(rumor) Verizon launching carryover and throttled unlimited data options this week

As I mentioned above, at least one source of ours was able to confirm the changes to The Verizon Plan and said to expect them on Friday. We’ve also reached out to Verizon for a more official confirmation and will update this post if we hear back.

UPDATE: Verizon responded by saying that they are “going to have some fireworks next week” and to stay tuned.

In another reddit discussion, this guy sourced an internal document that suggests the throttled speed will be 128 kbps.

Why is everyone freaking out about the throttling? It's so if you go over your normal plan, you can still be connected to the internet at a reduced rate. So you're not hard cut off...it's a good thing?
 
How are you getting pay to throttle out of that safety mode? If you run out of data, instead of not being able to use anything but WiFi, you can keep using it until the next month or you add more gigs. Sure it's at 3g but it's better than nothing. It's basically data insurance for 5 bucks a month.

But that's something that should already be part of your monthly fee, not paying an extra, in fact,it is that way in most carriers, at least in Europe.

T-mobile is really making these guys react. I love it lmao. This is when i enjoy capitalism when there is healthy competition challenging the status quo.

That's how I see it... I would actually sign up for it because I often go over, and going to the next tier doesn't make financial sense.

Well, it IS free on some plans here, and only $5 with the other plans where it's not free. Like I said, I would sign up. It effectively gives you unlimited data for $5m...just slower on the back end.
 
Verizon is all I have access to, so I'm excited. Carryover will be good, and unlimited, throttled data for an extra $5 seems like a good deal.

Litterally nothing changed at all since I stopped working at Telus 2 years ago.

We once had a Canada unlimited 6 gig plan for 60$, and I was optimistic at how LTE was going to help lighten the broadband load. How silly of me!
 
Wow I'm spoiled, here in Finland I have unlimited 4G data, unlimited calls and texts for 25 euros a month.O_o Don't even have regular internet at home, just use a hotspot on my phone.
 
Carryover would be a godsend. I've definitely squeezed past my 12GB limit on occasion and it'd be nice to have a bit of a buffer for the heavy months.

That said, the idea of "limits" in general is stupid in regards to internet. Internet is limited at the capacity a provider can have at a given moment, not a bucket of data it can handle in the course of a month. It does make more sense to throttle heavy unlimited users than it is to just hard cap people's access.
 
I'm so glad I'm on T-mobile. With the music and video not counting against me I never reach my 3gigs. I have 20gb stashed and need to figure out a way to use it
 
Carryover and the Mexico plan is great for my paretns.I have XXL plan so it's all good. Currently at 30gigs a month between 5 cellphones so this is great news.
 
With Band 12 coming to SWFL before the end of the year, not sure this will get me to switch back. But glad that T-Mobile is putting a dent into Verizon.
 
I have 6 GB per month and I typically use 3 GB.

so I guess I'm going to build up a shitload of roll over data. My only use for it really would be if I could tether, but that's a separate charge if you have Verizon right?

They aren't subsidizing phones anymore (I don't think any carriers are?), so the only thing you're really missing out on is financing. Which is usually a much worse deal unless you just can't afford to buy your phones up-front.

And since they upped the price of grandfathered unlt'd data to $100/mo, I've been looking for a reason to switch. Hopefully this spurs T-Mobile to drop their prices a bit so I can justify switching.
 
Verizon's plans are so fucking dumb. I have the More Everything plan with 10 gigs ( the plans they had before the new 'Verizon Plan) and I probably wouldn't be able to take advantage of that rollover data unless I switch.

If I switched to the Verizon plan, i'd have to pay $20 more and get 4 gigs less. Fuck that.

I'm fairly certain they are still subsidizing phones at Verizon Wireless.

Yep. Verizon still has a two year contract option. They just dont lead with it.
 
I thought if you are a new customer you can't do a 2 year contract with Verizon? It's only for people that never switched to the new payment plan thing. Maybe I'm wrong though.

correct, keyword is new customer.

But those primarily concerned with this article would be existing customers. For a new customer, everything would be new, including this information.

existing customers can still do a 2 year contract

Actually the new plans include tethering without an extra fee. I use it.

Also my friend said it only means you rollover from 1 previous month ...it doesn't accumulate longer than that so the most you'd ever have is 12gb (correct me if I'm wrong).
 
Nice, this is perfect. I was gonna leave in September when my contract was up but I'll give this a serious look when Verizon announces it.
