Stories like this make me really hate life... :(

Police: US man decapitated disabled son, 7
By JANET McCONNAUGHEY - Associated Press | AP – 6 hrs ago

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A man in the state of Louisiana is accused of bludgeoning, decapitating and dismembering his disabled 7-year-old son and leaving the boy's head near the street so the child's mother would see it — a killing that brought seasoned police officers to tears, authorities said Monday.

Jeremiah Lee Wright, 30, waived his right to an attorney and confessed to killing Jori Lirette within 30 minutes of being brought to the police station Sunday, Police Chief Scott Silverii said. He said Wright was booked with first-degree murder and held in lieu of $5 million bond.

He was in isolation, Silverii said during a Monday afternoon news conference. The department spokesman, Detective Ricky Ross, said he does not believe Wright has an attorney.

Flowers, balloons and stuffed animals were left Monday outside the house where Jori died.

"He was maybe the best thing that ever happened to me," his mother, Jesslyn Lirette, said at the news conference.

A preliminary autopsy found the boy was bludgeoned, decapitated and dismembered, Silverii said. Whatever hit him caused "excessive bleeding in the head," he said.

Silverii said the motive was unclear, though Wright told police "that he'd gotten to the point where he was tired of taking care" of the boy, who had cerebral palsy and heart problems, needed a feeding tube, had limited speech and was in a wheelchair.

"He said when he put his head out by the side of the road it was so the mother would see it when she came by," Silverii said. He said Wright's only explanation for doing so was "just that he wanted her to feel stupid when she saw the head."

The police chief said Jori's feet and one hand also were cut off, recovered with the body in several white plastic garbage bags.

The slaying was the first in Thibodaux since 2008.

Silverii said the boy apparently was decapitated over the kitchen sink, which was sent to the Louisiana State Police crime lab along with a box of tools found nearby. Wright told investigators he began killing the boy about 30 minutes after Lirette had left Sunday to repair her pickup truck so she could take Jori to a doctor on Tuesday.

Police had been called to the house last month when the couple had an argument — possibly about money — though neither person brought charges, Ross said. The police chief said Wright had been arrested a few times previously, though he was never charged with violent crimes. Wright served 10 days for theft in 2005.

Lirette, 27, told The Daily Comet of Thibodaux that she and Wright had been together for 10 years, but that she had planned for some time to leave him.

She said she cared for another disabled person to pay household bills and was still around to care for her son, who had been born three months premature, could say only a few words and weighed no more than 50 pounds (22 kilograms) when he died.

"He was my star. No matter what people think or say, he was always top priority in my life," Lirette said through tears during the news conference. "I've done everything I can for him."

Reading all of these stories on GAF over the past couple of years has really desensitized me. I barely bat an eye when I read this shit. I mean, it's fucking horrible, but there's a new one every week now (or more).

Poor kid.

You would think at some point, while in the middle of decapitating his son, it would occur to him: "this is a little extreme". I just can't wrap my mind around how somebody gets this psychotic...

But seriously. It's a strange and superfluous accusation that is not supported by the article. I wonder why the OP added it.

I wonder if those Berkeley professors took this kind of shit into account before coming up with that “Survival of the Kindest” study. My heart goes out to the victim's mother.

edit: dumb sentence. Not worth arguing about.

Rednecks in LA? Yes. Rednecks are everywhere. I wont necessarily call this guy a redneck though. Just a white asshole.

How do you know it was a redneck OP? OK the kid was disabled but that can happen to anyone, the kids conditions might have been due to incest in which case yes maybe it was a redneck. You should not make assumptions like that OP, it's not good to think all white people have disabled kids due to fucking their own sisters.

Eh, because words have meanings. It makes as much sense as calling some random black dude a "thug."

To be clear, beheading children is a very bad thing.

EDIT - lol at KingDizzi. Good one!

Is this going to be a rule? I know the whiners stopped since people started to get banned by Ami, but it would be good to at least know where the line is drawn for these.

Anyway, sad story. Dude needs to be locked up.

Ugh, this shit is getting tedious and harder to believe... yet easier to swallow. I just hope to hell that his death was quick and painless, however unlikely that is. :(

Honestly, after that Canada guy on the bus, and the guy mauled out his baby's neck, i've just lost faith. How can the world we live in become so fucked up to produce humans like this.

The Land of Bagged Milk
Bastard deserves anything that's coming to him. Leaving his son's decapitated head on the street so his mother would see it and feel stupid? Awful, and it brings me to tears (the story kind of hits home for me).

I know and have experienced/witnessed a lot of the stress that comes with caring for a disabled child. But what the fuck was wrong with this asshole that not once did he think that killing his kid would be extreme? Fuck him.

That poor angel. And his poor mother. Heartbreaking. I hope that poor child rests in peace.

I think the thing to remember is that people like this, as horrible as they are, are still by far and large the exception. I prefer to think that humanity is mostly good, or at least decent enough to not needlessly harm others. GAF needs at least two happy news articles for every mortifying one...

Uh, yeah, I think we may have unintentionally sent a mixed message. Just to give a rough idea of the thinking, we've had a long-standing policy discouraging users from complaining about threads, and I think thats probably where Ami was coming from. I mean, like, I guess the gaming side analog is that someone starts a thread and gets a bunch of "Does this really deserve a thread?" replies, right? And that's clearly not something we want.

Obviously depressing story / graphic violent crime titles bother some people, we've gotten complaints about it for a while now and I don't think we have a perfect solution to balancing having descriptive thread titles while avoiding having a whole page of depressing crime threads. There's no official policy or rule or consensus, except that blatantly NSFW content should be avoided but that should be evident. I think bish probably renamed this one because it was exceptionally depressing, although I don't/can't speak for his thinking. I do think there's a lot of sense to bish's suggestion here to use judgment in terms of coming up with thread titles.

So, uh, in the short term I guess I'd just say use your best discretion if you're creating a thread about this kind of thing and maybe take into account what bish was suggesting, but please don't backseat moderate by whining if someone else decides to make a thread title you're not happy with. If you ever have a concern about any thread you're reading, PM an online mod and hopefully they can help you out. Always better to have moderation being handled by moderators than by public demand in a thread :)

This is kind of awkward timing and I haven't personally had a chance to talk with very many other mods about this, so don't construe anything I'm saying here as overriding or contradicting what other mods have said. This is just an off-the-cuff reaction. Nirolak sent me a PM suggesting we might be sending a mixed message and better to get out in front of it and clear up any confusion. Sorry if there was a mixed message. Hopefully we'll have more of a consensus on it mod-wise going forward.

I suppose I'd agree, however I guess I'd say that these day being 'decent enough not to needlessly harm others' may not be decent enough, if we still find ourselves with low life's like this being produced. It's tragic, but this guy has mental issues deeper than stupidity.

Also, @Stumpokapow, I wouldn't mind a
