PC users that gave them their stardom by removing stuff the hardcore fanbase liked, like dedicated servers.

Aaaah, I get the joke now. I thought he meant certain employees or something.

PR Stunt, they will probably unveil the DLC tomorrow as an attempt to take some steam away from the BF2BC launch.

I don't buy it. It's not viral enough. And it freaks out the talent. No, I think they're genuinely worried that they haven't figured out who is on the side of the old IW management, and may take home parts of an upcoming project.

Sounds like Activision's cleaning house. What's sad is there's a part of me that can probably understand where Kotick is coming from; it probably costs more to keep Infinity Ward functioning as is than just send everyone packing and leave things to Treyarch.

If there are layoffs, it's because somebody thought they could produce at the same level with less staff. Sounds obvious, but that is why they'd be touched!

I don't know why people are surprised that Activision would be screwing over the people that made them successful. They're just following Infinity Ward's example.

Just as classy as IW was towards the PC crowd.
Dude, at the end of the day, they're just video games. We're talking about people's jobs here. Let's get real for a second.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

Wishing unemployment on hard working people because they didn't include a game feature you wanted?

Hmmm..

What if the dedicated servers thing was activision's fault and not IW's?, I don't know much about it though.

Hope everything is OK, I like MW2 a lot......

Seriously. Revenge on an entire team for the decisions of just one small aspect? I get the feeling people still imagine these studios as like four guys in a basement...

Most likely scenario:

1. IW demands Bungie-style restructuring.
2. Activision says go eff yourselves.
3. IW brass threatens to walk out.
4. Activision sends goon squad over to "protect" things.

*nod*

Only thing I would add is that the goon squad probably means that the IW brass have already been fired in response to their ask/demand/threat.

Really PC-GAF? Really? Even in your warped world where people deserve to get fired b/c they shunned you favorite platform, how about the 99% of the studio who had no say in the matter?

Nice sweeping generalization. Congrats.

And with the money they made throughout the years from Call of Duty, they will be able to open up a new office. Do I feel bad for the individuals who will lose their jobs and not find work for some time due to this (if its true) most definitely. For them I don't wish anything bad to happen. For the folks who are well off enough in IW who made the decision to gut the PC version I couldn't care less. There is a clear difference from the coder who goes job to job then the folks who rank in the $$$. Perhaps I should have made that clear in my original post. For that I do apologize.

Seriously, the self-righteous obligation people feel is owed to them for games outside of forums versus a people's real life livelihood is at risk is really weird in retrospect.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
yeah, kotick sent in his shock troops, because he's really evil.

What makes you so certain that was an IW decision?

At the beginning of the day, they're just video games too. But I still put the mustard on my hot dog long ways.

IF this is some sort of PR stunt against BFBC2, then to hell with Activision - I will order a copy of BFBC2 - a game I never intended on buying. In this economic climate, you do not make jokes about getting laid off.

IF this isn't a joke, and the team that made Activision all that money just a few months ago is being laid off, then to hell with Activision - and everyone that works under their label should be looking at other career options ASAP.

Something along these lines sounds likely.

A bunch of high up IW folks are leaving and Activision wants to make sure they don't take IP or employees with them.

Doesn't really make sense though. If they're high up folks at a company they'd have simply copied off any interesting data ahead of time. As well in the age of Linked In and Facebook it's not like you couldn't get a hold of a favourite employee after the fact anyway. :lol

I don't think anyone is "wishing unemployment" on these goons. We're just :lol ing at the irony of how their OG fanbase was tossed to the wayside and now their OG developers are having the same thing done. If you work for a snake, don't be shocked when that snake bites you too.

If it was Activision and IW didn't put up resistance then my point stands. If IW put up resistance then I take pack what I wrote.

This. I don't want anyone who cannot afford to be unemployed right now to be unemployed. I also don't want anyone who was simply doing his or her job to be unemployed. For the heads of IW who are wealthy enough to not worry about a day to day income and the ones who in the end accepted gutting the PC version, to them I couldn't care less if they get the boot.

'just video games'? Their job is making video games. If the product they make is unimportant, than so is their job. You can't separate one from the other.

Personally, I think video games are pretty valuable. The point of life is to enjoy it and games are one of many means of doing so.
