If you have Spotpass on your Japanese New 3DS or New 3DS LL enabled you will get a special app through which you can get the following titles during those 2 periods for 40% OFF:

The sale isn't mentioned anywhere on the Nintendo-Homepage, the eShop or during the Japanese Direct and only accessible through the App. If for some reason you did not get the App, search for "51105102" in the eShop. This is probably the biggest sale Nintendo First-party stuff has ever seen.

Kid Icarus Uprising
Super Mario 3D Land
Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Animal Crossing
A-Train 3D
Phoenix Wright 1-3 Collection (<- includes English text)
Hatsune Miku Project Mirai 2
Little Battlers Experience - Danball Senki Wars
Chibi-Robo! Photo Finder
Dillon's Rolling Western
Azure Striker Gunvolt

Second Batch - January 29-February 11
Zelda - A Link between Worlds
Kirby Triple Deluxe
Mario Kart 7
Luigis Mansion 2
Sengoku Musou Chronicle 2nd
Super Robot Wars UX
Story of Seasons
Fantasy Life LINK!
Chibi-Robo! Photo Finder

Meanwhile in North America...

Still, that's a really awesome deal. Glad I imported a N3DS from Japan because you better believe I'll use that sale. :D

Forget not getting sales, how about lame discounts? I mean would it kill ninty to give us 75% discounts on their own games?

EDIT: Speaking of which unlike the Vita, I don't see much reason to having a JP 3DS personally, unless there are certain classics that are in JP eShop only?

Hopefully we get a batch of 1st-party discounts like this here, but honestly, I'm giddy as fuck just for the Wii games coming, especially Metroid Prime Trilogy for $10 ($11 in Canada), so my e-wallet is going to be busy this week, plus with the PSN sale also.

Cool for new owners, but unfortunately I already own all the games there that I would be interested in. Except for Harvest Moon I guess if it is good.

I actually do think that giving away their longseller for 75% would hurt their bottom-line quite a bit, people would hoard and then not buy anything new for quite some time since Nintendo games tend to have rather high replay-value.

Tempted to buy the Phoenix Wright Collection. That sale price works out to around $20 USD, that's $10 cheaper than the US.

I assume the digital copy has the English localization, just like the retail cartridge, right?

I don't have it, but it should be identical to retail. I don't think there is a single eShop-game that has something stripped compared to the retail-release. Rather do digital titles sometimes have extra-stuff compared to retail (e.g. Layton 5).

Oh yeah, you are right. It also has English subs I think.
I think I am getting Project Miku and AA Collection then.

Is it actually the original KI or Uprising?
Uprising.

Because the 3DS is region-locked, both physical games and eShop, people in other regions simply cannot play any of the JP-exclusive games without a JP 3DS, and yes, this includes digital-exclusive games and VC on the JP eShop.

Holy crap, I was JUST thinking about buying 3D Land for my *new* 3DS today, too. Awesome!

Yeesh, that second batch list is insane if the price on a lot of those are good to decent.

But there is a sale in the eShop right now

And also ALL the Atlus games have pretty good discounts right now.

But that japanese sale T_T

Outside of Galaxy 2, those are pretty bad. SM3DW was even cheaper in the Smash 3DS sale. Well maybe Pushmo is decent, but Pushmo World isn't a very good deal.

The fact that retail cost me $75.00 make it a good sale for me at least (Living outside the US and the games cost more than the normal 59.99 because taxes and whatnot) =P

Yeah, pretty much you cannot make multiple accounts like you could on Playstation and get all the different stores. Some people got around it by not creating a NNID, but yeah.

Mostly the appeal of a Japanese 3DS is because there is such a low chance games like DQ7 or DQ10 will get a western release.

It's very much a personal preference thing, but I have amassed a nice collection of Japan-only titles at this point. There's great stuff like the Sega 3D Classics compilation, a couple Taiko games, Jam With the Band, Puyo Tetris, etc. Tons of downloads too.

And PC Engine Virtual Console games!

Got animal crossing for my New LL, most of the other games I either have for my European 3DS or are usually cheaper to buy in Book Off or somewhere like that. I got a pre owned copy of Zelda in Sofmap for like 2600 yen the other day.

Edit: If I am a fan of transport tycoon will I like A-train? Or should I stick to open TT on PC/ Android?

Ah, we can only hope for such a sale to come to us all once the N3DS actually comes out in our countries.

I'm gonna keep my old 3DS for regionthree, what about you lot?

Looks like I won't get my New 3DS in time. :( There are like 4 games I would've gotten, too...

First batch is finished, second batch is live now.

Ultimately I ended up getting 5 games (Kid Icarus, Ocarina of Time, Animal Crossing, A Link between Worlds and Kirby Triple Deluxe). Great sale!

Not really interested in any of the 2nd batch (Japanese version at least). Maybe I'll pick up Dillon's Rolling Western.
