I alway thought he was kind of a joke character (NAMSAYIN?) or at least playing one. But after seeing a video of him speaking at this year's PAX I must really change my view of him. He has a truck load of charisma and is damn focused on what he does. He gives some very good tips for beginners as well as nice insight on his work.

Well, I don't think he's dumb or has a low IQ, certainly.

Some things he says or does are ridiculous, but overall I actually really like his enthusiasm for games, I love seeing that. But good God man, get rid of that belt.

He's the only person in the world who has said something regrettable in a fit of anger, I'm positive. Everyone else is perfect and you must be, too for pointing it out - because you'd be a hypocrite for posting it if you're not a perfect angel.

I like HHG. He has more passion for the industry than any other journalist lately.

The problem with guys with HHG is while they seem to be cool to be around they always shoot themselves in the foot when talking about stuff like rumors or when it comes to handling online feuds properly

They always discredit themselves in one way or another, despite their know-how

Pretty much.

Even in this video, he's all over the fucking place. He talks about "working smart" (no specifics) and in a month companies will be begging to work with you. Okay, so he emphasizes (what seems like) non-endemic advertising/relationships in order to do well as a writer. Makes some sense, though he cites Doritos as a company that "has nothing to do with games," which I think everyone on GAF would argue against.

Plus, if "working smart" means having a strong knowledge base of your craft, clearly he doesn't practice what he preaches.

Then he talks about how, like 50 cent, he makes most of his money doing things unrelated to his gaming journalism. Except that's not really true, because he makes money by shilling/writing music for games, which is a giant conflict of interest.

Then he goes onto working with your audience FIRST because the companies will come to you then. How do you get this audience in a month, then?

Honestly, it seems like he's just spouting things he remembers other people saying. I'm not impressed, really.

Do we set the bar that low for HHG? "Welp we all get angry before and do shit we don't wanna do, so X Y and Z is okay". Bollox.

As I said though, he seems to be improving and since becoming the ambassador he has gotten even better. These quotes are from before he was ECA ambassador I believe?

Agreed. For instance, this fucker swore a lot, but to me, he was one of the most intellectual men on the planet.

I have seen a few videos of Hip Hop Gamer and he is alright. Not a personal choice of channel but I don't dislike him either.

I think the problem is that he didn't feel an intense sense of shame afterwards

I can understand people using inappropriate language and getting heated in an intense situation but he apparently didn't feel he did anything wrong

It´s not up to you to judge who can speak for our hobby and who can´t. Besides it´s just one opinion of many. He does not speak for the whole industry. As far as i am concerned HHG is better than 80% of VG "journalists" out there.

He is smart like a controversial news presenter who spouts dumb shit to stir the pot is smart.

He found a way to make a living but there are few people in the gaming industry I have as little respect for as I do for HHG.
