Senate won't vote on House Trumpcare bill, will instead draft a whole new bill

Senate Republicans said Thursday they won't vote on the House-passed bill to repeal and replace Obamacare, but will write their own legislation instead.

A Senate proposal is now being developed by a 12-member working group. It will attempt to incorporate elements of the House bill, senators said, but will not take up the House bill as a starting point and change it through the amendment process.

"The safest thing to say is there will be a Senate bill, but it will look at what the House has done and see how much of that we can incorporate in a product that works for us in reconciliation," said Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo.

So this pretty much bound to be not nearly as evil as the House bill, thereby making it totally unpalatable for them once again, correct?

Yep, and then it has to go back the house, in which cause they will reject it because it will be to moderate and the song and dance will continue.

Fuck Roy Blunt. Dude is a real pos and only represents his own pockets being lined with money. Yet still idiots I live around will vote for him.

That being said, at least he isn't just trying to pass the house bill. This makes it more difficult for the bill to be passed.

So the new Senate-drawn bill will just be a heavily chopped down version of the evil kindergartener's crayon drawing that passed House.

Let's remember that this is what Republican establishment actually looks like.

Because that word disappeared after the election, but people need to be reminded that the GOP now is the establishment, the whole of it, on every level. And then can't even get basic shit done. GG voters.

(not that anyone actually wants them to even try to repeal or replace the ACA, but that's another thing. They ran that tune for eight years, now it should become their funeral theme)

So this won't be reconciliation which only requires 51 votes?

I'm sure it will still be. They can still call it the same bill but gut everything in it. Budget bills always originate from the house so they just needed to give them a soon to be empty vessel

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
So even when they "win", they still lose.

Work to make everyone energized to vote these House clowns OUT.

So.... nothing a value was gained by the GOP except linking them to a toxic bill which will be used as ammunition against them in the midterms, triggering a blue wave.

Smart.

At least Trump got his ***victory*** part, lol.

Remember when democrats spent months crafting the healthcare bill and republicans/the media were upset at how they were rushing the bill and trying to ram it through congress? Interesting how everyone is fucking silent over a shitty bill that's takes, what, a couple weeks to craft and passed through congress.

Republicans in the House: "Look, we passed a bill! Your turn Senate!"

Republicans in the Senate: "Nah, we'll make our own."

So basically on the same day Trump and house republicans are celebrating, the Senate officially said, nope, we're not using that bill. We'll do our own thing. Suck it.

Can someone explain the politicking to me, why the fuck would the house go on record to vote for an unpopular piece of shit, pass it, and then let the senate trash it, allowing the Democrats to run ez attack ads next year? I feel like I'm missing something.

But doomsayers told me the senate would simply rubber stamp it!

This thing is going to be ripped apart. The HFC is on record saying they will not support a bill that returns to the House with significant changes. They aren't bluffing.

They're designing it to get through with a 51-vote threshold.

They're not taking the L, they're building something that will clear both chambers, now that the House is done with their fantasy version. That should scare the hell out of everyone, not cause a celebration of L's.

What a gigantic waste of time.

Well, anything even remotely less terrible than the one passed today will be praised as more "moderate", and make it easier for shaky Repubs to vote for.

So you could say a very, very, very low bar has been set today.

Trump wanted his win.

Masterstroke plan to delay the shit out of a huge campaign promise till they can think of something that won't cost them every seat in the country.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I love this. Let them fight baby. Senate passes theirs, it goes to house, they say nah fuck that, and then each fights trying to get the other to consider theirs.

Well, at the very least, we have it on record who accepted the abysmal one this afternoon. Those Reps will forever be marked for this. You have to at least take the small victories.

But yeah. I'm not feeling a new bill in the slightest. We need a better Healthcare system, but we absolutely are not getting a good one when Republicans have a modicum of power. When they have the majority, we can't risk losing what we already have.

It should be more sane though than the House version. They were always going to pass some form of a repeal, the best we can hope for is some gel before we get fucked.

What. Is. This. System.
It's not that complicated on the surface. Anything that is to become law must be approved by both chambers.

So if the Senate just makes a new bill, it then goes to the House. If approved, it'll go to the presidents desk to become law.

This isn't over. Senate will look to try to pass a bill with simple majority. The House then will actually have the ability to actually make something law.

Plan all along. This shit is going nowhere, but sending it to the senate allows them to say the Dems obstructed and keep it pushing

The U.S. and the lives of its citizens are being held together by the country's dysfunction now. The hope that the Republicans are so terrible and incompetent that they can't get anything substantial done.

Even an incompetent person can bumble through things once in a while though. I wish the best for those depending on their healthcare. I also hope Republican voters realize their mistake.
