The press started to get the new Thief in their hands and while there's an embargo for the review, former IGN editor Jeremy Conrad tweeted:

Thief:

1080p/30 PS4
900p/30 XB1

It's still a rumor so wait for final confirmation.

At some point the fact that Xbox One versions of games will have lower resolutions than their PS4 counterpart will stop being news.

Sounds about right, and I think most expected this. Conrad seems legit mental, though. You would think Sony is paying him or MS killed his first born based on his tweets.

If Xbox games can achieve atleast 900P vs the 1080 on PS4, then that's not too bad. Its the 720 v 1080 that gets embarassing

This seems to happen in 60fps games only. I've come to expect 720p for 60fps games on XB1 now. Titanfall at 900p would be a huge milestone. LOL

Sounds about like what I was expecting, 900p will probably be the sweet spot for the XB1 this gen.

At some point people will stop posting this in every thread/thread whining. This was "news" throughout all of last gen. Also, not every game will handle the power difference in the same way. If you don't want to read it, don't enter the thread.

(I was hoping for 60 FPS.)

I'll be interested in seeing what multiplatform games are doing in a few years when they're pushing harder graphically and devs'll be tempted to drop below 1080p on PS4. Would the XBone ever receive sub-720p games, you think?

Yeah. It feels slightly more of the latter though. There's more of him riling up Xbox fans, than him actually praising Sony. It's mostly done in context of attacking MS.

I don't think that will be the case until these machines are at least a year old.

You're kidding, right? This will last from the first day of next-gen till the very last.

Throughout all of last-gen people compared the different versions to eachother, that will not stop just because one platform shits on the other one a lot of the time.

I agree with this. I just played the Last of Us DLC and that game looks amazing, but after spending a bunch of time with PS4 720p resolution kinda ruined things for me.

They said right around the announcement of the current gen versions that it would just be 30fps.

It came became less and less important news as time moved on. Mostly because we knew how these things would turn out. Same will happen this time around. The comparisons will always happen but it will no longer be a big to do because everyone knows.

I think it'll last until Microsoft rights the price/performance ratio of their console. It's quite a bit more expensive for hardware that isn't designed for 1080p.

I don't even think these news will cease to exit in a year; I think it'll take a bit longer.
It's just good to see devs not forcing parity...

For 30fps games. I really hope it is for 60fps games as well sometime soon. It will directly affect which console I get MP multiplats on as I have a bunch of XB1 friends and I also prefer the voice chat quality on XB1. 1080p vs 720p is too much to lose just for better quality voice chat and playing with my friends (sorry friends).

It won't because it didn't last gen. Just don't post in these kind of topics if it upsets you.

Smfh.

No good discussion comes of these topics, I expect comparison shots that are completely unrelated.

The xbone cannot run the same visual quality at 1080p that the PS4 can, it's really not news, most games will be 720p - 900p.

At some point peopke are going to stop being surprised by this.

Hopefully at some point every game doesn't need a thread like this.

I'm not surprised by this though at this point. This seems the norm and I've accepted it. I have an x1 currently and will probably get a ps4 down the road to play some of the exclusives.

Once the secret sauce is unlocked and parity is achieved. Until then, nope. You have PC comparisons in console threads all the time. The PS3/360 comparisons were made throughout the entire generation. It'll never stop being news and it shouldn't. Consumers deserve the best information and shouldn't settle on "well, you should know already".

Is there a list somewhere of the resolution/framerate differences between the PS3 and Xbox 360? I'd love to see how it was back then compared to now. Especially for earlier games from 2007-ish.

I disagree because you have to scale it up and that makes everything look worse.

I feel bad for the people that can only afford one new console and got the xbone. I have no problem if you have disposable income and can buy everything. The exclusives will make it worth while in the long run but if you are stuck with just one...oh my.

I know the 360 vs PS3 had some battles on head to heads where one had better detail than the other but was there ever this big gap in resolution?
