Russia Urges Trump to Keep Campaign Pledge to Improve Relations

Hahahaha.

Russia called on U.S. President Donald Trump to live up to his pledge to improve relations, amid growing unease in Moscow about prospects for easing tensions with the new administration.

The White House’s call for Russia to return Crimea to Ukraine is at odds with Trump’s pre-election pledge to improve relations, Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the Russian lower house of parliament, told lawmakers Wednesday, the Interfax news service reported. They should wait for Trump’s “own words” on the subject and “everything will be fine” if he fulfills his election program, Volodin said.

Crimea is a part of Russia and its status won’t be discussed with the U.S., while news reports that Russian intelligence officers met with members of Trump’s election campaign “aren’t based on any facts,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on a conference call. Russian contacts that took place with Trump’s team were “normal diplomatic practice,” he said. Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service declined to comment on what it called “unsubstantiated speculation.”

Fallout from Monday’s resignation of U.S. National Security Adviser Michael Flynn for his contacts with the Russian ambassador in Washington is adding to fading optimism in Moscow that Trump will end years of confrontation over the Ukrainian conflict and the war in Syria. Trump said before his election that he may end U.S. sanctions imposed over Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea and support for separatists in eastern Ukraine. White House spokesman Sean Spicer said Tuesday that Trump “expects the Russian government to deescalate violence in the Ukraine and return Crimea.”

Military Tensions

Military tensions are also resurfacing for the first time since Trump’s election in November. Russia is meeting its commitments under the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, Peskov said, after the New York Times reported Wednesday that the Russian military has deployed a new cruise missile that U.S. officials say violates the pact.

The Defense Ministry in Moscow also on Wednesday rejected allegations that its jets came close to a U.S. warship in the Black Sea last week, saying in a statement that all its aircraft flew over neutral waters in accordance with international rules.

While Russia’s committed to “full restoration” of ties, “we see that pressure is continuing on Trump” from forces in the U.S. “who are trying to push anti-Russian stereotypes,” Valentina Matviyenko, speaker of Russia’s upper house of parliament and the country’s third most senior politician, told journalists on Wednesday, according to Interfax.

The Black Sea incident shows Russia is “not happy with U.S. activities there,” Ruslan Pukhov, director of Moscow-based CAST center for military studies, said by phone. “We are always very nervous when warships” are close to Russia and “such things don’t really depend on ties with Trump.”

Let's Improve Relations

Putin keeps calling Trump out while daring him to make a move. It puts him in an impossible position - play nice with Russia, proving you're their bitch, or take a stand against and risk the Kompromat coming out.

Hey guys, how about *not* provoking the US by doing a fly-by in the Baltic sea and putting a spy submarine in front of Delaware? How is Russia trying to "improve relations" with anyone? Military provocation is not the way to go, but I'm just a stupid Gayropa Westener pushing the russophobe Soros agenda.

This is what they call a "last ditch effort," in this case a last ditch effort to hang onto the Trump possibility...

before they move to Contingency Plan P.

It does feel like a warning. The possibility they have something on Trump seems more and more convincing.

With all eyes on Trump and his Russian connections all throughout the administration. He will have a tough time going soft on Russia. Either he doesn't commit to removing the sanctions and they release scandalous shit about Trump or he removes the sanctions and proves all the doubters right. I fucking love it.

YUP. The timing is really really stupid unless they know they've lost their asset and are starting to sow chaos.

If you wanted to Trump to actually follow through, you wouldn't make it harder for him by saying something this stupid

They were so happy about Trump... must suck for them, the chance of a lifetime wasted. Putin should have pushed Clinton, at least he can continue to play his game with her, she's someone you can analyze.

While Easy D's mind is so open that you realize that there's nothing inside. But sometimes an amateur can beat the pro by doing random stuff and well - Trump is the random President who is being briefed on Finding Dory instead of anything else.

Quoting from another thread. Wonder if this particular tweet has Russia a little antsy.

If he meant anything by it, he'd be out there railing against the ongoing territory grab in Ukraine. Trump's pretty much saying "OBAMA FUCKED UP AT BEING NICE TO RUSSIA, BUT I'LL DO BETTER!"

Should make things interesting. But not pee pee tape level of interesting.
That tape will never see the light of day unless a Russian official defects with it.

Wasn't it shown during the campaign that Trump didn't even know what Crimea was or something?

Him suddenly saying this, especially after all the sucking up to Putin, is a total lie meant to deflect belief in Trump being a slave to Russia.

Brazzers would probably pay a good retirement fee for it. But then again, you would have to carry a geiger counter with you for the rest of your life.

Pretty much this. I doubt Trump could find Crimea on a map.

It even get's better: Sacharova stated that pointing out that Crimea should return to Ukraine is an "attack on Russia's territorial integrity" and that "They will never cede with any land, like the Kurills, Karelia and Kaliningrad".

This is some master-level trolling ;)

He's regurgitating what he hears through the press. Yesterday mulitple senators used this an example of a result of the Obama administration not being willing enough to reset the relations between the US and Russia.

Hurting someones territorial integrity and crying about their own territorial integrity when they're urged to give it back. Beautiful.

Hopefully Trump is quickly removed. Proving he isn't subject to Russian control could encourage him to try and force a military conflict like I handful of us suggested last year.

I feel like this is a redacted statement and there was an asterix "or else we'll leak all our communications and the sex tapes"
