior experience than the turd that preceded it.

MP? Couldn't say. I haven't owned the game since late September, but it was a complete joke then, so hopefully the patches hold up on their end.

This was 27.99 on Black Friday lightning deal.

Is 29.99 the new bomba price? I thought it was 19.99?

Dead Island is also 29.99. Is there any reason to buy any game on release dates anymore?
Both games are part of Amazon's 19 days of deals sale going on right now.

Sorry I waited so long Insomniac.

For what it's worth, i'm STILL buying this on impulse and out of love as I'm tied to Arkham City and The Row right now

I just like 10 minutes ago got by Black Friday copy of Resistance 3 in the mail. I loved the multiplayer in R2, and also loved the multiplayer demo of R3, so I'm absolutely hyped to jump into this. I also had fun with the single player in R2 (I bought the first game after playing R2, but haven't gotten far into it), and am glad to hear R3's single player is supposed to be better.

I can't get into games like Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3—they're just way, way too hardcore for me, and they require far too much dedication and tactical planning. R2 has been some of my favorite FPS multiplayer this generation, so if R3 is just as good or better, that's all I could hope for.

If you have a PS3 and you like shooters you should probably definitely buy this game right now. One of my favorite campaigns this year. Also it's awesome with a Move.

Note: I did not play R1 or R2, newcomers can jump right in with no problems.

It was my first experience with Move/Sharpshooter and at release it was okay. Post-patch it feels fantastic.

Move is SUPREMELY satisfying for a game like Resistance. I think it really emphasizes the fantastic weapon variety the series is known for.

I totally support the OP and all the words of his OP.

Resistance 3 is amazing and has one of the best campaigns in an FPS to be seen in years.

I don't even remember a giant worm, this game is above average. I'd perfer an long bomba post about Alice, a true sleeper. Does R3 really need cheerleading, it got good reviews. If it isn't selling on par with expectations, it can join the club.

Wario64 is losing his bombastic touch. These sound like the words of a shill.

I did write my very first sentence to say I really love the game. It's not like I was hiding that, thus it's pretty impossible for me to be a shill, by definition.

I don't think it was a stellar campaign. Not by a long shot. It started to have hope at the end, but too little to late. Plus everything felt so sub hd it gave me a headache. I love resistance 1 as much as the next fan, but this one I do not approve.

I haven't played Alice yet, but I did buy it! Maybe I'll knock it out over winter break, and make a long journal post about how much people should love it and impulse buy, just like I have here, haha.

as dead as they get. You'll see people with the Nathan Hale skin from time to time in MP though!

The aiming movement in this game was completely fucked. It feels so off.

How so? I feels pretty much like every other shooter out there, I thought. It's a bit twitch, but you can slow the camera speed and turn off acceleration, lots of options to tweak for movement.

Do I need to play R1 and R2 to understand/get into this one? I want to play a shooter with an interesting story and this looks great but I don't have time for all three.

a bomba thread without a mocking tone is like a sony first party exclusive without a rabid defense force.

You don't have to play the first two, necessarily. The universe can be wrapped up pretty easily for "core story". Unless you really want to dig into the lore, there isn't much reason to play the first two. The characters are all introduced at the beginning, for the most part.

Well, R3 is a Sony Exclusive, and I am pretty much the R3 defense force, so we've got that covered :p

I fail at bomba threads =\ Though this will probably (definitely) be my last...unless I really dig Alice, or some other game that's good and deserves a bigger audience...in my eyes....

Where would be the best source for the lore? Is there a preferred site or wiki other than Wikipedia/Giantbomb? Thanks man.

Is it still bomba almost 3 months later though?

There is no statute of limitations on bombas.

There's a nice little recap at the beginning of the game. Also I think I used this site's summary to bring me up to speed although its not necessary to enjoy this game:

I can't understand why they keep making Resistance games. It's seems like no one likes them, no one buys them and they're the textbook definition of a generic sci-fi shooter in every single area.

Resistance 2 was literally the worst game I have ever played, so I'm not chomping at the bit to play R3, although I did think the graphics in the demo were pretty.
