Russia begins Invasion of Ukraine

Mr. Community
Probably best to not blow up the containment vessel...meaning this thread...we've been pretty good at not getting into politics.

yeah yeah I hear you... i just thought i'd be useful for eurogaffers who don't frequent this thread anyways moving on!

In Glasgow every major airline has been low flying for the past five months. Few nights ago was looking out at the night sky and could see countless jets or planes flying above me in this new apparent restricted space, then I saw what I thought was a shooting star but probably light from some sort of training exercise. Anyone in UK seeing similar?

Regarding the power plant I think this has all been carefully planned out for months and no coincidence coming at the same China are encircling Taiwan. Pelosi knew it was only a matter of time and probably made no difference visiting or not, at least now can call them out and begin sanctions on them aswell.

I wouldn't be surprised if the americans are running logistics through the UK and on top of that they're apparently training ukrainian pilots on F16s so... skies are getting busy.

I feel sorry for her, but as an expat, the #1 rule of traveling abroad is "Do not end up in jail." Weed ain't legal in most countries.

This a thousand times. I have traveled abroad and try to understand the laws and such as they would apply to me. You can't air travel with weed domestically, what made her think she can do it internationally in a country where weed isn't legal. Lol especially like Russia, I would make sure my i's are dotted and t's are crossed.

What a fucking joke this guy turned out to be
Didn't even know he was in my country until checking, not that I care to follow his tour schedule. It turns out that few cared which he took offense to and implied some conspiracy.
In an interview with The Globe and Mail, the 78-year-old musician sounded quite upset about not getting the attention he believes he deserves. He claimed that Toronto’s news media outlets did not review his show and left him wondering why.

But Waters seemed particularly incensed when The Globe and Mail’s Brad Wheeler told him he was supposed to review The Weeknd’s concert instead of Waters’, until The Weeknd’s show was cancelled due to the Rogers outage that paralyzed the nation.

That Globe interview is hilarious.
[Waters]What’s interesting about you being here with me now is that none of the newspapers in Toronto sent anybody to review my shows. What I’d like to know, what I’d like you to ponder on, and maybe ask your readers, is if they have any theories as to why that may be?

I hate to get in the way of a good conspiracy theory, but your concert wasn’t the biggest in town that night. I was assigned to cover the Weeknd’s concert at Rogers Centre.
He's feeling his irrelevancy. People noticed him now, but not for his music.

If the ruzzians really wanted to irradiate Ukraine they have all the necessary means to make a nasty dirty bomb, it would be easier and more reliable (meaning, this is most likely an empty threat). But with the amount of psychopaths in the ruzzian "system" I'm far from sure that putting common sense on top of this has much value at all..

Anyway, blowing up a nuclear plant would be as close to a nuclear war against Europe as can be and a sure way to get Europe and NATO to send pretty much everything they have into Ukraine, including soldiers to waltze all over ruzzian corpses until Ukraine is free of the ruzzian stench.

Just watched Lex Fridman with Andrew Bustamante : CIA spy conversation. He has a very negative view of how this war is going to go, but to me he doesnt understand how Europeans view this war. He is talking like most of us are ready to just sell Ukraine so we can get our cheap gas and oil. He is talking how Europeans will freeze to death this winter if this war isnt over in few months. The way US intelligence thought Ukraine would fold in the first days makes me think their intelligence in this too is a bit flawed.

At least how i've seen and heard here in my country people are talking the opposite. I guess he is more talking trough US view. Here we are ready to cut ruZZia off wholly. There is no trust anymore with ruZZia and people would revolt if we would start to deal with Putin instant the war is over. That pretty much agreed with all of our political parties.

After corona nobody wants industry's to tank mate again. Money is more important then morals. Most europe see's ukraine already as russia to start with and don't want them in the EU. So if russia takes it not much people will care for it in europe. Business can return to normal and there we go again.

The biggest problem my friends see and i see it too is that russia stagnates and can't get ukraine to fall, there is a very very real chance putin will nuke them in order for them to give up and validates it as something america also did with vietnam. They will run that playbook and warn any other nation if they reteliate they will nuke them also.

This is why germany and many others wanted ukraine to fall over fast. Until they got called out and where afraid of economical boycotts which ended up supporting ukraine as result, however they are realistic and know russia will never fall, only ukraine will with time.

Even now, many of my friends just want this conflict to be over with for the winter as they will see a huge hit on there financials when gas prices are going through the roof + electricity prices. If that means ukraine falls so be it. People are selfish and that's just the reality.

You say most. Who/what countries see this?

Yea thats possible.

I see that as a possible end for it too. Question for that then will be how the west deals with it and the will determinate how ruZZia moves forward after that. Putin doesnt want to stop at Ukraine.

Ok this is interesting. I dont know anyone here who thinks so (other then wanting to conflict end) :S We see Ukraine as a sovereign nation which we want to be part of EU and Europe. Gas and electric prices will go up but we are ready to live with that.

Nobody is nuking anybody. FFS, stop with this nonsense fearmongering.

If Russia do badly enough, Putin will be ousted. If that happens the biggest issue with nuclear weapons would be if they found their way into terrorist hands in the fallout. But that didn't happen with the fall of the USSR, so there'd be hope there.

This is only the beginning. Winter is coming!
FBI just issued a search warrant at Trumps Mar-a-Lago resort. Considering he had Viktor Orban present at one of his rallys in Texas not long ago I think this should be considered great news and also relevant to this thread.
Not really relevant

Maybe not at the moment but with all the links between Trumps administration to Russia I think this will be considered very relevant down the line. The West has been under attack from Russia for far longer than the invasion of Ukraine this year, it’s only now people are realising or taking it seriously.
Still not relevant unless anything is found regarding links to Russia, and even then it's tangential at best. This thread is about the Russo-Ukraine war.

I'd stay off that topic here if I were you.

Amsterdam Netherlands. Nukes is specifically a big talking point because we live here in a major city that would obviously be a good high profile target if nukes fly into europe.
Look for other friends .. i am also from the Netherlands, fuck Putin . Freedom is earned not a given. Everyone has to do their part, I’ll keep paying high prices , and try to become less dependent from gas, shop for cheaper products, use less water. Until I am called for to go to arms if needed to protect my loved ones. My grandfather was my roll model a English ww2 veteran, so selfish bastards can also enjoy peace and freedom, that’s what is all wrong with this generation, they think everything comes easy.

1000s of miles from the front worrying about nukes to hit .. better make sure Russia is disabled enough so they can’t , economical or military intervention. Economically is what they are using now.

It's not just the death toll that's staggering, russia is pretty much throwing every single piece of gear in their stockpiles at this. Their collective military might is being trounced.

At this stage, anybody who thinks this isn't all being deliberately stage-managed by the west to bleed Putin as much as possible, really hasn't been paying attention.

Very much looking forward to the tipping point (y)

It certainly isn't the same Europe that I see. I mean, I haven't seen even a little speck (except trolls) of such an opinion neither in the news or among people. We haven't seen this kind of uniform support for a country in my society since..forever.. Maybe this is some kind of Netherland thingy? IDK, sounds weird.

I'm in the country next to you, 50km from Brussels which I'm sure Putin hates more than he hates Amsterdam, and nobody here thinks any of this. No fear for nukes, full support for Ukraine as a EU nation.

No legal weed tho, so that one I'll give you.

Looks like they are gearing up. And it's more likely ATACAMs. US did confirm shipment this week but who knows if that's just a statement and we're already sent.

Either way, if they do have the ability to hit targets 200km behind lines then Russia is toast. With rumors of the f16s and HARMs being mounted to Su-xx it looks like Ukraine will be able to decimate back lines and finally take out the bridges.

hmm im not convinced that its ATACMs. If Ukraine had those then they would have used them to target the bridge right outside Kherson to take it out for good (the explosive payload is greater than that of the standard HIMARS rockets, which have damaged the bridge but not enough to make it completely unusable and not easily repaired).

This is interesting:

Its being speculated that Ukraine's own Neptune anti-ship missiles were used. They have the capability to hit ground targets.

Nah, get the bullets and moving bits (e.g. planes, bombers). Bridge isn't going anywhere, and there is no guarantee hits would actually take it down. And if confirmed, the aforementioned targets will move - bridges can't.

Crimeia also has a single bridge connecting it to Russia.... So could be a later target as well.

I'm currently in Lower Silesia, Poland, and the view I'm getting is that a lot of the Polish people where I am really don't want Ukraine in the EU. Shockingly, I've also experienced a lot of xenophobia against Ukrainians. A lot of the people I've spoken to believe that Ukrainians are getting more support than native Poles. Now, I'm sure that isn't the case and is a typical far-right dog whistle, but I haven't spoken to a single soul who has said anything positive about Ukraine, or Russia for that matter either. I'm absolutely positive (or hoping) this isn't the main opinion in Poland, but it's what I've experienced.

They're also not pleased with the EU either, but after today's events who can blame them?

Poland is one of the more right wing parts of Europe though, so that's really not surprising.

Nearer the border with Ukraine there are simply people who relatives or friends who are Ukrainian, so naturally many are supportive there. And of course there's just general sympathy.

But the main reason Poland have reacted so hard to this is because they know that if Ukraine falls, not only would they have an even worse humanitarian and migration crisis on their hands, but also that they might be at risk, even in NATO.

We can't tell if these were fires that were started or explosions. The ones on video seem to be secondary, likely caused by ruptured fuel tanks (taking munitions with them by the sounds of it).
