GameSpot said:
"The risk of just [releasing more games] is that you end up just bulking up your release schedule and that isn't really what consumers want. Consumers want better, not more," Zelnick said. "So our selective approach, which we've taken since '07 I think has paid off. Now, we have gotten more by taking that approach; we've launched one new successful franchise every year and I would like to keep doing that particularly because I talk about permanent franchises, but not everything is going to be a permanent franchise. Some of our great franchises eventually will lose their luster and some will hopefully be permanent."

"I pretty much know the ones that I can assure you are permanent. It's obvious that GTA is a permanent franchise as long as we keep delivering this incredible quality; it seems quite obvious that Red Dead is a permanent franchise, again with the same caveat, or Borderlands, for example, and NBA and others," Zelnick added. "But not everything is going to be a permanent franchise. We can do very well even if it's not. I would like to see us grow with a couple more great franchises in the next couple years and we're launching Evolve; we have very high hopes for that."

This is actually the second time Zelnick has referred to Red Dead Redemption as a "permanent" franchise, following comments from July 2013. Also during the presentation, Zelnick said Take-Two has an enviable track record of quality, though he did acknowledge that the company has made poor bets before--like 2011's Duke Nukem Forever.

Would be interesting to see if they can capture a new atmosphere in the next title. I lost interest in the Wild West a long time ago.

I like how endless is used in place of milk it dry. At least it won't be yearly like many other definitions of that word.

Yeah, I love RDR, but - and this isn't a slight - it's a western. You can totally keep making those and Zelnick calling these franchises "permanent" isn't worrying 'cause they only release new installments every 4-5 years. Hard to get tired of that schedule if the game is always good.

I love them, but the insiders really need to chill with the blatant cold-calling.

Sounds like he has a respectable approach and understands that high quality combined with infrequent releases goes a long way towards making these permanent franchises successful

They sure are lucky they have Rockstar though

It's been years since the last Red Dead, they're hardly milking it. Ass Creed and COD fall in that category.

A next gen game would be fantastic. There is still so much about that era left to explore. I hope the Civil War and slavery are looked at this time. Rip off Django as a protagonist and the game is all kinds of win.

Hell, I'd be happy with a PC release let alone "permanent".

Rdr is a game everyone who loves games should play. I usually can't stand westerns, but Rdr is so good, I was into it.

oh, hell yeah. Take-Two hit a fucking goldmine with them.

but if we get another sequel, I really hope it comes after a new game from them. I love their series to death, but I also love when they try new things. Bully and Manhunt was great, so I wouldn't even mind if they released a sequel to these before RDR3. Wouldn't mind a new Midnight Club from them either.

Wouldn't the next game be the spiritual successor to RDR rather than directly RDR2?

Anyway, I hope it happens soon. Maybe even this E3. I'm in dire need of good western-style games.

RDR is not only one of my favorite games last gen, but one of my favorite games ever, so I'm down.

I like the idea mentioned above of making the next game borrow from Django a bit with a black slave/former slave as the protagonist. That would be awesome.

Funny as hell, just yesterday Lazy Game Reviews was mentioning on a Watch_Dogs stream he was doing that he'd been having dreams/nightmares of a Red Dead sequel with the subtitle "Tacos Redeemed".

Could the redemption of tacos truly be at hand?

Hmmm Agent 2015...?
Really thinking about, how nuts did GAF get when it was announced? I mean imagine a R* exclusive game now.

At least it won't be annually since Red Dead would take at least five years!

They should port it to PC and maybe make spin offs for Vita! And do some F2P ios stuff!

Red Dead Revolver for ios!

I want another Red Dead so badly but it better be current gen only. Cross gen would be extremely disappointing.

There is a lot they could do with Red Dead. Moving closer a modern age and everything that goes with that. I love the game and atmosphere, no way it should be a one off.

Yeah, this currently seems way more of a "mario kart" situatio than, say, a "guitar hero" one. When there's approx 1 game per console generation, it would take eons to even contemplate having a risk of burnout. Not really a plan I can find fault with.

It's pretty much certain that GTA V will see a new console and PC announcement at e3, so it seems that from what they say, if they are going to rerelease the original red dead or a new one it won't be soon.

The best thing about Rockstar games is that they naturally take so long to make which makes it hard for them to wear out their welcome. Give us more! Give us Red Dead Re... velations! And please plan for a PC-version this time so we can double-dip like crazy.

Not surprised at all considering how it sold and R* has to release other games during GTA's off years to keep their shareholders happy. I wouldn't rule out an internally developed L.A. Noire sequel coming from them either.
