Rumored Chinese Forum Xbox720 specs: 8CoreCPU,8GB,HD8800GPU,W8,640GBHDD

Stuff has always leaked even before the Internet. There are going to be megatons at E3 this year believe me. I know of 1 big thing that only a few people ere have even come close to guessing. E3 will be very fun.

Anticlimactic would be announcing it less than 24 hours before Sony announces their console at the same event. You get lost in all the noise.

Announcing before E3 get you out with the initial details and gets you the full attention of the media. Then, days/weeks later you show off more and release further details at E3.
I hope you're right about the megatons. But it's just worrisome, that maybe someone that has the same info as you, will spill the beans.

You have a point with the gradual tease strategy instead of full-blown reveal announcement, but MS could make it work. We're at a time where the market is starved for "new and shocking", where we've been regurgitating the same-old. An announcement at a small event is still much smaller than the big E3 week.

The Wii U was met with meager excitement and even now it's actually released and is kind of an after-thought (at the moment). Nintendo announced that and did the gradual tease strategy with the more "detailed" info at the next year's E3, and again, the console launch was met with meager excitement. It isn't the "new and shocking" that this starved consumer market is after at the moment.
The gradual tease strategy there met the common media with articles about a "new Wii" just as a gradual tease will get some initial buzz about a "new Xbox" but maybe forgotten after. Instead of a giant blast of a reveal all at once, with other announcements drawing attention to that one, and vice versa. It's the same industry, after all.

There needs to be some big things and I hope you're right with the mystery megatons, but I have faith a gigantic reveal for both alone will really re-light that wick for many becomingly apathetic consumer base and industry.

Minds will be blown by the software. Not some random numbers...
I was implying an early announcement which would more or less feature some kind of software or at least visual teases. They won't just come out and say "The Xbox Next is coming and it has 678897987987 TFlops and 32 GB RAM."

Why? I want no limit for multi-tabs in a browser. Porn tube.
Odds are that would be an "App" (browser, I very seriously doubt MS would allow a Porn Tube App lol) which should be given it's own memory footprint. I very seriously doubt MS would allow a browser with unlimited tabs to be run in the background while you're playing a game; while this would be possible it wouldn't make sense to waste so much memory when you have a fixed amount for a feature not everyone will use. Also when you combine that they're trying to push their tablet platform I just don't see that happening, at least not while in game.

That isn't saying that you won't be able to go to the dashboard in game but the functionality will probably be similar to what we have now. Launching (most) applications will probably have you exit the game, although it wouldn't surprise me at all to be able to bring a browser up on your screen that is running on a Windows Tablet (or possibly Windows Phone) while in game (sort of like a VNC)

I could be wrong here, I could be wrong in my previous posts about system ram usage but those opinions are not based exactly on what I WANT to see, but what realistically we will get. Remember, Microsoft is a large company and ironically Xbox is one of their more successful divisions, most likely they're going to use this platform to try to help out their less successful divisions (looking at you Windows Phone and Tablet) because remember, at the end of the day Microsoft has shareholders to answer to.

durango specs are this (most likely, almost certainly)

8 cores 1.6 ghz Jaguar CPU.
8 GB DDR3 RAM.
1+tf teraflop GPU with some sort of alleged unknown special customizations that may help it perform better than the raw teraflops indicate.
2-3GB of RAM likely reserved for the operating system.
ESRAM on the GPU (unknown amount).

the above is likely highly accurate and current summation. take it or leave it believe it or dont, it's real.
Well, considering what has been said in this thread, we can say that the RAm for the OS usage is bogus.

Right now 1 core, and 1.5 GB of ram are being reserved. A 1T GPU is gonna be weaksauce, and even without knowing what's in the final hardware, I know that Ps4 will murder that, no way is Sony targeting anything that isn't closer to 2T than 1T for the gpu.

Considering the Devkits are way more powerful than that, I have a hard time believing it.

Umm, no and no.

PS4 currently rumored at 1.8TF vs say something like 1.3 on Durango.

Then we have 8GB RAM vs probably 2-4GB, and differing types.

The differing CPU's.

And Durango GPU has custom hardware.

Far too early to say this or that. Even lherre recently said (about Durango and Orbis) "both are powerful".

And we certainly dont know the ram for OS usage is bogus (link?). You're just trading one rumor for another. I'll take mine any day, thanks.

Amen.

As much as I care about the specs, I care about the games more! The question on my mind is whether or not I will be blown away.

My current PC is pretty strong based upon a clocked MSi 7970 Lightning and I am used to playing my games at 1080p with high quality graphics. I hope I'm not disappointed when I finally get to see the durango up and running.

superDaE just tweeted:

someone asks, what that means and he answers:
What does the price have to do with anything?

He's he talking about the whole system final price? Who cares man. Is he talking about a certain piece of hardware that is sold at 300$?

...

Umm, no and no.

I'll take Karak's word over yours any day anytime. His source isn't cherry picking rumors from the internet.

Also I don't think Ps4 will ship with 2(lol) or even 4GB of ram. There were rumors back then, that when Crytek was talking about 8 GB it wasn't necessarily about Durango but Orbis, and considering that Sony too wants to take over the living room the PS4 will be a multimedia machine, and not something that is solely dedicated to gaming hence the ram amount not looking enough.

But hey, I'm speculating too of course!

you could have unlimited (or at least a large number) of tabs and not need a lot of memory - just once you approach your assigned memory limit for an app you can unload the pages of the oldest tab and just store the URL and reload it as needed.

There are no "current" rumors with any FLOP counts though. You're only going off of old rumor or posts by BGassassin, who has always made it clear that his info as early.

Just like how your memory predictions aren't based on current rumors. This thread indicates the PS4 saw a recent bump in memory, so if this is true, they are likely using the same DDR4 memory as MS for Durango.

ehh, some of you people just dont want to believe ps4 has less ram than durango.

i dont think that makes it true, though. the last good info i trust had ps4 at 2gb gddr5, with an upgrade to 4gb likely being considered.

the flop count info i have is very recent btw, from sources i trust a lot. thats for durango. orbis i'm going with the older 1.8 tf rumors because thats the best i have.

btw that thread also claims an A10 apu for ps4. i'm pretty sure you dont want that (it will be underpowered), so lets not pick and choose our rumors.

Edit: It also claims 8 or 16GB RAM lol. All rumors are not going to be true, in fact most are false. I'm going to say that story is false.

I thought that thread progressed to the APU + discrete GPU, which sony has a patent for. Its moved 100+ pages, you might wanna go a little deeper. As far as ram, the crytek guy hinted at quite a bit more than 2GB.

Progressed based on what? wishful thinking? The story linked says nothing about an APU+discrete.

It could happen, but I personally sure wouldn't bet on it. Be glad to bet you on it though :) Stevie P already owes me a 50 gift card cause he said XB3 was coming in 2012 and I said it wasnt.

Where is the crytek guy "hint"? Link?

Believe what you want, I dont care.

It's funny not that long ago I was going against literally seemed like everybody on GAF who swore Xbox 3 was coming in 2012. What do you know it didn't. Wishful thinking isnt reality.

I've been here most of the year and im definitely gonna say that the people who may have thought Xbox was gonna come in 2012 were in the minority. Doesn't particularly give you credence either.

But yeah as I said, that thread is alot bigger than the first couple of pages and nearly every rumor that comes gets bumped in there. I suggest you have a look. That crytek quote is another thread too.

You mind sharing amongst us wishful thinking peasants some of the "reality" you supposedly are getting fed?

Hardly anyone on GAF thought the 720 was coming in 2012.
Xbox 361 was supposed to come to tide us over till 2014 because what's coming this year can be supported by the PS3 but not by the Xbox360. So the Xbox361 was still on the burner in 4/2010 and after that maybe they decided to implement a Xbox 720 early and canceled it because 6 months to a year later the technology is there to cheaply implement the vision.

Sony has been horribly secret and we only know from job postings what's coming to support RVU and XTV that should start this March when ATSC 2.0 reaches Candidate Status.

Had a Comcast tech install some hardware for Neilson Rating and he was a little more knowledgeable and echoed what I heard about Verizon implementing. Head end DVR or tuner farm and then via Moca everything is IP served to smart TVs and set top boxes. This is the beginning that the DTCP/DLNA installed in the PS3 in 2010 is designed to support.

I agree, that's a pretty logical approach. I still don't see that being able to be ran during a game though. That's a waste of a finite resource.

vita and wiiU can do it, I'm sure the next Xbox can do it.

I'm not a fan of web browsers on home consoles particularly (vita is portable, WiiU has the tablet) but Xbox already has IE built in, so you have to assume they'll do it in the next one. Plus with kinect etc it might be fairly usable.

Still drinking Crazy Ken's Kool Aid huh? Must have stocked up on a lot of it in 2005. The 360 and ps3 are both pretty much the same in terms of power. One may be better than the other for different tasks but the bottom line is games seem to run the same for the most part on both systems.

Odds are, the new systems will also be about the same levels of power, although each system may take a different approach to getting that power.

Hardly anyone on GAF thought the 720 was coming in 2012.
There was actually a very vocal group that swore up and down that it would be revealed at CES 2012, then GDC, then E3. As software announcements continued to pour in for PS360 (especially Resident Evil 6 and Halo 4) there was insistence that MS was going to Twilight Princess Halo, release a Wii-style upgrade that was heavily dependent on Kinect, and rely on a few Kinect titles to launch with zero notable 3rd party core exclusives. Oh, and this was going to launch at $300, even though the $360 + Kinect was still retailing at $399 at the time. On top of that, MS was going to release a $99 360 lite with no hdd and no optical drive to serve that growing casual audience that wanted DD only games and no storage. Plus, more than 2 GB of RAM was a fanboy pipe dream because giant corporations would never, ever use off the shelf parts so why do you guys keep quoting cheap newegg prices?

And no, it wasn't just StevieP, though he was the most vocal.

I still remember his crazy prediction that Sony and MS would launch some PS3.5 and 360.5 systems that would be the same hardware but somehow still compatible with all the PS3 and 360 games.......or something along those crazy lines.

You're right though, his xbox 361 theory makes no sense. I also see the next gen systems being closer than even the PS3 and 360 in terms of the stregths for each system.

It is possible, just doesn't make sense if I were designing the system (working at Microsoft). Which obviously doesn't mean that it won't happen because I am obviously not designing the system haha

The more I do think about it though the more it starts to make sense, but there is just something about it that still doesn't click, Microsoft very well could do it but I think there is a business decision that will be made to not include it, possibly include the functionality later on?

Now that is pure speculation on my part and I have nothing to back that up, it would be a cool feature. Hopefully I am wrong :)

Clearly it's wrong. That's all I'm saying.

As for the specs of the 720, I have no idea, but I enjoy following these threads.

durango specs are this (most likely, almost certainly)

8 cores 1.6 ghz Jaguar CPU.
8 GB DDR3 RAM.
1+tf teraflop GPU with some sort of alleged unknown special customizations that may help it perform better than the raw teraflops indicate.
2-3GB of RAM likely reserved for the operating system.
ESRAM on the GPU (unknown amount).

the above is likely highly accurate and current summation. take it or leave it believe it or dont, it's real.
I hope you're wrong. It would be a system underpowered and already old before entering the market.
After 8 years, I expect at least 2/2,5 TFLOPS from the new xbox.

I think you're full of BS, quite honestly.

For those wondering how much ram the PS4K will have, it will be 8GB just like the XB3.

Consider:

The RAM amounts from PlayStation generation to generation have always increased by a factor of 16.

Exhibit A)
2x16=32

PSOne had 2MB RAM and PS2 had 32MB RAM

Exhibit B)
32x16=512

PS2 had 32MB RAM and PS3 has 512MB RAM

Exhibit C)
512x16=8192

PS3 has 512MB RAM so PS4K should have 8192 MB RAM (aka 8GB)

There ya go :p

Sure whatever you say stalker.

Uuuuuuhhh... you have no idea what you're talking about.

2gigs of game-dedicate RAM is already too much. Developers have been working with very little and doing quite a lot with it. 8gigs is just a stupid luxury that's just going to add to the cost towards the consumer for very little gain.

CPU and GPU will bottleneck the console way before RAM.
How is giving developers more to work with "a stupid luxury"?

Everything I've heard from reliable sources makes your series of guesses, particularly about total teraflops, impossible. Save for the DDR3 guess, which I'm worried might be true. Which would be incredibly stupid.

I think that rumored hard drive is too small. It seems like a nice size now, just like the 20GB one did at the start of the 360's life. However, I think with more games going digital (and bigger ones as well), this will likely not be enough for the system's life.

I like to install most of my games and I have a sizable arcade library as well. Of course, I'm sure they'll allow me to purchase an X-Box branded larger harddrive with a crazy markup in terms of price.

You can bet they'll sell you a nicely priced proprietary hard drive at a low low 300+ percent markup. I doubt what happened to the Vita will scare them off of that.

The expensive proprietary memory cards was only one of many factors that has led to the Vita being relatively unsuccessful so far. Sure, on GAF that was a major issue but I really don't see MS abandoning the proprietary hard drive market.
