Risen 2: Dark Waters system requirements and Collector's Edition announced

playing the first right now and so far now notable bugs here
Wrapping Chapter 2 here, and noticed one "gamebreaking" bug. Had to escort a npc out of a jail cell to his hut, but would not budge.
Pondered on it for a moment, and decided to do it MMORPG style. Aggro'd the npc, kited him to his home, and used a joke scroll to reset aggro status. Quest complete.

Anyway, I hope PiranhaByte overhaul their art direction/scenario department. Gothic/Risen were fun to explore, but the environments and script were so drab. Dunno, maybe the dialogue may be more fun in German.

On par with STALKER 2, my most anticipated game.

Can't wait for more Piranha Bytes' goodness. Despise being few and on a low budget, when it comes to open world design they are simply unmatched.

yep and if you have a decent rig the game can look even better than in this PC pic... it looks gorgeous at times on my PC, especially the lighting is something else... sunsets in Harbor town are a sight to behold

From the demo I saw at gamescom aside from animations the graphics aren't actually that far off from Witcher 2 and they blow SKyrim away. It's going to be a beautiful game. Even 360 version looked great, not anywhere near PC version, but it still was pure pleasure to look at. I just hope they fix the framerate in it as it was like 15fpses

I take it you mean the 360 version there?

A new release I'm actually excited for! Loved Risen 1 and found it was almost perfect length wise.
Apparently Risen 2 is going to be bigger, which is totally fine.

I really hope this is going to be the "Gothic 2" of Risen franchise. Bigger, better, harder.
Maybe even on par with Night of the Raven (a manchild can dream).

Cool, myself and my partner pass with flying colours. She'll be extremely happy, whereas I still have to find time to plod through the first game.

The Collector's Edition sure looks nice, just a bit expensive for me.

Plus I feel this will be good on PC, Risen on 360 was really bad from what I saw. I would be there if I had a PC in order to run this at max settings but since it's not the case, I won't bite, at least this soon...shame since I wanted to.

The game was fine on the 360. Yes the graphics weren't as good but it never crashed for me, the loading times were fine and the game was damn fun. No complaints here.

Keep in mind that they started Xbox 360 development of Risen 1 only six weeks from when it launched. They planned it this time right from the beginning for the different platforms and there should be no jarring differences between the PC and consoles like how the UI on the 360 looked completely off-kilter.

Can't wait for this game!
And the inevitable DennisK4 screenshots.

Screenshots do not do this game justice. I saw it way back at E3 and it looked downright amazing, which is remarkable considering it was obviously a pre-alpha build. The very low system requirements just allows the game to scale a lot more for more people to enjoy it, but if you set this thing to max, I'm sure you'll be blown away. During the roundtable discussion, the man even said that the PC will have the best graphical performance because they want to optimize it for the different platforms rather than setting some common bar among all three.

Exploration is done either by boat (which you have a navigator/helmsman to handle it for you) or by foot, where you get to have a crewman with you to assist. There will be a lot of different environments and towns to visit in this regard.

Have not heard about the LE but it is a pretty safe bet that it will since they're looking to make Risen 2 a success.

As far as DRM for the first game is concerned, I know they said a couple of weeks ago they were removing the TAGES garbage from the Steam version, and you would be able to download a DRM-free version which should be going live real soon. By the way, you DO NOT need to have played the original to play this one because the story is a separate one.

If you have any other questions I will try my best to answer them through my experiences I had.
How is the combat compared to the first game? Similiar or entirely different?
Nice to hear that they are removing Tages from the first game. I was hesitant to buy it because of the DRM but I'm glad I did because I ended up loving it.

The combat looks very similar to the first, with third person over-the-shoulder style of play. However, they said the AI has been drastically improved upon and they will now use better implementation of battle tactics, such as flanking and ganging up to fight you. Check the roundtable and preview articles I posted for more info.

Risen is one of my favorite RPGs of late. It fell apart a bit at the end, but was still quite fun.

I'm looking forward to this one. I'm really glad they went Steamworks this time around.

It's a bit of a shame this is coming out right after The Witcher 2 on 360...might not fare so well there.

Walkthrough footage looks great. Wandering/exploring/quest solving looks like Gothic II, combat looks actually fun and engaging this time, I couldn't care less about the lesser production values in some elements like the animations, but the release is too far.

I am worried. I am not entirely sure they understand what made the first game so great.
Did you watch the walkthrough vid in the youtube link? It looked very Risen/Gothic-like to me. I didn't like they cut a lot of the wandering but that was a whole quest chain solved in adventure game-like fashion, talking to NPCs & following clues, rather than via combat or whatever. Much like many quests in the Risen towns. Did the GT videos I didn't watch show something worrying or are you referring to something else? I like the look of the combat too, almost like Gothic x Pirates!...

It's probably harder to show exploration in videos.
Well, exploration is in and it still feels great, mostly, but they ruled out things like swimming, climbing wherever makes sense (now you can climb just in a few "scripted spots"), etc.
So he has some right to be concerned about it.

Also, I really, really don't like the new combat system with the free camera, Fable-style.
Risen had a very simple but challenging and rewarding combat. Here they tried to make things more "dynamic and complex" but it actually feels a bit of a mess.

Didn't know they changed that. I'm pretty sure that you couldn't swim in Risen though.

Shame about the combat system. I actually liked it in Risen.

I'm talking about the art design itself. It has that whole Two Worlds II look going on - a bunch of different styles united under a cohesively bland overall look. Now, that's just me, but when I look at shots of the game, it looks so "been there, done that".

No, believe me, it really doesn't look anywhere near Two Worlds 2. Entirely different style, and a very coherent and cohesive one.
The game so far has its flaws, like "meh" animations and some annoying popup, but inconsistency in the art style isn't one.

Well, I can judge that for myself when I play it in April I guess. But its definitely the game I see the most visual similarities to. A little bit too generic.
