Ha no PE as expected.
didn't know this thread existed - visited for a week back in may for my 30th birthday and it was an amazing trip. beautifully green and clean country, it had alot more to offer than i expected. got cocky and thought the humidity would be no big deal (australian) but it kicked my ass. i cannot fathom how people walk around in suits...
for future tourists i stayed at the parkroyal on pickering. expensive but it was an incredible stay.

Compared to North America, I love it. But yeah, the "5, then 5, then 15, then 30, then 30" telecom line was not great.
What a farce.
Well, people don't really walk around in suits. Not for long periods of time outdoors anyway.

Hello people.
I am going to be in Singapore in December for a few days on the way to Borneo. Is 3 days a good amount of time to get a feel of the place and see/do some of the main things?
Also, what's the weather like in December?

i didn't see many as say, japan, but there were still enough!
3 days is enough. Anything in particular that you'd like to see?
Weather is the same all year round - reach a high of 33degrees Celsius on a normal day

- Merlion Park
But mostly I just want to see the different districts and get a sense of the city. Definitely want to try as much food as possible!
Anything in particular people would recommend as far as things to see/do?

The weather has been flipping on dime the last couple of days- one moment it's heavy rains, the next moment it's bright and sunny, and then back to dark clouds again.
personally the night safari was a huge waste of time/money.

SingaporeGAF I need your help. Me and my partner have been debating about moving to Singapore back and forth for a considerable time now (she's Singaporean). She is however concerned about the work-life balance Singapore may throw at us.
We both work as Software Dev's, she thinks we'll be working til 10pm regularly. Currently in the UK we finish at the time in our contract (5pm) give or take 15mins and rarely do overtime. If I move will I be damning myself to hours well in excess of my contract as a part of the work culture?

it really depends on where you work. I heard of normal working works (like 8:30/9 to 5:30/6 etc) and hellish working hours where you have to work over time till 10 plus everyday.
its definitely not the norm here for most to work OT everyday , we are not Japan.

8 to 5 are the norm around here, not counting night shifts and the likes of course.
I think bigger companies would try to support better work-life balance with various cohesion events.

Appreciate the response guys, good to know if we do go I should hopefully not be slaving away at a desk. I intend to apply for PR before I go, though I've read its a long drawn out process when you apply via the embassy and not from within the country itself. Failing that I'd have to grab a work visa like everyone else, least they seem to be cheaper in Singapore than they are in the UK (we've currently spent almost £5k on visa's for my wife...)

Urgh U.K. Visa... do you know that if you ever want to inquire about the status of your student visa application they charge you £5 just to send an email?

Thinking of getting the SNES Mini Classic. What's the situation like here? Any official release? Or all parallel imports? Would we need a stepdown transformer for the power supply if it's a US parallel import?
Edit: Apparently it's USB powered so that's not an issue. Now to think about where to find one.

Last time I looked Qisahn still did preorders for it? Maybe Gamewerks does too, depends where you live.
There is an "official" release in that MaxSoft does all of the distro so we get the NA model (purple unit) and I believe also the Japanese SF if you prefer (but no localization there). If you want the euro model you'd have to import. But yeah, like with NES classic its powered by a USB cable. NES classic came with a wall plug for the other end of the USB cable, but I mean I power it by plugging it into a spare USB port on my desktop PC at work...
A few other recommendations.
I think Clarke Quay is a really good place to visit in the evenings. Go there for dinner, and then go for drinks by the riverside after that.
The best view of the city is actually from the Singapore Flyer. It isn't exactly cheap though. It may be worth it for a first time visitor to Singapore.
Go to chinatown. There are many asian/traditional style snacks you can buy. You can buy them at any place, but many are conveniently located in Chinatown pretty much. Buy the pork jerky called bah kwa. Try kaya toast with soft boiled eggs for some local flavour.
There are many attractions in Sentosa. Casino, theme park, butterfly park, some water sports if you are interested.
You can make a day trip to indonesian island Batam, which is about an hour by boat from Harbour Front. Check your visa requirements before you go though. Many people can get visa on arrival.
I've done this a couple of times. It's generally pleasant enough but like with all niche hobbies, you need to do your own research and know what you are looking for.
My advice:
Bring your own source materials.
Don't fall for the speaker cables/interconnects/power supply snake oil.
Be thick skinned
Always bargain

At one point Qisahn reopened preorders which I guess was due to MaxSoft getting more stock allocated from Nintendo, so I think some of the other shops have a decent chance of still having preorder slots...

Superior design indeed. But I owned the US SNES when I was a kid so I need it for that nostalgia feels LOL.

This is good advice.
There are good vendors there and there are also sharks. Take your time. check out all the speakers and listen to them. The guys will be happy to let you do so. You need to research types and pricing before, so you can bargain. But research is no substitute for listening. Take a reference track and test it on different set ups. But bear in mind that different stores use different amos and rigs that colour the sound.
It sounds like overkill, but if you are going to grt good speakers its an investment and you dont want buyers remorse.
I love the Adelphi. Got decent speakers and turntable there.
Make an afternoon of it and enjoy yourself.

Somehow or another Funz Square at Far East Plaza still had leftover stock of the SNES classic. Instant impulse buy. I definitely didn't expect to get one without making a preorder.

$169, which if I understood from my hasty, on-the-spot checking, was the maxsoft retail price here in Singapore already. (asides from each store's own preorder prices.)
I am thinking this as well.
I really want one. But I am in the midst of decluttering and selling a lot of my old stuff (sold a lot of my old consoles and games in the past year) and buying this will just go against all of that.
Yup same. Been selling alot of my stuff as I'm moving out soon. But I Bought a PSVR on impulse 3 weeks back, and regretted it on the day itself. Was taught a very expensive lesson in buying stuff that I do not really need!
The SNES classic would be a good device to introduce my spouse (mines not interested) or your kid to retro gaming- but if it was purely for my use, I don't think I'd enjoy the games as much as I imagine I would.
Lol sounds like we are in the same boat. I moved out at the start of this year which prompted the decluttering. Sold a lot of stuff but kept the PS2 and 360 which were my main consoles of their respective generations. Thinking of getting rid of those too.
I bought a Rift two months ago that has been gathering dust too LOL. I don't regret it but the content is so thin at the moment.

I understand that Gamemartz has just received their stocks of the Super Famicom Classic (my preferred model). Just FYI - unless youve already caved in and bought the SNES classic
