Year over year software sales revenue:

In a note to investors, analyst firm Wedbush Morgan revealed that sales of Nintendo's Wii were down 45 per cent year-on-year with 254,000 units sold, while Sony shifted 312,000 PlayStation 3 units, down 37 per cent.

It also added that Xbox 360 software sales were up 33 per cent to $85 million off the back of Halo: Reach, while Wii software sales fell 38 per cent to $55 million and PlayStation 3 sales dropped 14 per cent to $17 million. DS games sales were down 37 per cent to $31 million and PSP sales down 2 per cent. [Note: This only makes sense if he means that this is what they're up by instead of what they're equal to.]

Microsoft's Halo: Reach sold 3.3 million units during the month, below Cowan's 3.75 million estimate, while Activision's Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, only managed "a fairly dreadful" 86,000 units in its first five days.

He also singled out Nintendo's Metroid: Other M as missing expectations, in the first month that The NPD Group stopped releasing detailed data on individual sales.

Released in August, EA's Madden NFL 11 slowed down in its second month on the market, with unit sales down 11 per cent, with Creutz adding "we continue to expect cumulatively flat year-on-year performance for the franchise through December."

There were "few major surprises at the publishers" during September, said Cowan & Company - including PC software, Activision Blizzard sales were down 41 per cent, EA down 42 per cent, Take-Two down 170 per cent and THQ down 25 per cent compared to the same month last year.

GAF Ninjas can attempt to extrapolate and figure out PS3 and PSP data.

"Hardware unit sales, with the exception of the Xbox 360, are down versus last September, but a couple other platforms, specifically the PS3 and the PSP are up on an average sales per week basis as compared to last month (August 2010)," Frazier said. However, average retail price of hardware rose in September, primarily because of the Xbox 360 Halo:Reach bundle and the PS3 Move bundle, she said.

"The three PS3 Move SKU's residing in the accessories category each made the top 10 in unit sales of accessory items for the month of September."

"The 360 Live 1600 point card was once again the best-selling accessory item, followed this month by the PS3 $20 Network Card.

Assuming this means Wii and Ds are even/down

Wii <= 305k
DS <= 428k

"Nintendo, meanwhile, sold 403,000 of its handheld DS systems in the U.S., and 254,000 Wii consoles. Sony would not disclose how many PlayStations it sold during the month."

I don't know whether to be enthused that Other M managed to beat the combined sku's of MW2 and actually charted, or depressed that it got beaten by a PSP game.

And now we play the waiting game.

Surely Capcom will tweet total DR2 sales right? They gave us like 3 updates on Case Zero.

Someone should post Sept 09 and August 10 sales for reference as well.

We also know that Move got outsold by 1600 MSP and $20 PSN cards.

Someone needs to take that % increase and use it to estimate how much the 3 Move SKUs contributed to growth YoY.
and then fudge how much each SKU sold.

Suck it, DR2 skeptics.

Yes, I wish we had actual numbers, but at least this kinda hints towards it doing well so I'm happy. The game deserves success for being awesome and I hope Capcom will be sending Blue Castle some phat stacks of cash for doing such a fine job.

Can we extrapolate the possible sales of each of the games by looking at earlier month rankings and see how much of a percentage they are of the highest selling game?

Modern Warfare 2 (X360) sold almost 1 million more than Reach in the same period of time.

I expected more from Reach, but apparently MW2 is absolutely insane.

Nice to see Metroid and Kingdom Hearts Chart even with the combined format system. Hopefully some press releases will gives out some numbers.

In theory fifa 11 being 5th in the usa is impressive. In reality it could have sold 6 copies.

Youve ruined everything NPD.
