No worse than when people were lifting the free 30 day Live cards out of the opened GTA4 boxes.

Awesome. Too bad they doubled up Let There be Rock though. And do we need to buy ANOTHER export key?

You don't even get that privilege. You have to buy the game to export.

what I was saying is that GS will know about this and resell it anyway.

Indeed. I once thought that they had sold me a demo of Eternal Darkness by mistake for full price and wouldn't have given a shit. It turns out this was false (and don't reveal any spoilers if you know the reason why I made such a mistake), but that I was even able to think this without having to change any assumptions is indicative of how they have built their business model entirely around fucking over their customers.

Seriously. New games are usually removed from the cases (yay open stock for full price!) and they think that's it's perfectly fine to sell you a game without the original case or manual for the same price as a used game in pristine condition. Not to mention the whole nearly mandatory pre-order policy or selling used games for about $5 less than new much of the time.

Just don't buy it. I mean, really, for all the shit bands like Metallica and The Beatles get this is the most absurd thing I've heard of. AC/DC AREN'T EVEN GOOD.
Yeah they are.

We should have a debate. List your ten favorite bands asap.

Well of course, but I'd rather have the tracks as "DLC" so I can use them in standard RB2 as well. PR mentions the ability to export the disc using a key, but fails to mention whether you can use the "old" one or not.

One would assume that the key is in the case with the game, like with RB2.

<3 AC/DC but fuck, why live? The vocals on the songs from Donnington I've listened to are absolutely shitty.

I don't have favourite bands. I don't work like that, I find it too hard to rank. My most listened to on Zune is apparently Pavement, Weezer, Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, Rush, Presidents of the USA and Kanye fucking West. Not sure how he popped up. Mr. Bungle are up there, Primus lately, I love Arctic Monkeys and Pixies and/or Frank Black, and I'm trying to listen to Ween more.

All better than AC/DC. Even Kanye West.

Footnote: I hate the vocals more than anything.

You know, this strikes me as a kind of interesting way to handle larger scale releases (in terms of album size). I wonder if something like this would be done for, say, Quadrophenia, or The Wall, or Physical Graffitti.

That being said, if you stand Rock Band: ACDC next to Rock Band 2 and look at the price tags, it's pretty abundantly clear that the price imbalance is quite staggering.

This might be the only way to stroke the egos of some of the larger bands out there. I dont agree with the pricing, that is for sure, but as long as it allows you to export over to Rock Band 2 I am happy, that way they keep with the platform dynamic.

If full games for massive bands with export available becomes the norm, I would expect the likes of the Beatles or U2 to jump in then.

Rock Band AC/DC? Bah, Activision's Guitar Hero World Tour deal announced today can top that!

...they've teamed up with IGA for ingame ads on PS3.

In game ads harm nobody. Paying $40 for barely any tracks hurts the collective intelligence of the WORLD.

At least I don't have to defend HMX from being the scruffy underdog going against the BIG BAD EVIL ACTIVISION anymore. (I still hate Bobby Kotick, though).

The reporter going "that's called Rock Band, isn't it?" during his presentation is one of my favourite moments in games in the media.

"Err, no. It's called Guitar Hero World Tour!"

It was worse, "Well, we're calling it Guitar Hero World Tour".

Yeah, it really sucks for him that Too Human came out this year and all. Dyack's really going to steal a lot of thunder and hurt him in this year's Summer's Eve Douche of the Year Awards.

i'm loving Blood Sugar Sex Magik, one of my fave albums of all time. i hate the censoring though. here's lyrics to the most vulgar track on the record. it's pretty chopped up in the game.
Sir Psycho Sexy by Red Hot Chili Peppers

A long, long, long, long time ago
Before the wind, before the snow
Lived a man, lived a man I know
Lived a freak of nature named Sir Psycho

Sir Psycho Sexy that is me
Sometimes I find I need to scream

He's a freak of nature
But we love him so
He's a freak of nature
But we let him go

Deep inside the garden of Eden
Standing there with my hard on bleedin'
Theres a devil in my dick and some demons in my semen
Good God no that would be treason
Believe me Eve she gave good reason
Botty looking too good not to be squeezin'
Creamy beaver hotter than a fever
I'm a givin' 'cause she's the reciever
I won't and I don't hang up until I please her
Makin' her feel like an over achiever
I take it away for a minute just to tease her
Then I give it back a little bit deeper

Sir Psycho Sir Psycho yea he's the man that I met 1 time
Sir Psycho Sir Psycho yea he's the man that left me blind
Sir Psycho Sir Psycho yea he's the man he's the man he's
the man (chorus)

He's a freak of nature
But we love him so
He's a freak of nature
But we let him go

I got stopped by a lady cop
In my automobile
She said get out and spead your legs
And then she tried to cop a feel
That cop she was all dressed in blue
Was she pretty? Boy I'm tellin' you
She stuck my butt with her big black stick
I said "what's up?" now suck my dick
Like a ram getting ready to jam the lamb
She whimpered just a little when she felt my hand
On her crotch so very warm
I could feel her getting wet through her uniform
Proppin' her up on the black and white
Unzipped and slipped "ooo that's tight"
I swatted her like no swat team can
Turned a cherry pie right into jam

(chorus)

Hello young woman that I love
Pretty punk rock mamma that I'm thinking of
Hold me naked if you will
In your arms in your legs in your pussy I'd kill
To be with you, to kiss with you, I do miss you
I love you

Lay me down...
Descending waves of graceful pleasure
For your love there is no measure
Her curves they bend with subtle splendor

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the funk will make me freak
If I should die before I waked
Allow me Lord to rock out naked
Bored by the ordinary time to take a trip
Calling up a little girl with a bull whip
Lickety split go snap "snap"
Girl gettin' off all in my lap
The tallest tree the sweetest sap
Blowin' my ass right off the map
Ooo and it's nice out here
I think I'll stay for a while

And here's the way they come out in game:

wow that censoring makes me extremely unhappy. they need to offer M rated versions, or have an option in the uh, options menu.

dammit. now I have to sing those extra loud to make up for the absence in the game. gan

I'm pissed. I bought 3 singles off of BSSM, and none of them are downloading. It's stuck at 1% and not moving. Also, if I try to preview Under the Bridge in the music store, it boots me out to the main menu.

Don't know whether to blame Harmonix or Microsoft for this. Could be a compatibility problem with the updated Live. Doesn't seem to be affecting everyone, but it's not just me.

no it happened to me several times, keep trying. i went back into the dashboard, then back into the game and into the music store. took a while but it worked.

Indeed. I understand that they want the disc to be T rated, but why not allow M rated DLC (or we just learn to stop being so fucking uptight about our goddamned vocabulary people)? I guess they sell cards for all of the consoles at retail now, but ostensibly you'd need a credit card to buy it anyway. There has to be some sort of solution.

btw, shame on you for not downloading the entire album. every track is great. check out lovely man, apache rose, and breaking the girl.

Bah, they should be able to provide different rated DLC content. Have the game be T and then have a T rated version of BSSM and an M rated version of BSSM and a warning before purchasing.

Came here just to whine about this. Goes to 1% and stops. Guess I'll go back and try to download now (at least it says I bought the song so I know it isn't recharging me).

As I said above same prob for me, has not worked in the last two hours. Will retry tonight.

According to Harmonix, they'd have to change RB's and RB2's ratings to M if there were to be any M-rated DLC.

That's exactly right. DLC can't be given a rating any higher than the original disc. The BBFC in the UK are very specific about this, not sure about the US rating policies.

In the UK Rock Band is a 12 certificate and therefore all DLC has to be rated 12 certificate. To allow uncensored tracks it would have to be either a 15 or 18 certificate and this would likely have an effect on sales of the boxed product.

In my mind, it's odd because a 10 year old can go and buy the RHCP album on CD from a bricks and mortar retailer without any issue. But somehow when it comes to videogames (and the retarded ratings systems) listening to exactly the same content is suddenly unacceptable and his tiny mind might be corrupted by the funky grooves.

It makes no sense. Why do music ratings exist only in certain delivery mediums? It's either mature content or it's not surely?

Yeah. I'm holding off on this, this week.

That censorship is beyond a little. I'm surprised they cared to release it.

Would have made more sense to (if they could) replace it with Soul to Squeeze.

I'm in complete agreement with you. I think they initially intended it to be like the MPAA ratings. But those are enforced, whereas the ESRB and the "parental advisory" stuff on albums isn't strictly enforced. At this point, it's more of just a "guideline" and kids can still buy Halo and GTAIV and the like with little to no problems, with or without consent from an adult.

I wish. But they need to resolve this. Can parental controls set in the game handle a separate DLC rating or something? Or only block certain parts?

At least with the MPAA you can get 1 fuck in PG-13.

I'm pretty sure (at least on 360) that parental controls can limit the rating of the games that can be played on a certain account. However, per the ESRB, you can't release DLC that is rated "higher" than the game it's released for without retroactively going back and re-rating the game at the "higher" rating. Yes, a completely shitty thing to do, but that's the way it is.

Once again, they should have just gone with Californication. That Sir Psycho Sexy edit... wow

Ideally all ratings should merely be a guideline rather than something that's actually enforced. Even better would be to be rid of the ratings altogether and their often negative impact on their respective industries.

Anyone looking to get all sorts of pissed about the MPAA really ought to watch "This Film Is Not Yet Rated". I'd also suggest it to foreigners for proof of how fucked the US with even though we don't have any official governmental censorship. True, it's better that the government isn't the one doing it, but it's still pretty awful to know that it's something the private market will gladly fill.

Over an hour later and I am still unable to download the songs I bought. I fear this is a symptom of the new Xbox Experience. The maintenance probably took longer than expected, and they had to put Live up, but with less servers/bandwidth than usual. I hope this gets resolved and isn't permanent. If we have to wait through queues like this with all downloads, people are going to be pissed.

Posted already? SarcasticGamer (a site I enjoy every so often) did a review for the new guitar (other than comments I read through this thread, I haven't read many reviews, luckily, my cousin bought one so I got to play with it.. but in case you haven't.. here is a review of sorts. Instead of the copy and pasta the whole thing I know the proper etiquette is to quote random parts of the article.. so enjoy what I pick for you to read:

From http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2008/09/rock-band-2-wireless-guitar-review.html
I’m going to give you the low down and also attempt to compare it with the Guitar Hero III wireless guitar, as I feel that the GHIII guitar is it’s only real competitor for your hard earned cash.
The Comfort and Feel Dept
It actually feels really good and was way more comfortable to play than the GH III wireless guitar.
Winner: RB2
The Strum Bar
I think that the responsiveness, coupled with the fact that it’s much quieter than the GH III strum bar, gives it an edge overall. There are those purists that like the click that the GH III guitar makes when strumming, but I am not one of them.
Winner: RB2
Fret Buttons
The Rock Band 2 fret buttons, in comparison, are a big improvement over the squishy, unresponsive fret buttons from the original RB guitar, but they don’t quite live up to GH III’s perfection. First off, they apparently though that putting raised “Braille” like, small bumps on the yellow button would somehow aid a furious solo on expert. It doesn’t and it’s a design choice from the original guitar that I wish they would have left behind. On the other hand, the buttons are much easier to manipulate, although they don’t quite reach the level of the GH III fret buttons.
Winner: GHIII
Extras
The Rock Band 2 has a built in calibration sensor, a ridge around the start button to avoid inadvertent pausing while accessing the star power, an additional set of finger tapping buttons for solos and a switch that can change the guitar’s effects during the song. All work well.

The Guitar Hero III guitar has a removable face plate and has the ability to separate the neck from the main part of the guitar for easy storage or transport.
Winner: Both. Each guitar has its own set of extras that help it rise above the rest.
Even if you are contemplating one over the other, if you ever plan on playing in front or with real live people, get the RB 2 guitar because it looks kick ass when compared with the more “toyish” GH III guitar.
