London, UK - 2 nd February, 2017 – Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) today announced that its Netflix original series “Skylanders TM Academy” has been renewed for a third season. Production on the third season of “Skylanders Academy” — the first television series developed and produced by Activision Blizzard Studios — will begin in February, with animation again created by the renowned TeamTO studio in France.

“Activision Blizzard Studios celebrates the opportunity to bring another season of quality programming to families around the world,” said studio Co-President Nick van Dyk. “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Netflix on this iconic franchise.”

Season 3 will launch in 2018. This year, audiences can enjoy Season 2 of “Skylanders Academy,” which brings back Justin Long as Spyro, Ashley Tisdale as Stealth Elf, Jonathan Banks as Eruptor and Norm Macdonald as Glumshanks.

New addition Felicia Day ( The Guild, Supernatural and Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will join the cast in Season 2, voicing the role of Cynder, a new cadet at the Academy with a mysterious past.
The Diamond Minecart (Daniel Middleton) will reprise his role as Cy and Daniel Wu returns as King Pen. Additional voice talent in Season 2 includes Susan Sarandon, Parker Posey, James Hetfield, Catherine O’Hara, Bobcat Goldthwait, Chris Diamantopoulos, Jonny Rees, Harland Williams and Richard Horvitz. The series features the exclusive song “Harmony” (Skylanders Academy Theme) produced by GRAMMY® Award winner Timbaland and performed by Timbaland fet. Dalton Diehl.

“Response to the show has been incredibly enthusiastic and we’ve taken a lot of creative inspiration from fans’ excitement,” said studio Co-President Stacey Sher. “We have a lot of fun in store for season three and are thrilled to give audiences even more of the characters they love.”

Based on Activision Blizzard’s record-breaking $3.5 billion Skylanders® game franchise 1, “Skylanders Academy” is high quality entertainment for the whole family. This Netflix original series follows the heroic adventures of Spyro, Eruptor, Stealth Elf, Jet-Vac and Pop Fizz as they travel the vast Skylands universe, protecting it from evil-doers. The award-winning Skylanders franchise, created by Toys for Bob, has sold through more than 300 million toys since pioneering the toys-to-life category in 2011 1, and late last year Activision launched Skylanders® Imaginators, the latest innovation in the franchise.

Activision Blizzard Studios launched last year to create original content based on the company's extensive library of iconic and globally-recognised intellectual properties, which includes some of the most popular entertainment franchises in the world. “Skylanders Academy” is the first production by Sher and van Dyk, who are joined by Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick as the series’ executive producers.

Wait Season 2 aired already?

Well I only have about hafl a dozen toys including Spyro, Crash and Cortex. My Spyro is a long horned one but finding a cheap Spyro toy was tough and seeing as Eon Elite wasn't available I just got one that Amazon was offering~

Hmm, I would assume that Liam Robertson's rumor of the series being shuttered were a tad premature, but it is somewhat telling that Activision is talking more about the series than the games, and the most recent game gets little more than a passing reference.

Wait, I was hoping they would approve a season 2, but it seems that was already done and a season 3 is also happening. Good news. Honestly, the show is pretty good for Skylanders fans and kids, so I think its a good business decision for Nelfix to renew it.

So is this to dispel the rumors that the franchise is done, or is it an attempt to re-ivigorate it?

I imagine it's more the latter. With the show coming after 5 games had already been out on shelves, I feel like that they're going to try their best to put the horse back in front of the cart. A Skylanders 2017 project would presumably have more direct ties to the show itself.

The rumors that the franchise is done also led to the conclusion that the 2nd season wouldn't come. Now they announce a third season. Can't imagine them doing that without at least one new game in the series.

That would be a sound move, straight up call the new game Skylanders Academy, put Spyro front and center again.

To be fair Liam was wrong about a whole lot of Switch stuff so being wrong about Skylanders wouldn't be too weird.

Honestly, the show is pretty solid for the most part. It did give me a few chuckles here and there. And Crash's inclusion was done alright (I seriously do not get the hate as to why he talks when the show itself is a separate entity from the actual games). It'd be nice to see Crash making more appearances in future episodes.

I'm genuinely surprised it took this long to get a tie in series. I remember back when the original Skylanders blew up, I was certain tie in media would start popping up within a year.

I was thinking about getting the newest game for Switch at launch. Never played any of them but they look competent enough and the Switch version doesn't need a portal. 🤔

Before you hop in, you might want to look for some sales or check ebay/amazon/local stores for cheap Skylanders. The series works really well when you get the chance to try out other characters.

The creation aspect of the new game is much more fun than previous ones, but the game doesn't really have a ton of content storywise. It seems like there's a lot of post game missions you can go on which help to pad it out though I guess.

I never said the series was getting shuttered. I said they were considering it and that the 2017 game was cancelled, which it was.

There's a reason he's banned.

Still here, still breaking news all the time. What's up?
