But things changed after they met up for the first time again. My wife didn't seem so eager to be with me, then started expressing that she thought this might not be fair for me, then started talking about what might happen if we break up. And then we did. We've decided we'll continue living together and raising the kids together, but we're not a couple anymore and her girlfriend is going to move in with us.

And it all makes sense to me now, because I've seen them together. Constantly wanting to touch, hold hands, kiss. I can hear a difference in her voice when she talks to her, and she looks at her in ways she's never looked at me. She knows what it means to be in love now. I tell them not to modify their behaviour for my sake, because I don't want to be a burden on their relationship and (although I haven't said this) because there's no way they can interact without making me feel jealous. But I'll get over it. Knowing that it could never have been what I wanted makes it easier to accept that it's over.

I've got four kids (having another pair of adult hands around the house will help with that lol).

I'm new here, but my expectations for NeoGaf is to discuss videogaming and the occasional off topic that strikes my fancy. I hope to have healthy discussions with posters here where civility is respected.

ResetEra is not such a place. It's a cyber safespace for narcissistic victimhood where most members are so thin skinned they'll gang up on you if you even dare to disagree with them. Like someone said earlier in this thread, it's not a place for discussion but for affirming your victimhood and encouraging your delusional view on reality.

What you have to understand is that the viewpoint, "I'm a victim and the world is out to get me" only works in an echo chamber filled with people affirming their "victim" status. Once you introduce another voice saying "well my life was really hard at times but I worked my ass off and persevered and became a better person because of it" then you start to beg the question, "are these people actually 'victims' of anything other than their own frame of mind?" For these self-proclaimed "victims", having to acknowledge that their lack of achievement in life is a direct result of themselves and not the fault of some ill-defined concept like "sexism" or "racism" would be too much for them to take. So, they'll go to every length they possibly can to squelch any voice that stirs the thought that they are responsible for their own shit lives.

I think we misconstrue just how much agency we have. We are, as you say, influenced by our “frame of mind” or perspective - and yet this is not so easily reshaped. Aren’t brains part of our physiology?

I think GAF puts on a tough façade as a response to Ol' DoubledownERA, but I've put my ass out there on a mental health topic and the response was amazing.

I think the people here are generally good and compassionate, but have suffered too much posturing and signaling to leave it out on the surface.

Other posters have mentioned GAF is more 'stoic', and I agree. My advice to anyone who wants to post personal issues is to be genuine, honest, and looking for some kind of betterment - even if it's just the strength that comes from sharing - and not approaching it as a victim.

So, the 'reset' model? No. But surely there is a GAF model.

Honestly I prefer the more liberal less serious stance that GAF has become and I’m glad I decided to leave resetera it’s full of hard leftist that cannot bare to be told something liberal hell your a fucking right winger if even suggesting a centrist stance.

It dawned on me that Era wasn’t for me as I don’t but into the feminist/intersect society that Era fully supports.

Personally I would like GAF to stay as it is and not to follow Era, I need a sane site to come to for gaming news and fun in the OT leave the Marxists to Era.
