Videos of conspiracy theories and false information about A-list celebrities and other public figures are a growing headache for YouTube. Many of such videos are from a group call QAnon, a fast-growing right-wing internet community. The problem is raising new concerns about the massive website’s ability to keep its community safe. NBC’s Jo Ling Kent reports for TODAY.

(More about it in the video)

Wait, what? Having one-sided media (driving people into the arms of so-called "alt media") and actively lying to viewers ("it's illegal to view these leaked Clinton emails") would result in people seeking out alternative explanations for what is going on?

Well according to Slate, Trump got most support from voters who were mostly offline so that puts the narrative that Trump won because of all the fake news/Russian bots into question. =)

I prefer to think of it as a succinct statement of reality. They have as much evidence behind both of them.

So far, the dossier and the Russian collusion conspiracy theory have caused more actual violence (e.g. the Scalise shooting) than Q-Anon or Pizzagate did.

Still not one indictment related to collusion - merely for lying to the FBI or for decade-old crimes related to the corrupt Podesta group, which is under investigation in New York.

Hey now, that Comet Pizza guy had a bullet travel through two or three walls and nail his computer hard drive, the same computer that allegedly had child pornography on it (i.e. allegations were publicly made prior to the computer getting blasted). Ya gotta give the conspiracy some credit.

I'm trying to rabble rouse because of the MSM bringing up the "muh safety" argument, and that argument is as hypocritical as it is absurb:

The problem is raising new concerns about the massive website’s ability to keep its community safe.
"muh safety!", "think of the children!"

Arguably, any news organization that is actively promoting the collusion angle is as culpable for the Scalise shooting as Q-Anon or Pizzagate were for the Comet Pizza incident (where no one got shot). This is applying their own logic to them, as after the Comet Pizza incident the MSM was trying to push that "Alex Jones will get people killed!"

Only one side of that duality has actually resulted in injuries.

Do you have access to any of the Mueller evidence? Why would you speak to stuff you know nothing about (other than what Fox News tells you)?

Comparing conspiracy theories to ongoing FBI investigations shows how incredibly stupid people on the right have gotten. You guys live in a bubble and want to be lied to.

Why should I care about a fringe corner of the internet?
Because QAnon is not limited to a fringe corner of the internet. In addition to its front-and-center presence at Mr. Trump’s rally, it has been promoted by celebrities including Roseanne Barr and Curt Schilling, the former baseball star who has a podcast for Breitbart.

The paranoid worldview has crossed over from the internet into the real world several times in recent months. On more than one occasion, people believed to be followers of QAnon have shown up — sometimes with weapons — in places that the character told them were somehow connected to anti-Trump conspiracies.

“The biggest danger is you are one mentally unstable person away from the next massive incident that defines whatever happens next,” Mr. Decker said. “The next Pizzagate, which for better or worse did define the political conversation for a while.”

In June, a man armed with a rifle and a handgun drove an armored vehicle to the Hoover Dam on what he said was a mission from QAnon: to demand that the government release the Justice Department’s report from its inspector general on the conduct of F.B.I. agents during the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.
The report had actually been released the day before, but Q’s followers believed there was a secret, second report that contained far more damning information about the F.B.I. There is no indication that such a report exists. The man was arrested after a standoff with the police.

Hmm seems like foreshadowing. Someone big must be about to have some skeletons dug up and they’re putting this out there now so it can be blamed on those darn alt-right trolls making up celebrity conspiracy theories again!!

Any bets on who is about to go down? De Niro has been awfully loud.

Yep, that guy was wrong. And?
So far the only person actually injured as a result of conspiracy theories was injured by someone who believes the "kompromat" conspiracy.

Kompromat: 1
Pizzagate: 0

All the while the same media promoting kompromat whined that "Pizzagate would get someone killed".

Hypocrisy, especially while that same media cries out for Info Wars and the like to be censored or investigated.

I just want to point out that the fact that we are comparing channels like CNN to infowars should probably make everyone upset with how far the media has fallen.

FFS look at this shit:

https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/25/politics/trump-putin-soccer-ball-chip-transmitter/index.html

This is absolutely ridiculous "reporting" on the level of "They're turning the frogs gay!"

How could I ever take this reporter seriously after reading this? It isn't even entertaining like Infowars can be.

These outlets respond to Trump calling them "Fake News" by putting out literal fake news with a misleading headline and the actual truth buried toward the end of the article.

The only suggestive thing about the story is that Putin "may" have put a chip in the ball. Everything else is real- trump reciving the ball, the chip technology existing, etc. The only speculation is whether the ball was hacked. And how was the headline misleading? It was right there! And it even said "may." To suggest this is on level with Infowars is ridiculous. Do you even read what you link?

That said, I agree, it is a dumb article. I was embarrassed enough seeing Trump suck off daddy Vladdy on stage to give two shits about the ball.

It's an RFID chip. You can't fucking write to it. You can't fucking spy with it. You hit the fucking thing with an EM burst and the antenna responds with the same one EVERY TIME.

The idea that it would be "hacked" is idiotic. The author of that article is almost too incompetent to breath, if she was serious. But she wasn't - it's propaganda designed to help foster that conspiracy in the feeble minded.

It's no different than, say, someone talking about Podesta losing a pizza-related napkin and then talking about the "code" nonsense from Pizzagate for paragraphs, then at the end of the article saying "Nah, those code things are made up lol he just lost a normal napkin". Same level of integrity.

And it mentions that about the chip technology in the article. People questioning whether a former kgb agent would bug something is not exactly surprising. So how is the article fake? You said this was literally fake news.

And sorry I don't get the last bit. I did not follow any of the pizzagate nonsense.

Putin's got a little more honor than Obama. He's not going to wiretap another world leader he claims to respect.

I hope the Queen checked out that iPod Obama gave her with his "Greatest Hits" on it - he might have bugged it. We know Obama does that sort of thing.

Shit, maybe that's why Russia bought those Facebook ads and hacked the DNC - Obama and Hillary bugged the "Reset" button. It just all falls into place. We know Obama does that sort of thing. I can't blame the Russians for being pissed!

Alt-right trolls and Russian bots. Would be hilarious if it wasn’t for so many idiots falling for it hook, line & sinker.

You can see it clearly on Reddit, ANYONE who doesn’t go with the group think is down voted to oblivion and ridiculed for being a Russian bot, amazing really.

If the Russians have that sophisticated of bot technology, they deserve to rule the world.

Of course, "Russian bot" has it's own special definition now:

russian bot, n.
1. Anyone the left disagrees with but can't argue against
2. Anyone who challenges any of the MIC structures the left used to hate but now fellate
3. DDDDRRRRUUUUMMMMPPPPPPPFFFFF!!!!

synonyms:
literal nazi, fascist, bigot, racist, alt-right

Obama was a former KGB agent for the Soviets with a strong resentment for America due to the fall of the Soviet Union?

And lol at Putin having any honor.

And based off your response, I assume you can accept that there was nothing fake about the article. You just didn't like it. I didn't either, but it doesn't make it "fake news"

Just throwing your logic back at you. Obama wiretapped Merkel, so why should I put it past him to bug the English Queen or the Russians?

It is fake because the article has a certain implication to it, designed to weave a narrative. It's not "news". It has no relevant information. "Two scoops" shit is not real news.

So, after more than 60 years of propaganda and fake news, after the media can create a narrative that fits them drop their last card: ITSACONSPIRACYITELLZYA!!

Only what Clinton News Network and its associated (fake) news newsfeed are reliable sources. Anything else is a nazi/russian/right wing/bigoted conspiracy.

Forget about the fact that it's CNN or Jim Acosta doing the speaking here -- because I know some of you will immediately dismiss this clip outright because of that. The Press should absolutely NOT be labelled as the "Enemy of the People" by the President of the United States. Period.

Conservatives in the thread: extremist right conspiracy sites are fine because liberals are even worse!

Jesus, what a race to the bottom of the barrel. Politics truly is fucked for the foreseeable future when people like yourselves rationalize the dispersing of blatant conspiratorial propaganda so long as it helps your "team."

Trump peddled racist Birther conspiracy theories for years to win racist white idiots to his side. Who could ever imagine him still making racist dog whistles to his rock solid white racist fan base? Though, I would agree, it is silly. Trump switches the number all the time since he has no idea what he's actually saying out of his noise hole.
