I've always been a fan of this idea.

I hope Nariko makes it into the roster. Even though Heavenly Sword was bleh, the character had a fabulous design, and Sony owns the IP.

Very excited about this project. Any takers on it being a 1v1 or brawl style game that uses float mechanics.

Hardly anyone I play Smash Bros. with can tell me where Olimar, Ness, Captain Falcon, or even Samus is from, or have played their games. Please. People play the game because it's fun.
Yeah but they've all heard/seen them before. People who have never played Metroid before will have heard the name Samus before. The same with Captain Falcon (who people actually confuse with Falco...)

Anyway, people are forgetting Smash has also been used to make some characters/series more popular. IIRC, FE got releases outside of Japan because of Marth/Roy in Melee

- Kratos will make people who like Pit from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, happy to play with. Kratos’ primary attacks are his chains. He also has a charge attack with his spear and shield that’s powerful, yet rather unwieldly. Kratos has a Level 1 bar attack where he plunges his chain into the ground and sparks fly. Kratos’ Level 3 super is him turning into his giant, armored super-self and using his huge sword that’s a 1-hit kill. His recovery move are his wings.
oh God fill my veins with awesome

I genuinely have no idea who that is, without googling it

Sounds like Smash with a super bar, hopefully they nail the gameplay and it could be awesome.

Drake's level 3 super sounds kinda weird, I'd have to see it in action though. Parappa sounds amazing. Fat Princess could be hilarious too.

He's also in Modnation Racers, Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds, and LBP LOL
lol!

And:
- Parappa seems to have his original voice actor behind him. He yells out some of his popular phrases during battle. He kicks, has a boom box attack, and uses a skateboard as well. His Level 3 super involves him shouting, “I gotta believe” a few times which damages opponents to the point of dying. He also talks while re-spawning.
FFFFFFF YESSSS WHY ISN'T PARAPPA ON PSN

No, none of my friends had ever heard or seen of Ness, Olimar, Lucas, Wolf, Game & Watch, Ice Climbers, or R.O.B. before Smash Bros. And the ones that play with me all own the game themselves.

Anyway, if we can dig into obscure territory, I would love for Tomba to be a playable character. He's so different and has lots of potential with his different items and suits 8C

Btw, are Legend of Dragoon and Legend of Legaia owned by Sony?
Those would be great in a smash-esque game.
Legend of Dragoon is and I really hope at least something from that game makes it in.

EDIT: Beaten

Sackboy & PaRappa vs Blasto & Crash, hell yeah.

Lara, Snake, Crash and maybe Dante should definitely be licensed. Having a deal with SE alone would give them a lot.

And yeesh, give the "unlike Nintendo" thing a rest. SMB was considered silly as hell too at one point, and I couldn't name half the characters they have now days either.

that no one at Sony remembers.
There, far more accurate. Seriously, it's extremely silly to act like no one remembers the former when considering how often it's brought up (though there's no denying it's either loved or hated, with little in between).

Captain Falcon, or Falco? Neither of them are that obscure.
I don't know anybody in real life who played F-Zero or watched the cartoon before. The only reason they know of him is because of "FALCON PAWNCH" and Smash Bros.

I wrote an article on this very game a few years ago for a now defunct site called reelgamers.com :lol

Sony Smash Brothers: Make it Happen! by Brian Paterson on 6.16.08

http://reelgamers.com/images/smash1.jpg

They often say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, and it’s never been more evident than the current-gen era. Countless console shooters continue to follow the Halo model while dozens of MMO developers compete to create the next World of Warcraft, often times with sub-par results. Sometimes though, the stars will align and a title will improve on its predecessor. Gears of War took the Kill/Switch aiming system and ran with it while Splinter Cell managed to recreate the intense stealth action found in the Metal Gear Series. In saying this, there is one title in particular staring Sony right in the face that could mean an immediate pay-day: Super Smash Brothers.
It’s no secret, Sony followers would bend over backwards for a title that pays fan service to their favorite PS characters. Sony, who has been a main player in the home console world for the past fourteen years, has had their share of memorable characters appear on all three of their respective systems. If done correctly, a quality fighting title featuring all of the Playstation’s most memorable characters, from Kratos to Parappa, would undoubtedly be an immediate hit. Granted, many of the characters who gained notoriety on the Playstation platform are now owned by others companies and have since gone multiplatform, so it narrows down the list quite a bit. In the meantime, here is ReelGamers’ choice for the Sony Smash Brothers roster:
NOTE: All characters that appear on this list are owned by Sony. You will not see Solid Snake, Cloud Strife, Dante, etc.

That list isn't as bad as i thought it would be, beats a potential MS list at least.

Which characters would you like to see if this game would/could happen?

I didnt read the entire thread, but Im kind of surprised at the some of the reactions. Even if it ends up just being a copy of Smash, Id could still be fucking awesome.

As for the 'no memorable characters' thing, well I just dont agree.

I personally want Cole to zap the shit out of kratos.
