No, I say it as a victim of sexual assault. I know what it is like to have someone with more power than you hold it over you that you cant do anything (he was an older relative). I know if I just said something about it, it would be taken as I just didnt know what I was saying. When there is more than one source it starts to become more damning.

Its also uncomfortablly telling how people leap to conclusions without evidence. You may have been one of the people burning others in Salem, or sentencing people to death from "hard evidence" in cases where later DNA evidence showed innocence but oops they are already dead.

And your metaphor is questionable because by comparing this to Salem, I feel like you're saying Andy is the victim here.

You dont just say things without something else to back it up, otherwise it has no meaning.

That's a horrible thing to say to victims, especially if their word is all they have. Having proof and building up a case will help, but it should NOT be a requirement for throwing out an accusation.

If someone came to me and told me that someone I knew was harassing them the first words out of my mouth will not be "well, do you have proof?"

I gotta disagree with people always knowing. I had a friend I hung out with all the time, he was hilarious and we were buds for 3 years, I seriously thought he was a great guy and even introduced him to a female friend but nothing ever came from it. I moved away and next thing I hear from him he raped a separate female friend, it felt gut wrenching and I was angry, but this was someone I knew for years and had no idea. After that, other female friends told me about all of the creeping things he did. Everyone says “you had to know” but people like this can really put on a good face. If no one came forward to you it’s easy to really not know until something major happens.

You said the people in this thread that were being vaguely pragmatic after reading the first accusation were the more level-headed (paraphrasing) posters. And that jumping the gun and witch hunts weren't good, basically saying we should wait for more information.

Now that more women have come out, most people feel comfortable condemning Andy. That's the tide I'm referring to.

What I'm asking is, if we just learned of one accusation today and slowly got more information about that ONE accusation, would the same thing have happened. I don't think so.

My complaint is just that ONE story never seems to be good enough. I didn't call for anything early when this thread started, but I wouldn't call those early posts too premature.
