So Atelier Totori + just launched with no marketing or even a release date

I sent Tecmo-Koei America an angry letter about Ayesha, but I am more and more convinced that there is no one there to read it.

At least they seem to have an actual person or two in Europe.

I'd imagine EU folk will get it tomorrow, given that TK America is obviously dead and this is actually TK Europe at work.

People would probably call the FBI to investigate them as child pornographers if they advertised it, since that is the general reaction people have to moe.

They may as well have at least gotten NISA to handle marketing and everything else, though given they were handling distribution anyway I wonder how much the change in hands really mattered.

... And releasing 3 GB games digtally only is kind of crap, even if the appeal's very niche. Would probably be easier to swallow if memory cards were bigger AND cheaper, not such a big deal if 32 GB could be gotten for $40, even $50 max, and if 64 GB cards were an option, nevermind 128 GB.

Honestly that seems to be a vocal minority to an extent, I think most people just shake their heads and move along, forgetting it exists.

Tecmo-Koei is such a gigantic mess. Of all companies to buy GUST why them? -_- look at what they are doing with the series. Completely sending it to die. Ffs! Nisa come back please. T_T

On one hand, it's pretty fun seeing a game suddenly pop up with no announcement or news about it before hand.

On the other hand, it's showing how non-existent Toei-Kecmo America is as a company.

I really, really, really need to sit down with someone from TK-US or TK-E or someone and have some words with them.

I just wish there was an actual way to contact TK-US about business inquiries! No such method exists on their US site!

I'm convinced there probably isn't actually ANYONE at TK-US beyond people organizing the printing and distribution of games. PR and whatnot must be handled in Europe at this point.

Uh...okay. So I guess this is a digital-only release? They could have at least released some info about this. What a strange thing to do. And a release so close to Ayesha, it makes no sense.

Wait, atelier games get marketed?

Well, usually they get at least announced.

Well that's surprising. I have the PS3 version but I haven't started playing it yet. Is there any reason not to play this version instead? I'm probably more likely to finish it on a portable.

Well, NISA at least provided release dates, they sent out some email newsletters, got a news item on genre sites such as RPGamer, had a limited edition, that kind of thing. You know, where at least well informed fans on GAF were perfectly aware when the game was going to be released.

Ayesha's lack of advertising is one thing, this...is something else entirely.

Genuinely speechless.

(At least they gave it a reasonable rating unlike Australia though, that's something)

Hm, so what's better, this or Ayesha?
Think most people would say Ayesha. I would too, though Totori's still a great game.

Wow... This really came outta nowhere.

This surprise release helped me surpass the $100 mark for this month. $20 credit for me next month. Sweet!

They sent it to die, didn't it?
If they refuse to localise Meruru Plus now because no one bought this... Yeah, that's probably exactly what they're going to do.

Seriously unbelievable, especially as it appears to have the dual audio everyone wanted too. Give everyone what they want and sneak it out there as if you're ashamed of it? What?

Subete no aware
I'm still wondering if they'll do a physical version.

I suppose I would also wonder if the JP track is still in this version of the game, given what happened with Ayesha.

Ah it is dual audio? Never mind then. lol

Physical copy?

It's really weird this just popped up too, I didn't play Totori at all so I'm in no matter what, would love a box though.

Given that it's an already translated game being sold digitally only (unless they're actually releasing physically in a month anyway) it's probably almost pure profit so they just... sent it.

tbh, I can see releasing games digitally as soon as it's gold and then worrying about a physical release becoming more common, especially amongst smaller publishers. However, I'd expect at the very least a "yo, game releases next Tuesday, here's details about the game" message on the PlayStation blog/Major Nelson/your own site.

Any trailer, impressions or videos?
It's a port of a PS3 game, you could look up reviews of that then check to see what changed in the Vita transition and what issues there may be with FPS/loading. If those weren't sufficiently remedied I'd stay away, but just because I have it in the PS3 backlog.

Well, there's still retailer ire, but that's why I wonder if the Vita's in the position that they don't even care anymore. Could also be they were ultimately rejected when they WANTED a retail release, then decided to just throw what they have on the PSN, but I'd think that'd be sorted out more than a month in advance.
So it's a straight RPG? Leveling, equipment, skills, the whole shabang-a-bang? And it's not one of those alchemist games, right?
It's all that plus alchemy. Iris may've been more traditional RPG styled but all the typical RPG stuff's there.

Eh, I'd imagine the in a few years I doubt retailer ire will be much of an issue, and indeed TK Europe strikes me as small enough that GameStop couldn't care less what they did.
