This is what happens when Nintendo keeps its fanbase on last gen consoles for three gens in a row. Their expectations are lowered and they go nuts at every other decent looking game Nintendo puts out. This game looks ok. Nothing special. You all need to play horizon, battlefield, uncharted and well pretty much every other current gen game lol. They all put arms to shame.

battlefield? really? we now comparing a fightning game to a fps? if you had said sfV or guilty gear this would have made more sense. also battlefield 4 was hardly playable and hardline was plain bland.

Somebody from Arms needs to teach Sakurai about fighting game modes. This looks great. Volleyball and basketball look good too.

Also the vocal version of the main theme is great.

to be fair. sakurai was the one that included crazy modes like break the target, multi man meelee, platform or homerun contest into fighting games and i dont recall many other fighters having such modes.

I'm definitely more hyped than I was before. It has a great look and presentation, and if the motion controls work well it could be a spectacular multiplayer title.

making waifu wankbabes isn't the same as liking or finding them attractive.

someone who constantly objectifies females.

Nintendo didn't take those screenshots, a fan did. And if for some reason you find that to be an issue, it's the internet, Rule 34 is a thing and no one is going to change it, and it hurts no one.

The internet is going to internet. It is an immature cesspool with no sense of context... whatever.

That said, I love Twintelle's design. She comes across as powerful and glamorous and full of herself. She's easily the most visually-confident character. Folks are going to post and draw pics of her ass for years. Is that tacky? Yep. She still has a great design that has merit beyond the "thiccness." Since Nintendo saw fit to give her a pretty butt, people will dwell on that somewhat.

I deal with worse irl every day so I guess I am not as concerned as some.

i don't think anybody is ripping on it, it's just doesn't look stunning technically or artistically. honestly mario kart 8 a wiiu game on switch looks much better to me, stunning to me from nintendo was the zelda tech demo. i hope nintendo makes that a reality on switch, along with remake for galaxy 1 and 2.

I'm not sure why I would even bother replying to you, but...

Are you talking about that HD tech demo from like 2011? The one with all the pre-baked effects and lacking in physics? Considering that what we eventually got out of that was Breath of the Wild, this talking point seems particularly baffling and outdated, even for you.

People dissing the visuals?

That's a shame. It's not a technical power-house, but it doesn't need to be. It has a beautiful aesthetic and rock solid performance. It feels like a modern take on a classic arcade game in many ways.

The OP set expectations in that direction I think. Maybe if the "Nvidia man years" line was omitted this would change the conversation to focus more on the art style, and animations. After I read that line I kept scrolling down looking for what was sure to be impressive graphically, it's Nvidia's man years, I wanted to see what all that experience brought to the Switch.

I agree and I don't think screen grabs do it justice. I watched the direct on my tv and I thought the game looked really nice. I actually wasn't interested in the game until this direct... impressed me that much.

By PS4/X1 standards no because the powerhouses there are stuff like Injustice 2 and Tekken 7 if we're keeping it in the fighting genre, but that would be an unfair comparison for obvious reasons and it's not like the game actually looks shit compared to those anyway.

By... tablet sized console standards (lol) or compared to anything on wii u and similar consoles though i don't see anything to sneeze at in terms of lighting, materials, textures, character models and animations (the game is also 900p/60fps right?). It's not "just artstyle" like suggested, although that's pretty glorious. It looks legit impressive for the hardware it's running on, and some of the comparisons made with last gen fighting games are... yeah.

But i agree with your post in general, and i'm glad you liked the game. Can't wait for the testpunch next week!

It sure did, but at the same time i don't think that was suggesting top PS4 tier visuals. It's a game made for Switch and it looks better than wii u games. It's s start. The "man years" will be more apparent with new games down the road i think lol.

Why are we comparing a 3D arena fighting game to a 2D fighting game?

Shall we drag For Honor in here then?

Anyway game looks meh. Mostly because of the systems it runs on I guess.
Can't understand the "absolutely stunning" part which OP claims.

that was the last time i was stunned by a nintendo game, i still think it looks much better the zelda botw especially the wiiu version, which runs pretty bad and is 720p or below i think.

Well the man hours comment should be taken as about the fact that this game is playable on a portable. You folks are way too insecure. And no matter what you say, this game is impressive, especially at 60fps with split screen.

"Man years," Nvidia's man years!

I don't see how it makes me insecure. I came in looking for graphics, I like graphics. I admit it looks pretty artistically (like overwatch. Someone brought that up), very colorful. I don't click many nintendo threads, but this one grabbed my attention. I'd say I'm disappointed, but it's not that serious to me. I click on a lot of threads. I have nothing to be insecure about with regard to this game I think. Can you explain how I'm insecure? I Dunno.emoticon.

Edit: You know I think if the OP had screen shots in it and I didn't have to search and click a video to look for the stunning looks I would have just moved on.

I have a powerful gaming-PC ( 1440p monitor, too ), and the most graphically "realistic" game has been Battlefield 1 on Ultra settings. But that doesn't mean that I wouldn't be able to be impressed by ARMS' graphical flair and visual style. To me, it is never about visual horsepower - its about style. And ARMS is one of the most visually appealing games I have seen. So yeah - color me excited!

The headline does not suit the game well. The material shaders are not what I expect from Switch and look like the engine still roots in the WiiU era. Everything is shiny, a bit at odds withe the bumpmap structures. Reminds me of VF5.

Snake Pass for example looks better.

Considering it lacks the physics engine of BOTW and it's large scale, it'd be kind of bad if it didn't look better as that's the trade off for what BOTW aimed for. Had Nintendo just made a Twilight Princess 2, they could've gotten a much better looking game, probably close to that tech demo, but, for 99% of people, that doesn't matter much as they'd rather just play an amazing game. Also I have the Wii U version of the game and it doesn't run pretty bad. There are some drops, especially against Moblins and in villages, but, for the most part, it runs fine. Not acceptable for, say, a fighting game but more than fine for Zelda

I'm kinda surprised by all the love honestly. I was really hype during the reveal trailer and the following Direct that showed a match being narrated turned me off.

Just watched the Direct for it specifically and nearly fell asleep. It has a neat art style even if I don't really like the characters except for Barq and Byte, Mechanica and Ribbon Girl.

Music sounds great actually, I'll give it that. The only thing is that every mode looks dull to me and worth maybe one play each and then ignore them forever like most other modes for me in fighting games. The actual fighting... seems both too simple and too complicated for me at the same time somehow.

I'll try the Testpunch to come to a final verdict but man I was seriously disappointed. Wish I could love it too :(

Played this a lot earlier in the week. It's really damn good. It has a Dreamcast-era vibe to it that I love.

It really does. :)

I wasn't looking forward to it at first since I don't like sports games for the most part, unless they are over the top arcade like games.

ARMS has the kind of style and feel of games like Power Stone and Virtual On which have been missing for way too long.

You think that a short, controlled tech demo with cooked visuals was more impressive than a massive scale open world physics-based sandbox where everything is done in real time?

I mean, not just for the sake of your usual spin schtick, but as an actual opinion that you really hold?
