According to this April 2009 interview with Hiroshi Kawaguchi and Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, lyrics were used during a SEGA welcome company banquet to celebrate new hires.

Here's my rough direct translation. My Japanese is not good at all. I think difficulty in translating line by line is that sentence construction is backwards in Japanese where direct objects are placed in between (implied) subjects and verbs.

Yeah, I noticed after I posted it that some of it is at the end of your video. I'm still pretty sure the one I posted is the one I saw a while ago. I think I saw it right before or right after I got a Japanese Saturn and a copy of Space Harrier. I think I was mainly looking at differences between all the home versions, mainly the 32x and Saturn versions.

Did you find any differences?

The only difference I could tell was that the music was slightly better on the Saturn from the videos I saw, but I'm not sure if it could be differences in setup or something. The percussion mainly sounded better on the Saturn.

SEGA has been using it internally for years! And it's sung by Mr. Blue Skies. Can't get more official in my mind.
