Wow, I have a couple of allies! This is a very hard thing to describe, and I wasn't trying to say that 60fps is worse than 30 in all cases, and I certainly wasn't advocating the 15fps parts in SotC. If anything, a stable framerate is more important than any 'average' frames per second. When framerates dip below an expected 60fps, it's much more noticeable than framerate dips below an expected 30fps.

Many games benefit a great deal from 60fps, but I disagree that 60fps is always better than 30. IMO, Shadow of the Colossus would look odd at 60fps for reasons similar to the ones quoted below:
I think there's a difference with games, though, in that they're an interactive medium. A higher framerate increases responsiveness (decreases input lag), which draws the player deeper into the game world.

To interpret Miyamoto's (translated) words in this context, it increases the resonance between the game player and the game world.

I doubt Ico will look good in HD unless they improve the textures. How does Ico look like in that PS2 emulator?

Great if it's true. Seeing ICO in HD would be awesome. What resolution did ICO run at? It wasn't 480i right? Either way it's still a pretty good looking game. :D

I need a better 'agreement/disagreement' detector...seriously :lol This is about the second time lately I've picked up a post incorrectly.

No worries man. I forgot that some do use that sarcastically, but I didn't mean it that way this time, so i can see why you would be confused about the post.

Freaks have got to stick together.

the PS2 was outputting 480i but the game was running at 320x240 or some other sub sd resolution

If it's true, I am gonna buy this SO hard. Here's hoping that it will have some extra content to accompany the 1080p visuals and rock-solid framerate.

512x224 with every other horizontal line blank and small black bars on top and bottom (8 pixels each). So progressive output, but only 224p.

What kind of games are SOTC and Ico? Zelda with a twist of RPG?

Mechanically they have the same skeleton frame of Zelda but each one uses different parts of it. Gameplay-wise if you put them both together they'd probably make up a Zelda game.

Ico is like one giant Zelda dungeon - you're trapped in a castle and you mostly solve puzzles and occasionally fight enemies. Colossus plays like a complete Zelda game minus the dungeons - just the overworld and the bosses.

Just talking about the mechanics and gameplay though doesn't do either game justice. Like someone said earlier, you play them for the atmosphere and artistry. They aren't video games that try to be fun first and foremost.

It would figure, I finally got a really nice copy of Ico for a reasonable price a few weeks ago. Well I hope they release this a reasonable price. I would happily double dip.

If this collection does come to fruition, they should include the original ICO demo that contained a different windmill puzzle layout than what showed up in the final game.

The best games ever just got better!
Hopefully this is true :)
They should update the textures and include all the stuff they couldnt include in the originals!

I wonder what sort of trophies they'd add to the games. SotC is pretty clearly ripe for plenty of them, between the basic story completion progress, two difficulty levels, two entirely different sets of time attacks and rewards, climbing up to the garden, and other general exploration of the world like attempting to cross back over the bridge.
I would really hope trophies in SotC would be relegated solely to side tasks, like collecting lizards, time trials, etc. For story progression, trophies would go a long way to ruining the ambiguity of player actions, and same goes for Ico really if you think about what happens in the end. In fact, I'd like the best for games like these if the trophy notifications could be disabled completely and just happen behind the scenes. Can you imagine, when you kill those colossi, a lot of people would probably stop and think, 'hey, I just killed this magnificent thing that was peacefully minding his own business until I stepped onto his turf, it kinda sucks that I did that, but I what else could I do, the love of my life is more import... SHINY TROPHY GOT, CONGRATULATIONS PLAYER 1 KILLED MONSTER 1.
Sucks.

I think the poster of those screens above is going to get banned, because NeoGAF doesn't allow the open and blatant posting of porn.

I would buy a PS3 for that.

I bought a $599 launch PS3 for another Team ICO game before I had any idea of what it would be. I had played ICO and SOTC, and I knew they would eventually make a PS3 game. That was all I really needed to know. An HD version of their first two games would just be an added bonus.

I'd love a proper ICO remake. Is it too much to ask for, I don't think the raise in resolution is going to be enough

Those emulated HD pics of ICO look fantastic.

I do not agree... Some shot look quite blurry (they kind of hurt my eyes... like somehow too much stuff is not well in focus) in the BG, lighting looks weird, and some textures do not retain a very good look.

This is not how the original looked on my ol' CRT TV :p.

ICO is very tough to emulate... it looks quite nasty on any LCD you put it on... unfortunately its aesthetics were too optimized around CRT TV's... its choice of half-resolution rendering (back and front buffers at 640x224) worked well on normally sized, interlaced CRT TV's... but not on modern LCD TV's.

This game needs something more than simple upscaling to look decent on modern TV's.

DON'T YOU FUCKING TOY WITH ME.
Honestly at this point you can pretty much be 95% sure that it's happening.
Sony has hinted at it multiple times, fans of have shown demand, it makes sense with The Last Guardian coming out and it would just be a great show of good will from Sony to its fans, critics and lovers of video games all around.

It won't sell well, Sony know this and they honestly don't care.
The have given Team ICO complete freedom to create whatever they want with The Last Guardian. Not because they are expecting great financial returns, but simply because Sony wants to back Team ICO for the sake of art and the progression of the video game medium.

More like The Last Guardian gains them valuable mindshare in the market, it's like NBC Universal's art film production house Focus Features --> Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind...

This is Sony's Focus Features for the gaming market.

Acording to a Sony guy, you will have good news very soon. Trust me, he never lies.

You'd better not be lying yourself.

As for the sales, they don't need to sell too much. The games are done already, and the porting process could be rather straightforward for experienced PS3 developers (such as GOW Collection's Blue Point, who hopefully are in charge of it). God of War 1 and 2 were ported, enhanced and got trophies added in a 15 weeks process, including testing.

Give it a 6 months or a (considerably) shorter development time by a rather small studio, factor in that they're already finished games, that no new tech needs to be developed... and barely any amount of sales will suffice. They would be promoting The Last Guardian too, including a demo or something else.

That said, GOW Collection has sold around 1 million by now, but they could distribute the ICO Collection on PSN too, which would be ideal.

I'd pay more if it didn't have trophies.
Fuck trophies in my Team ICO games.

At least make them all hidden and only pop up after the credits or something.

Their games have been progressively improving sales wise with each new entry in the trilogy. I wouldn't doubt a possible Team ICO collection doing decent numbers WW, as well as TLG.

They should do it like Heavy Rain.

They all look bad. Looks like some kind of motion blur, or like two layers. Almost like shots of a 3DTV.

Worth pointing out though that the PS2 emulator when working with HD rendering via GPU can't replicate the fog effect in Ico - a big miss.

I'm sure the games lose a lot of stuff when emulated. Can't wait to see footage of the actual ports.
