Shin Sakura Wars : new info + gameplay

So there has been a long video in Japanese with few new information about Shin Sakura Wars.
Frontline Gaming Japan has a good article on it. at least that the best I can find:

sinsakura_6_09.jpg

And for the people interested, there is some gameplay in the following video:

There is mainly gameplay about the exploration and discussion system inside the game. I feel more of those existed already in previous Sakura Taisen game.

edit: adding Gematsu article which has more details.

edit2: Post with new details and video. Including combat gameplay.

No longer an SRPG but it still looks good. I like being able to wander actual mission areas with the mech things rather than just transport to the encounter phase and back to the hub/social stuff afterwards.

Maybe it's more Persona-like in this way, replacing dungeons with mission areas. The combat system has a lot to prove, it looks okay if very simple for now, with some nice fancy special move effects on top.

Edit: TGS full report:

Edit: Sakura Wars Opening video
Don't know if this is the right thread to put this in, if not then alert me to the appropriate one.
Hey, if no one's seen this, it's the opening for the new Sakura Wars game.

Overall it looks really promising. Like it never left, but with a nice fresh coat. Also, Sakura is cute.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Hope it gives Persona a run for its money with the social stuff but an actually good story and characters. Don't fuck it up SEGA!

I only don't like having a Sakura clone (I guess the original will show up to drop wisdom on her) and some characters having too similar outfit styles, past generations were more unique.

Well, at least there's a chance it might get released on more than one platform.

It might go on PC. But I give it a close to 0% chance to see it on Xbox. But this will be better than Persona.
After Valkyria Chronicles, Sakura Wars is a given on PC.
I sure hope so. I've been so lonely lately that I started to respond to shipping confirmation Emails with "Thanks, man." Never gotten any responses, though.
So, any substantial dating sim on PC is cool with me.

I recommend watching the original anime series in anticipation. It's very very good (and less of a dating sim/harem deal than the games I guess). Cool setting and characters (more than the last game imo). Hope this lives up to that.
Dunno about the movies/ovas, haven't watched them to know if they're sequels, prequels, retellings, side stories, whatever. Some have a different country setting, one at least has the last game's New York setting and characters, etc.

Had not played the games but series is one of the good Mecha anime.

It is impossible to add all game elements to the plot, but compared to VC anime adaptation or even p4 and P5, it is a masterpiece.

As for the ovas, they are hit or miss really. I only liked the first ova, based on the first game.
Movie has also very good production values.

This must technically be Sakura Wars 6 I presume!?

I'll buy it when I play the rest.
From what I understand, these are "visual novel" games with tactical mecha combat instead of porn scenes...

You can consider them SRPG (since they - except for Shining Force - don't have gameplay beyond battles, just story) and off battle as a dude you, em, bond with the female squad a la Persona based on your choices and mini games, there's some wandering in the city to facilitate this, etc.

You don't need to play previous games to enjoy any single game. Also not all have been translated. Most haven't I believe.

I'd just like to point out that the TV series is markedly not canon, mangles the story and characters, and is generally reviled by series fans. Given how the kouma are actually returning in Shin and thus may be relevant again I'd actually recommend not watching it as it'd probably confuse anyone who doesn't know that it has nothing to do with the games.

The other shows (OVAs, movie) are spinoffs of the games and are made for people who've already played them.

Why would Sega want to compete against a company they already own though?

Yeah, it's impossible for the anime to include any of the trademark dating elements naturally. Hopefully this one kicks off and they can continue putting out games.

Mmm no. 3,4,5,6 are not announced even on PC yet
Though we have 0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2, right? and 3-5 were recently remastered so I wonder if they'll just port the collection over.

Well I guess it’s as good of a time to come out of hibernation and post again. Perfect time to with all the news on new Sakura Taisen.

The game just looks so good. Everything they showed in the stream was what I was hoping to see in the game. And the second that they showed Sumire is back (including her voice actress thank goodness), I was so happy to see that.

Can’t wait to play it this winter. Absolute my most anticipated title right now.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Since it’s not an SPRG, I might actually go for this haha.

I'm kinda down it's not an SRPG anymore, but I have faith. It doesn't really look like a Musou due to the enemy amount being fairly small, just more like a straight up simple action game, lol. I just hope the Enemy AI is still smart in some way so it prompts you to use the other systems they've listed.

Watched the stream last night and let out a nice loud scream of joy at the December 12th announcement. Wasn’t expecting them to make the release date announcement so quickly. Already got the special edition preordered and all.

As for the change from srpg to arpg, I was quite surprised by that when it was revealed but quickly I was ok with it as the gameplay looked good and fun. Plus since this is “New” Sakura Taisen I’m up for some changes to the formula as long as most of the core aspects of what makes Sakura Taisen the series it is is there, and thankfully it is. Still would’ve been nice if they have stayed with the srpg elements.

But wow, with this in December confirmed, November to May next year are packed with so much awesomeness. This back to back with Shenmue 3 especially is like a dream come true!

I finally got a chance to watch the stream video, and I'm not impressed by the new action-style combat.

The previous Sakura Wars games featured fairly accessible strategy mechanics to the point that calling them simple would be fair criticism. While I can understand not wanting to make the franchise a hardcore-strategy affair, the combat in the video stream came across as bland: it certainly looked very straightforward, but not all that stylish; and I worry how entertaining it'll be over the long haul. Trading simple strategy for simple action might not prove to be the best decision. Hopefully future videos will showcase more interesting battles.

I'm only in for the dating sim stuff anyway so I don't mind if it isn't SRPG anymore.
This game is being made by Valkyria Team, is it not? I was kind of looking forward to their own take SRPG gameplay.

SW5 battle system was far more polished than previous games and I'd thought game would be based on that and would be enhanced even more. Boss battles were epic

As long as they keep the romance aspect in affecting the battles, I have optimism
