It just doesn't work, does it?

And yes, I'm using the Japanese Swap Magic.

The disc just stays spinnin'.

Oh man, I hated the swap method. It was evil. I always got worried about the unseen damage I was doing to my poor PSOne.

Do a google search for "The Swap Trick FAQ"
Planetnintendo should come up with a page devoted to what you are probably looking for.

I posted info and pics of how to do it to the slim pstwo here
scroll down and look for my post (ant1532)

sry pics arent very good, took em with mi razr.

Also the regular ps2 is easier since all you have to do is take off the front of the ps2 disc tray cover and then use the swap card(or if you loose it like me, use an old cut up credit card) Doing the swap magic to my slim pstwo i couldnt use the parts so i used tape in inside the system, cotton from a q-tip and some more tape :D

Even the slide card would be great (drive wear be damned), but Swap Magic doesn't stop spinning.

Do you have the newest Swap Magic?
Version 3.6, I believe, is the only one that works with the slimline.
You also need a SlimTool as there are three parts of the new PS2 that need to be fixed.

....no offence Tain, but did you look up any information on Swap Magic before you bought it?
You need a slide card or anything like it to use swap magic.... I mean what do you think should happen, swap magic spins, you eject and put it backup or import? get a credit card and cut it to shape as the slide card, so you cna use it and look for instructions of how to use i google

Does the swap magic disc allow you to play PS1 imports too?

nah

I have a controller plugged in.

I've used version 2.0 plenty on a friend's US PS2.

What do I think should happen? I think that I should boot the disc normally, Swap Magic stops spinning, I open my flip top cover or pull the tray out or whatever else that doesn't involve the PS2 knowing it has been opened, I swap discs, close, and hit X. I know you can't just eject it and pop in a new disc.

The problem is that Swap Magic does not stop spinning. It doesn't. This means that my PS2 cries in agony when I try to open a flip-top or use a slide card on the tray.

It also makes it very hard to actually swap discs.

The only thing I can think of is that the BIOS of this early PS2 is significantly different or something (different drive firmware, even?), or the Swap Magic disc would actually get the drive to stop spinning.
