I have the gamebit screw driver so i can actually take the SNES cart apart and take the PCB out of the cart and use a pencil rubber/eraser and just rub fairly hard on the contact on the PCB both sides, you can actually see it burn of the dirt and grim on the contacts via friction. A Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol will NOT remove this grim from the contacts itself. I then finish off by using the Q-tip method after i have used the rubber.

Just get a controller extension. I've got a couple and use 'em with my japanese pad as well with my ascii pad. Speaking of ascii pad, I'm on the opinion this is the best third party controller EVER developed. It not only feels great, but looks fantastic and has turbo buttons.

I had this back in the day. Great controller. Love the colored buttons.

We've got a Genesis, SNES, and Saturn thread...I wonder if there would be enough interest for an NES and a PC engine / TG16 thread. Unless that would just be overkill.

Anyway all I found today (for SNES anyway) was:

The rest of the stuff the guy had was overpriced for the shape they were in ($25 bucks for Kirby Superstar with most of the label gone).

Here, I'll make the entirety of the TG16 thread:

Dude 1: "Hey guys, Turbografx!"

Dude 2: "Dat Dracula X!"

Dude 3: "What other games are there?"

Dude 1: "Games that end in 'Thunder' and 'Soldier'"

Dude 3: "What do I gotta buy to play this stuff?"

Dude 2: "You need the system, a system card, a new controller, the CD add-on, and..."

Dude 3: "nvm, this sucks."

It'll be on page 8 in like an hour.

If you guys want to occasionally post stuff about other systems, I don't have a problem with that. I'd like this to remain predominantly about SNES, but I think that would be the natural order of things anyway, as the SNES seems to be incredibly popular. But I'm not the GAF sheriff anyway, just putting in my 2 cents.

Speaking of cleaning. Just got Castlevania 2 in the mail:

Works like a charm now, but it was pretty nasty.
I had this happen with Bionic Commando. Took FOUR qtips before it came out clean. I swear, the seller must have had their games buried in the backyard and had to dig them up when someone finally bought one

Pretty good night. I went to an auction a few weeks ago and I won a small box of mediocre SNES games for $20. Picked out the ones I wanted that didn't have torn up labels. Threw the rest up on ebay with no reserve, hoping to make back a chunk of the money spent. Just sold for $70. Pretty much pays for that copy of Mega Man X2 I won today.

anyone know of any good used game shops in SoCal where one might find some decent SNES (and other used games) deals?

I think the SNES has the perfect balance of:
1) A whole bunch of games
2) Fairly reasonable prices
3) Games which are amazingly fun to play

I mean, I own more games for my NES, and NES and Atari games are certainly much cheaper to get, but, I enjoy getting SNES games more just because of how fun they are. Even the random games one comes across, there's a much better chance of finding a game which is unexpectedly fun.

I'd rather not keep copying their hard work of putting that list together, so people will have to follow the link after this.

But, here's all of Illinois:

  • Disc Replay (Decatur, Downers Grove, Countryside, Orland Park, Skokie, Elgin)
  • Exile on Main Street (Champaign)
  • People Play Games (Chicago)
  • Play N Trade (Cicero, Chicago, Crystal Lake, Geneva)
  • The Exchange (Belmont Red Line & Wicker Park, Chicago)
  • Tyton Games (Villa Park)
  • Video Games Ect (Moline)
  • Video Games: Then and Now (Norridge)

Link again.

Went to a flea market today, one of those Mexican ones. I found quite a few SNES games, but nearly all of them were sports games, but luckily one of them was NBA Jam for $3. The other games were all under the clutches of resellers, who were using Ebay + prices and were mostly filler, so no earthbounds or Chrono triggers. They should rebrand all of these sportgames as dog toys or skeet targets :D

Great thread, just picked up Chrono Trigger and FF II for 68$, I'm hoping that's a good deal? Picking up a new SNES mini with Mario All Stars and MW on Tues. :)

There's also a Disc Replay and a Play n Trade in Naperville. Not that either store is anything special. I went to Play n Trade for the first time last week, actually. Was sweet. They had Bug! for the Saturn.

lol yeah probably so, pretty high entry barrier unless you just snag a PC Engine Duo (region free CDs) and eventually mod it for english cards.

Yeah, I posted my NES pickups the other day. No need to splinter off into that many threads or they'll just die off and get buried forever.

Best to just keep this mainly about SNES.

Agreed. Games and niche gaming-related topics seem to do fine with their own dedicated threads, so creating separate threads for collecting separate systems should be fine. Like many other posters in this thread, I've only recently started properly collecting SNES games, so it's really nice having a thread dedicated to discussing it.

Here's my SNES collection...

There's a couple controllers as well, I just didn't pull them out.

I have Super Mario RPG...somewhere. Unless I got rid of it? Damnit, I have no idea where it went. I wouldn't get rid of that game, though. Hmmmm...

Anyway, the list of games there:

Super Bases Loaded
Madden '96
Super Scope 6 (No idea why I have this, I don't even have a Super Scope, never did)
Roger Clemens MVP Baseball
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Mario Paint
Cal Ripken Baseball
Madden '93
NHLPA '93

Mostly sports titles.

You know what? I must have another box because none of my NES games were in htere and I have a bunch of boxed games for the NES...now I need to go looking.

Because there isn't a thread for it, I pulled out all of my Zelda stuff and laid it out...

In the collection:

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64 - PAL)
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64)

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword CE (Wii)
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS)

For cleaning games, i'll take the cart apart, and use a vigorous motion on the contacts with a pencil eraser. Then i'll clean the shavings off and use 91% alcohol with q tips to clean the contacts. Works great.

I don't recommend using any alocohol below 90%.
Eh, I haven't had much luck with pencil eraser and alcohol. It'll do the trick sometimes, but every once in a while, I'll have a problem game that will not work no matter how clean I get it with eraser and alcohol.

Until... I bust out metal polishing cream. I use a cream called blue magic. Truly works wonders. It takes games that would barely work, and turn them into games that worked like new again.

Perhaps when we get those sport games, we should destroy them. Maybe then, they might become worth something later on over time if not so many exists. Ok that was prob a dumb idea. lol
Don't destroy sports games like madden 98 and the like, because they make excellent donor boards for reproduction carts.

Damn man, good stuff.

Btw is the super scope actually fun to use?
I don't know how I got it, I never had one! lol

My friend had one and we played Yoshi's Safari back in the day. I don't remember if it was any good, though.

(EDIT)
I also have DKC1 and 2 somewhere, too.

I go to a mexican one too. It seems like those ebay guys scoop up all the good games early in the morning. It's like they just go to show off their collections because nobody's gonna pay ebay prices there

Hey guys, I got a lot of snes stuff today that were either duplicates of stuff i owned, or things I didn't like the overall condition of but i'm very picky personally. The seller agreed to return the stuff with condition issues and I'm gonna let him know by tomorrow but I figured maybe some gaf folks might care to nab some of it first. They won't be up long however as I do need to let him know what I'm returning. Here is a link http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=47532000&postcount=2466
