Don’t forget, they are planning on spending 10B in PlayStation acquisitions this year.

Ballistic Moon is a new studio, made up of former Supermassive staff.

You are interested in collaborating with sound design and music to deliver outstanding soundscapes for major AAA projects alongside our partners at studios such as Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Guerrilla Games, Firesprite, Ballistic Moon, London Studios, Housemarque, Media Molecule, Insomniac Games, Sucker Punch Productions and more!

Talk about imagining things...That is a second party studio; It, apparently, has two projects underway, one of which is funded by Sony.

That’s a possibility and also why this is labeled as a rumour. However, Sony does and is working with a lot of 2nd party studios and putting this one, an unknown dev up, above all else is curious.

Size of acquisition might not require filing and most early stage deals are asset purchases.

All acquisitions are registered in the UK, which this studio is in.

I doubt they brought assets and not the studio considering the studios assets and their size.

Probably another Haven Studios situation if it happens. Details will come out about the project then PS sends out the "Welcoming to the PlayStation Studios family" tweets if they like what they're seeing.

Why not Supermassive instead? They always go with the smallest and cheapest stuff possible.

Supermassive were already purchased a while back.

nothing in that post really indicates that

it mentions working on external developers' games too

According to Ballistic Moon’s LinkedIn, it is currently developing a new game “with a world-leading publisher.” While the studio itself has yet to reveal who that publisher is, the motion capture actor’s resume lists the company as “Ballistic Moon & Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Ballistic Moon was founded in 2019 by industry veterans Neil McEwan, Chris Lamb, and Duncan Kershaw. Ewan previously worked on titles such as House of the Dead: Overkill and Syndicate; Lamb worked on Until Dawn and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood; and Kershaw worked on various game projects ranging from Heavy Rain and Sleeping Dogs to Disney Pixar Finding Nemo and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Most acqui-hires are asset purchases and employment contracts for the acquired teams. This helps acquirers avoid any liabilities. You wouldn't need to register that with Companies House (UK registry). But it's also possible this was a typo and they only have a publisher deal. We won't know until they do some PR.

Not impossible...but Sony tends to not always make a distinction between its owned studios and its close partners. Who knows, really?

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
well the good thing here is, at least we may have a chance of getting actual new IP from them.
