Security guards sent to Infinity Ward. West and Zampella fired for "insubordination"

Maybe a bunch of security guards got lost so they all decided to meet up at infinity ward offices to design a plan to find their way home? Security guards are timid fellows, they know not the fuss they have caused in the media.

Edit: Seriously though this could be anything, probably a warning from the top though.

How can I say this without sounding like an ass hole.... I hope IW gets fired. Because they deserve a better publisher in my opinion. And I don't think anyone wouldn't want to put money to invest in these people. After all they did create Modern Warfare, or one of the biggest selling games ever. They know exactly what average Joe wants when he starts up a shooter

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

I think Bobby learned from the declining sales of the re-re-rehased Guitar Hero franchise and decided to give IW the boot before Modern Warfare does the same thing.

IW doesn't deserve it, though. They deserve a new franchise to work on.

Well, his LinkedIn now says this (note how it says March 2010 as opposed to Present):

President/Game Director/CCO/CTO
Infinity Ward
Public Company; ATVI; Computer Games industry

January 2001 – March 2010 (9 years 3 months)

Also, said job title is in the "Past" category as opposed to "Current."
Link?

I don't think they would do that. They're gonna have to update the CoD engine sooner or later, and IW has more experience in that area.

Or until one of our illustrious journalists actually puts their money where their mouth is.

It's shitty, but going out in front on something like this could turn into more trouble than it's worth.

You don't have to blab everything, because the trouble you get in return isn't worth being a gadfly.

That said, from everything I heard, it has more to do with IW wanting sole control over CoD and Activision balked. There's a lot of big dick politics going on behind the scenes. Treyarch folks petitioning for more control over CoD.

Dude. You're a moron.

I'm not sure how this would work, but say IW does get let go. Who owns the rights to MW and all the assets and stuff? I assume IW right?

So how long before we put Ice-T on suicide watch?

IW is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Activision.

That's nice. What's with the teasing in this thread? Everyone and their 'source'. Thought that shit was bannable?

I hope IW reforms somewhere and makes a shooter set far in the future. I'd love that and I will buy anything they put out. I didn't get the Acti-Blizz-Endi hate before, but this is seriously a fucked up move. I hope they pay for it!

Infinity Ward is wholly owned by Activision.

If Activision "Lets them go" they aren't just a free company; they'll effectively be dissolved and all members will be laid off.

Good news everyone! Games will still be made regardless of any outcome. Only real issue might be the maintenance personal who suffer if they stop using the office space. So I hope they will be OK.

Exactly... the journos shouldn't leap in front of this without solid sources... and if part or all of IW is currently carrying their Nerf Blasters and coffee mugs out of the office in cardboard boxes under security escort they may not have had the time or presence of mind to have a heart to heart (or tweet to tweet) with Sam Kennedy.

"investigative" games journalism results in getting some hot scoop off the record from a friend on aim, giggling and tip toeing over the road to the neighbouring bay area game journo office and sneaking into their bathroom to share a mutual hand job with your journo buddies while you whisper trade secrets into each others ears, then giggle off to twitter to make some vague allusions.

I think in situations like this is best to let the people directly involved deal with how to make the news public. Don't want to put peoples reputations and such on the line.

WTF is going on here?

Can someone summarize?
CCO/CTO of Infinity Ward, Jason West, has been laid off. Security Guards outside their office. More coming. Welcome to the 24 hour news cycle.

To be fair, this fiasco does not seem to be about layoffs due to overuse of resources. It seems to be more about disagreements between studio heads and publishers. Not to mention that MW2 had a HUGE budget and the idea that they didn't have the resources in said huge budget to implement features that were already in the code (and still in the code) of the old game they were building on is laughable. I do agree with you that they didn't have "clearance" from the higher ups for a better PC version, but I do not agree it was due to a lack of resources.

And FYI, I did need 6 smilies cause I LOLed at least 6 times---10 to be specific but that's just overkill to type and my carpal tunnel is acting up :D
I was more suggesting with that first post that somewhere up in the higher management, resources for the PC version could have been mandated to be small. And I could be wrong, but it wouldn't shock me. That's all, along with people saying that they deserve to lose their jobs over is dumb.

3 smilies will suffice even for the biggest LOL.

Out of morbid interest, who was the guy at IW who kept talking crap on the people at Treyarch?

I have a feeling the major players could reform as a brand new company fairly easily.

I assume it'll be like when Ensemble was destroyed by Microsoft. The people will go out and form their own studio.

And hell, with CoD on your resume, you can write your own ticket.

Something's going on over at IW. Hard to say if it's good or bad.

:lol

Is it really that hard to say if it's good or bad? In exactly what sort of situation would having security and bouncers show up be good? Maybe Activision is turning Infinity Ward into the hottest new night club in town?

Reports came in that security guards showed up unannounced at IW's offices and that the management staff was missing.

Four pages of "What if the studio's closing down?! What if it's terrorist threats!?"

Then some additional (and equally unverified) hints that Activision may well be closing shop.

In closing: We know nothing, but unverified and easily faked internet rumors say Activision is at the very least restructing IW by force.

Thanks for the summary, guys.

That's pretty low of Activision to fire the FUCKING CCO and bring security guards (if true).

Divide and conquer?

EDIT: Meaning an ultimatum, right now: follow your boss into the 'maybe' or stick with Activision and a secure job. I really hope for the employees sake they're given a shot at keeping their jobs.

Activision owns 100% of IW and all of the IP. IW, therefore, cannot leave Activision unless they structure it. A power struggle likely ensued and the top brass at IW might have been let go or they walked.

If they are let go, they're most likely being given golden parachutes and signing a no-compete + no solicit former colleagues for at least 1year.
For anyone else not at the top of the food chain that is kept, they'd probably get offered a bonus and need to sign a no-compete+contract to lock them down (prevent them from not quitting or going off to work on battlefield, etc )
