there is not a chance that shaun white cost less than a million even just including negative costs, and substantially more when you hash out the full budget.

I'm talking about development costs, for the Wii version, and I'm pretty sure of my sources :p

More on Konami :

Multiplatform muddles the cost separation though. Ie. if a Lego PSP port costs 100k, it doesn't mean that Lego PSP exclusive would still cost that little.

You do realize that those great guns are mostly MGS4, don't you?
This is what it looks like after subtracting 4.5 million units from the PS3 slice:
Code:
PS2 :    18% (38%)
DS :     15% (24%)
Wii :    14% ( 6%)
PS3 :    12% ( 9%)
PSP :    11% (14%)
Xbox360 : 7% ( 6%)
PC :      2% ( 3%)

This is probably undershooting it slightly as the 4.5 million are "Metal Gear", and not specifically MGS4.

Are fans of other industries so interested in the respective industry sales? Do fans of motor sport religously follow the sales of the race car companies? Fans of movies follow the studios earnings? I find these numbers interesting, I just don't know why?

I find the numbers interesting because they show how successful certain games and ideas are, so we can get an impression what will be continued to be made. On top pf that we can see whether the industry is growing , which could have a positive effect to its reception.

It's a nerd thing.

I don't mean this in a disparaging way. It's just that the relationship between people who play games and people who like numbers is more than a coincidence.

Better sales = better support. Wherever there is competition there will be people who follow them. Why do you need a reason to find something interesting?

Are you taking up any business/economics class? Do you have a bone for any particular console? Do you dream about Bill Gates? Search your soul and you will find the answer.

Oh and yo dawg!

I see three Xbox titles + there was ToV...yet "2" is listed under # of titles. They are both referring to sales over the past 9 mo. What gives?

People were wondering the same thing in this very thread a few months ago about another Bandai Namco report (check out page 4). I don't think we ever got a definitive explanation for these apparent inconsistencies. Seems like it could have something to do with the way they count localized titles though.

Not going to do a full thread again so I'll just leave it here:
SC4 already surpassed fiscal year expectations (2260k vs 2000k)
DBZ Burst Limit too (730k vs 500k)
Family Trainer (Active Life) too (550k vs 500k)
SRTZ too (510k vs 500k)
GvsG too (440k vs 400k)

Naruto 3 nearly did with a quarter left (530k vs 600k)

We Ski, Gundam Musou 2, Taiko 2 DS and DBZ BT3 did over 400k but weren't on the expectations top10 that closed at 400k.

Otoh, Afro Samurai, DB DS, Tales of Vesperia, Taiko Wii, Tales of Hearts and Naruto PS3 haven't made it to the top10 shipped that closes at 420k, so their performance remain unknown as of now (some haven't launched yet, like Afro Samurai).

The explanation for number of titles and such:
Kurosaki Ichigo said:
...they have some really weird way of calculating "# of titles". Its something like "# of titles after elimination of localized versions". Ditto for the sales, "Unit Sales after elimination of localized versions".
I wouldn't look too much into total platform sales because of that. edit: I mean in relation to the titles released, the total sales are okay, but its not from 46 titles, its from 91 so who knows how many per platform.

There is a slight problem with the PSP software totals number. The highest selling title on the plateform is at roughly 450'000. Even if the other titles have had topped the 400k bar, the addition of the sales doesn't reach 2'800'000.

Some bits of info coming from the Square-Enix financial report. They are revising sales targets down for the FY

The company's net sales were anticipated to be JPY 160 billion (USD 1.7 billion), but are now expected to come in 16 per cent lower at JPY 133 billion (USD 1.4) - down year-on-year when compared with last year's results of JPY 147.5 billion (USD 1.6 billion).

Similarly revised from growth to decline, operating income is now predicted to fall short by nearly 50 per cent at JPY 12 billion (USD 133 million), compared to JPY 21.5 billion (USD 238 million) for the previous fiscal year.

Net income has been revised down by 62.5 per cent, from JPY 12 billion (USD 133 million) to JPY 4.5 billion (USD 49.9 million). Recurring income is also expected to take a plunge from previous estimates by 50 per cent to JPY 10 billion (USD 111 million).

Yeah, I'd like to know how Rune Factory Frontier and MMV other current Wii games have done.

And can we have possible worldwide totals for Dawn of the New World and Vesperia?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
thx bbt, with those kinda sales SE will keep they maxority of their games on handhelds for sure. pretty depressing that there was no wii support, the 360 games sold ok i guess.

Marvelous Entertainment revised their forecasts for the end of the fiscal year a few days ago, and are now mostly expecting bad news :

[previous projection -> current projection]

Net sales :
12.5 billion yens -> 10.0 billion yens

Operating profit :
0.3 billion yens -> - 1.3 billion yens (loss)

Ordinary profit :
0.2 billion yens -> - 1.3 billion yens (loss)

Net profit :
0.1 billion yens -> - 1.3 billion yens (loss)

Dividend :
625 yens -> None

They blame these poor projected results on the global economic slump, especially in Europe and America but also in Japan, and on the subsequently sluggish videogame marketplace, which already led many big stores and smaller, specialist stores to close shops or to go bankrupt. Due to this, they say, the number of orders for their upcoming title, as well as for their major titles dramatically decreased following the end of last year.
They also strategically delayed a number of titles to the next period - beyond March of this year - in every territory (2 in Japan, 3 in Europe, 1 in America).
For reference, last year, more than 25% of Marvelous total game sales came from their overseas business, Europe taking the majority of the share. Given this, it's pretty easy to understand how deeply they'd be struck by the economic downturn in the West.

very late to discussion but I'm not sure how I feel about the forecast of ~2 Mil / Month for Nintendo Wii's

Its a considerable tall order, but feasible nonetheless.

Also, I'm still not entirely sure that comparing operating income to net income is the best way to go.

Not to mention changes for inflation, TVOM(Time Value of Money), and exactly what they used that money for. Looking at it, it looks like Nintendo made more money, but you aren't factoring everything they spend their marketing on(probably low for Sony compared to the other two), etc. It gives a jumping off point, but nothing substantial. Sure, MS definitely hasn't made money, but the 2 Bil Sony lost on PS3 isn't as substantial as the chart makes it look.

P.S. I'm not saying they didn't lose the money, just that they didn't lose as much as it looks like, if you are business, you get what I'm saying.

This Reuters article claims that Nintendo made about $5.3 billion in operating profit for FY09.

Is that official?

[edit]
If that is correct and I did my math right that's almost exactly the operating profit of Sony's gaming division made from 1996 to 2006 :lol

[edit2]
Nevermind, I can't read that is just their projected earnings. Ignore me.
