Lock if old. I went back searching some of my old posts with Tinypic image links in them, and apparently a lot of links are being reused for newer uploads.

EXAMPLE: This was a thread for photos of our cats:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=18685067&postcount=10

A thread where I posted Charlie Sheen's mugshot was replaced with this:

16j2bkp.jpg

And a photo about a hanged Obama effigy replaced with some random pic of a little kid.

Should probably keep this in mind if questionable content starts showing up in old posts with tinypic links.

didn't think tinypic was allowed in the first place...

It was for like...forever, so if it isn't anymore I didn't know about it. I only knew about imageshack. Still this is important to note since it has the potential to take any old post ever containing a tinypic link and turn it into something bannable.

Tinypic doesn't even load for me anymore. Can always spot the forum pages that have tinypic pic posts because the page never finishes loading.

yeah, that's probably right...

Maybe I didn't word it well enough, but the issue here I'm more concerned with is making mods & admins aware of this. Anyone who hosted images with tinypic at any time in the past could have a thread necro'd and suddenly their posts could have pornography or other restricted material, and it would appear as if they had never edited the post themselves. Banned for using a (at the time) legitimate host which has now become like hotlinking.

That would suck. Pretty sure I'm okay, but good to raise it.

Send this thread/information to EviLore.

Were the overwritten pics ones that were uploaded without an account?

I have a tinypic account and my pics from years ago seem to still be good.

Yeah, I noticed this a while ago with a post of mine in an older thread. Thought it was some weird url anomaly. Guess not?

I'll shed a tear or two if I have to move all my gifs to another host.

I stopped using tinypic after all their captcha bullshit. Just use min.us now.

abload.de is the only image hosting I use these days. I don't speak a single word of German, either.

And the no access outside the US debacle. Yeah, min.us, imgur, or pixlr for all my hosting now,

I've always used imgur.... tiny pic never loaded right for me =/

Thank you.

I've been using Tinypic but have been too lazy to look for a simpler image hosting site. And Googling didn't help much, either.

They never own the picture and you never own the URL. Can't see how it would be against the law.
''...and we provide you with a simple URL (e.g. http://tinypic.com/1) that is guaranteed to be unique. It will point to your, and only your, video or image.
This is the ''about'' section, I'll try reading through the TOS, but it's still early in the day. False advertising if the TOS claims the same thing or does not warn people about what happened to the OP.

Edit:

I'm assuming that stuff like this covers their ass in these cases:

TinyPic reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to reject, refuse to post or remove any posting (including images or videos) by you, or to deny, restrict, suspend, or terminate your access to all or any part of the TinyPic Services at any time, for any or no reason, with or without prior notice or explanation, and without liability.

I love this part though:

That makes it the perfect site for linking to MySpace.com®, eBay®, Orkut scrapbooks, message boards, forums, blogs, journals, e-mail, IM, and other websites.
Yea, because it's fun to go back on your old MySpace page and see animal porn. If a newsoutlet decided to cover a story like that (of which there are, I'm sure, examples of) they would be fucked.

That doesn't actually seem to cover replacing your image url with another image. If that is what they have done, they are wankers.

Yeah, this isn't necessarily a new thing with the site either. I remember reading threads a long time ago that had their images replaced, and wondering what the heck anyone was talking about.

Back when imageshack was banned, if something you posted turned into a goldenfrog and the thread was bumped, you got insta-banned

Yes, I can break the links retroactively.

imgur replaces unvisited images after 6 months if they're not associated with an account iirc.

Simpsons visual charisma early pages used to be comedy due to all the replaced pics. Looks like tinypic ban has fixed that though.

Wait a sec,

The Sheen and the other images he is referring to dates back 2 years.

If imgur replaces after 6 months....
