I respect the effort that was put into this, but uh....yeah. All you need for Smash is a Gamecube controller lol.

What says smash GAF?

it looks horrid.

it takes up more room than a normal GCC and looks like it would be far less comfortable and far less precise and useful.

that basically ticks every single box of an object that just out right should not exist as it serves no purpose at all.

I'll get one out of curiosity.

There's actually a big debate going on right now about whether this thing should be legal or not (as discussed in the article). It's probably going to wind up being allowed, but raises some interesting questions. Some hard things become much easier/more consistent, while many easy things become harder. Seems like it's going to have a huge learning curve too.

Also, here's a vid of a high level player demoing some of the stuff it helps with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nr3tOKMsN30

I remember reading this has been around for a while and a few techskill dedicated players were interested, since it lets you certain advanced techs far more easily (As in avoiding mistakes on the inputs).

Its hard to say if it will catch on, I think it won't. Smash players are so finicky with their controller you could still get a nice amount of cash for a GC controller in great condition until the re-release. Even now they are still in good demand.

I play a lot of Smash.

This looks like a nightmare...

Not even an analogue stick for a game that is BUILT for an analogue stick?? Please, show me how you would do tilts with this. Or even walk for that matter.

Not sure why one would choose that over a controller. Smash wasn't made for Arcade machines like Street Fighter

I look at this and I think I could make sense of it. Its pretty intriguing. I would definitely put the time in to learn it.

Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't this cut out a lot of angle options for things like Fox's recovery?

I was when hitbox owner was showing the smashbox to Javi (Mexican top player for Melee) because he plays on Claw styl which resembles to the how to play on an arcade controller

he showed us some interesting inputs there like getting another lowest sensibility of the input for the shield where is the biggest shield possible, inputs to control the specific angles for Fire Fox attack, same for angles of C-Stick, is the most complete controller for smash, but obviously has the learn curve for a new controller as an entry barrier

I can confirm analogue functions are there, with additional buttons of course

Before anyone jumps on this, I want to share something.

After playing Melee competitively for a couple of years (along with a couple other factors), my boyfriend started getting severe hand and arm cramps, and it eventually led to him developing carpal tunnel-like syndrome on his triceps. Now he can't play Melee anymore without risking injuring himself further.

This controller actually gives him a way to play Melee again without that risk. He has been all over it since it was revealed from a while back. And, according to him, mastering this controller can actually lead to more technical play due to the instantaneous button inputs.

So what I'm trying to say here is to just give it a chance. I too am skeptical, but he's more familiar with Melee than I ever will be, so I trust his word on this.

While it's been proven time and again that nobody reads the OP, might be wise to put a link to some of the videos showing it in action there to answer the most common questions.

That hurts to look at.

Like watching a video of a person breaking an arm. "It's not supposed bend that way!"

On a technical level, I can't imagine doing slight angled F-Tilts and the like.

This is the worst thing I've ever seen.

And one time I saw a GIF online of some guy having sex with a fish.

But this is definitely way worse.

This seems like it would be a disadvantage in a game like Smash.

Hell, I feels like there's already a distinction between the play styles that give people some slight advantage over the others...This seems like it would fall into the less desirable choices.

That looks terrible o_o

Smash is one of those fighters that was built around a regular controller or GCN pad to be specific. The GameCube pad is basically smash bros' fight stick.

Makes way more sense when you consider how smash is played at top levels. People like M2K, Armada and Mango crush their hands to make the obtuse button combinations work on the GC controller. I'm talking stuff like, for M2K at least, making your right index finger into a hook that lays across x and y just for faster access to those buttons.

At that point this would make much more sense.

Whenever it comes out, I'm sure I'll have a lot of opinions to throw out there. So I'll try to share.

If I had to guess right now, I bet I'll say that it's neat, but too hard to get used to.

I thought the whole point of an arcade stick was to replicate the controls that arcade-style fighting games were originally designed for. Seems a bit strange to do it for a game that was always intended for console controllers.

They're already talking about banning it from tournaments until the full extent of its power is known.

I mean, I'll never use one. I don't have the patience to learn a new control scheme, but you have to be kidding yourself if your opponent slapped it on the table just to look you dead in the eye with no reaction and only then turn to the screen. Never blinking the entire match. Which won't be long anyway.
