Bit of cleanup/catch-up. First, next week's official DLC:

Disturbed – “Another Way to Die”
Disturbed – “Asylum”
Disturbed – “The Animal”
Crash Kings – “Mountain Man”
The Veer Union – “Seasons”
We Are the Fallen – “Bury Me Alive”

Price: $1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points) per song
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per song
$5.49, £2.49 UK, €3.99 EU (440 Microsoft Points) for Disturbed Pack 03 and Universal Motown Republic Rock Pack 01

Second, these were the RBN songs that were supposed to go live Wednesday. Last I checked they're still not in the game storefront, though.

Bluefusion - (Random Song) || full version (80 MSP) || trial version
Boney Mean - The Ending is Death || full version (80 MSP) || trial version
Nerf Herder - Mr. Spock || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
Surfer Blood - Floating Vibes || full version (80 MSP) || trial version

And here's what you can expect from RBN today:

Amberian Dawn - Kokko - Eagle of Fire || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
Ashland Court - Hell's Sweet Hands || full version (80 MSP) || trial version
Evile - Devoid of Thought || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
The Fire Violets - Fence Jumper || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
The Get Up Kids - Your Pretty Pretty Things || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
iwrestledabearonce - You Ain't No Family || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
Moses Tucker - Damn Good Man || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
Mystic Syntax - Flesh Pull || full version (80 MSP) || trial version
Sunny Day Real Estate - Song About an Angel || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
Texas in July - Uncivilized || full version (160 MSP) || trial version

(Random Song) is our first ambient track (it's basically just a guitar solo). Apparently this IWaBO song has a horse whinny, which lip-syncs perfectly. That's unsettling. And this week of RBN is almost as big as the last two weeks combined, which is a nice trend to see.

Mountain Man is a great song that I've enjoyed hearing on the radio for the past few months. Worth a listen, at least.

Remember when Rock Band had good downloadable content?

I kind of feel the same but. At the same time I'm hoping they're saving the good stuff (more expensive songs to get) for around RB3 is out and they have a lot more hype for Rock Band in general going on.

It's like what, 10 weeks until RB3? I'm sure the killer stuff will star anew then. Personally not really complaining, I just bought 9 songs this week alone (stuff I missed and some RBN tracks).

And next week's PS3 RBN tracks:

Cate Sparks – Whatever Happened to You ($1.99)
Dappled Cities – The Price ($0.99)
Lemon Demon – The Ultimate Showdown (RBN Mix) ($1.99)
Rodrigo y Gabriela – Buster Voodoo ($1.99)
Scale the Summit – The Great Plains ($1.99)

And not to toot my own horn, but yea, RBN is gonna be the 'better' source for DLC until RB3 comes out, mostly because we have no idea when we're getting RB3 functionality so we don't really have as much reason to slow down.

Who is in charge of choosing the 5 RBN songs for PSN each week? They have recently developed horrible taste in music.

New Pornographers' "Crash Years" and Sunny Day Real Estate's "Seven" are both eligible for PSN, but they get picked over for other songs. [grumble]

Sunny Day Real Estate - Song About an Angel
YES!

YES!

I grumble every time I don't get something going to PS3. Highlord > Cate Sparks. Especially in sales. Hell, Fear Without Reason > Cate Sparks.

Anyway, it's getting kinda like the old days at the Creators Club... Minnesota Sex Junkies have another track in playtest, and Modern Skirts (and by extension Mickstafa) are back. And the Modern Skirts track is off the new unreleased album, so as a fan I'm all :D .

Question: I'm finally gonna pick up Lego Rock Band, it's under $20 which is a good deal for that many songs. Can I export the tracks through the in game menu like Rock Band 1, meaning I can buy a used copy or rent it, or do I have buy a new copy for a one use voucher like AC/DC Rock Band?

There's a voucher and the export costs $10.

You need to buy a new copy as it has a one time use code like AC/DC.

However you also need to buy a $10 export code online. The code that comes with the game just allows you to buy the $10 export code.

So you need to buy it new and then also pay another $10.

Shit, that makes it like 30 dollars. Not sure if worth.
I paid full price and thought it was worth it. There's a lot of fun stuff on the setlist if you aren't hung up on difficulty. Breakout, Final Countdown, Fire, Monster (secret best track in the game), Song 2, Summer of 69, the Queen tracks, Ghostbusters, Crocodile Rock.

Nice big update. First off, today's scheduled RBN releases:

Chaotrope - XIV || full version (80 MSP) || trial version
J.A.C.K. - I Cut Off My Arms || full version (80 MSP) || trial version
James Silva - I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT !!!1 || full version (80 MSP) || trial version
You Me and Iowa - Howling at Summer || full version (80 MSP) || trial version
Your Heart - Spring || full version (80 MSP) || trial version

Between XIV, Howling at Summer, and Z0MB1ES, it's a really big strumfest today.

Not a lot of songs, but a bit of news, as RBN2.0 has its first official details released. We are getting:

-- Pro support for drums and keys (not guitar or bass at this time)
-- Full harmonies
-- Practice section definition (instead of being forced into the 10% blocks)
-- A bunch of Audition mode and backend improvements that we've been demanding since day 1

RBN2.0 material should start to appear in spring, maybe late winter if we're lucky. A lot of this was 'known', but it wasn't confirmed until now. Definitely going to affect my recruitment plans in the immediate future.

I didn't see this news about RBN2 posted here yet:

RBN2 Details

Today we are announcing our plan for Rock Band Network 2.0. We'll have a cool name soon, but I want to get information out regarding features and dates well in advance of our implementation, in order to help you (the authoring community) plan the transition from RBN to RBN2. We've listened to your requests, and we will continue the user-generated revolution you began with improvements and updates to the entire RBN toolset. We want to keep the RBN toolset on par with our internal audio team, and continue to let you build top-quality content that exceeds the standards of our competition.

First, RBN2 will support the following new RB3 features:

- Pro Drums: although you can add MIDI information for cymbal gems to RBN1, RBN2 will add the ability to audition with cymbal gems as well as a few enhancements to streamline the audio submixes.

- Keys and Pro Keys: full support of our brand new keyboard peripheral will be available; both regular (5-lane) and Pro key authoring.

- Vocal Harmonies: three part harmonies. Sing!

- All of these features will be optionally supported by RBN2, and each song may implement as many or as few of them as the creators wish.

- Audition mode will be updated as well. The exact feature set is not final, however we are planning on supporting the following enhancements:

* Practice Sections: full support for named and placed practice sections, plus the ability to check them in Audition mode. Auto generated practice sections will still be an option.

* Rewind while you are auditioning a song. YES, WE HEARD YOU.

* Custom camera controls to allow you to view specific band members during audition mode (to check animations, lip sync, etc.)

* Dramatically improved auto-generation for the venue track.

There are a number of other enhancements that we want to add, and will prioritize after the list above, including skipping to song sections, feedback for audio mixing issues, fixing store audio preview bugs, improved Magma error reporting and MIDI validation, guide audio for vocals, and more. We are not committing to any of these and will complete them if we have resources available. But we will be asking the community for input on which items we should prioritize, because we want you guys to be as efficient and effective as possible.

You probably noticed that there is no support for Pro Guitar. We considered supporting this feature very carefully, but after much wrenching discussion decided that we cannot support Pro Guitar for RBN at this time. There are several reasons:

- Because of the way that Pro Guitar DLC is implemented in RB3, it would have been substantial work to add to the pipeline for both Harmonix and Microsoft.

- It is extremely time consuming to author, to the point that it might be just as time consuming to author a Pro Guitar part as it would be to author the rest of the track.

- Peer Reviewing any Pro Guitar songs would be problematic due to the fact that we will be building a brand new install base of Pro Guitar players at launch.

As I mentioned, this was not an easy decision, as we want RBN to be on parity with DLC as much as possible. We can certainly revisit this decision in 6-12 months, however, at least for now, we aren't supporting Pro Guitar.

Schedule

All these dates are subject to change, however here is our best guess at when each phase of the RBN 2.0 rollout will be available:

- RBN2 Docs and Reaper Templates released this fall prior to the RB3 ship date (October 26th).

- Magma 2.0 and RBN2 Audition mode (added to RB3 360 with a patch) will be released shortly after RB3 ships.

- A beta version of creators.rockband.com that handles RBN 2.0 songs will be available for song submissions in early 2011

- RBN2 content will start to appear in the RB3 store at the end of Q1 2011.

* Note that RB3 will support existing, and any newly created RBN1 content, from Day 1)

There are still some details to work out, the biggest of which is probably the transition plan from RBN1 to RBN2, and how we are handling the changeover. We'll be letting you know more concrete dates and our rollout plan as the date approaches.

I summarized it right above you. Figured the full release wasn't necessary, a lot of it (like rewind) is stuff that non-testers won't care about.

The James Silva song reminds me: what happend to the Splosion Man songs?

No idea. But they've always been sluggish going through. I guess Dan Teasdale going to the studio didn't really affect that.

Any word on whether RBN1 or 2 will make it to Australia? =/

In terms of downloading or authoring? Authoring will probably stay US-only for a while, but I expect downloading will expand with RB3. Part of it is that RB2 never "officially" came out in Australia and many other territories. It looks like they're being much more competent with the RB3 release.

So for the first time ever I know some of next week's official DLC before the announcement. :D It's gonna be a big deal, especially for me. (So no, it's not $band_youve_wanted.)

And no, I won't tell you.

I'll just take a guess...The Bee Gees?

This is more just a case of setting precedent rather than being a highly demanded group. I believe this'll be the first RBN 'graduate'. (Though, the circumstances are pretty wild in the first place so it's not like it's gonna be a common occurrence.)

Free 10 minute RBN Megamix coming next week.

I believe these are the songs that are in the mix.

Rose Of Jericho - Buried Cold
James William Roy - Paper Valentines
Glass Hammer - Sleep On
Robby Suave' - Everyone I Know Is An Alcoholic
Scratching The Itch - End Of This
You Shriek - No Heroes
Voodoo Pharmacology - Minnesota
Chrome Chroma - Bow Down
Freen In Green - Frontier Factory
Paul Henry Smith & The Fauxharmonic Orchestra - Night On Bald Mountain
Counterfeit Pennies - Five More Minutes
Single White Infidel - Inheritance

Better late than never, I suppose.

Dead By Wednesday - Pawns || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
Evile - Time No More || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
The Gracious Few - Honest Man || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
OWL - Violent Center || full version (80 MSP) || trial version
State of Shock - Money Honey || full version (160 MSP) || trial version
Warbringer - Living in a Whirlwind || full version (160 MSP) || trial version

Violent Center is interesting, it's in 9/4 time and definitely feels off-kilter.

Should have Burn Her Out by Shokkher up in the store tomorrow or Monday.

The official contents of the fourth Country pack:

Dierks Bentley—“What Was I Thinkin’”
Eric Church – “Hell on the Heart”
Jamey Johnson – “Women”
Josh Turner – “Would You Go With Me”
Keith Urban – “Days Go By”
Lady Antebellum – “Lookin’ For a Good Time”
Laura Bell Bundy – “Rebound”
Reba McEntire – “Fancy”
Sugarland – “It Happens”

And next week's PS3 RBN dripfeed:

Bang Camaro - "Bang Camaro"
Let's Get It - "Do Not Disturb (Tell Me How Bad)"
Five Finger Death Punch - "Hard To See"
Sunny Day Real Estate - "Seven"
Every Avenue - "Where Were You?"

As for That Other Thing, apparently there's been a failure to communicate, it should've been announced, Nord is getting it taken care of right now.

Some of those country songs are weird choices. I mean, there's recent stuff like Lady Antebellum, and then Reba's "Fancy"? What?

I don't listen to country, but my wife does so I'll end up getting this for her.

more country? really? wtf happened to this game :(

I'll never understand why people complain when a video game tries to reach out to a greater audience. You do realize the games aren't built specifically for you, right? Country music is a huge industry and many songs are great for Rock Band. I'm not a huge fan of the genre any more but some of the songs already released are fantastic to play.
