So, huh, PS5 Pro early adopters ended up having the last laugh?

Best discount at launch.

Still waiting for Sony to give me a strong enough reason to upgrade from PS5 to a PS5 Pro. Been waiting on GTA VI comparisons; it's the only console (timed) exclusive that might get me to bite.

Didn't catch the news about the jump to $900 before posting this. Yeah, I think I might be out on the Pro now lol

GTA6 was the only one I was willing to maybe buy it for if it looked great and ran at 60 FPS compared to what will likely be 30 FPS on the base. Not anymore though, I'm not paying that price.

There were better gaming investments, like a 5090 for $2k.
I saw a 5090 for like $1700 at one point and did not get it. Same way as I didn't get a 4090 at MSRP. Jensen was right, "The more you buy, The more you save!" 😰

By far best PS5 Pro price was BF. You could get the console for $650 and both BestBuy and GameStop had like $350 trade-in.

I bought one early but I don't feel redeemed. I bought one thinking I would have single player first party exclusives to play. Instead I have cancelled games, closed studios, and some GaaS games.

Third parties are picking up some of the slack but I can play those anywhere. Without exclusives, why would I pay a premium to play on PlayStation?

The PS6 is going to flop, at least in the beginning.
If you have more than one place to play games I don't see the point in getting the pro to begin with. I got the pro because I only play on PS so yea even third party games running better is good for me.

$1700 would have been a steal and I would have bought it at that price. Cheapest I saw for me was $2200 and I just couldn't justify shelling out this much money on a GPU at the time. I've been getting the top card since the 900 series, but I think I might skip the next one or wait until something like an RTX 7080.

I think the past five years have made a strong case for buying hardware on day one, even if it's not ready and with no games.

The days of 49$ Gamecubes aren't coming back.

I was able to buy a 5080 for like $1050 so didn't feel like spending 70% more for like 30% more performance. That was a mistake :(.

Same way I was annoyed at Nvidia for having to pay like $1100 for 3080Ti (after not being able to get a vanilla 3080) and didn't get a 4090. That was also a mistake.

If I can get a 6090 for around $2K whenever it comes out I would jump on it but I suspect it will be at least $3K at retail.

I wasn't an early adopter -- I bought it about a year after it released -- but I'm glad I got one before the $200 price hike. People who were sitting on the fence have probably had their minds made up for them.

When my grandkids ask me how I could afford such a big house I'll be like

"I got a base PS5 at MSRP in 2021...and it just kept getting more expensive, until I could trade it in for this house"

I'm really glad I'm playing Crimson Desert on my Pro. It feels it was a good decision! Took a while tho.

I'm okay with it, I still think the incremental improvements wasnt worth the purchase, even at launch. I usually aim for the next iteration of consoles.

I just hope my PS5 doesnt die before the next consoles. That would massively suck.

Saros looks great on base PS5 - cannot wait to see how good it looks on the Pro. Along with all the other PSSR games, and GTA VI on it later this year, I'm very content with my day one purchase.

PS5 was £285 a few months ago, think I saw PS5 Pro for £560. That was the right time to buy, with PSSR2 landing soon after.

Haha, I have barely turned my PS5 on in years. 1000 bucks for a console that is a marginal upgrade from the original, in an ecosystem that has maybe 1 single player exclusive a year, if that, thats worth playing, which still will run fine on the original console anyways? No thanks.

It's the people that bought a decent gaming PC over the last few years that are the winner. A five year old PC will still be more powerful than the PS6 when it comes out eventually. And will actually run games at 4k 60 fps.

They bought a console at scam prices and after a year they are getting something out of it while we are a year away from next gen, yeah sure totally redeemed lol

Well, people that bought a PS5 or PS5 Pro will definitely feel better about it after April 2nd.

I got the base PS5 and the Pro on launch dates. No regrets at all, but I feel bad for people that waited thinking these prices will go down. That was true for basically decades, until this generation.

The PS5 Pro's problem was never the price. It was that it represented a weak upgrade over base PS5 compared to a good PC build.
You couldn't come close to equaling the same specs as Pro when building a PC when Pro was at its cheapest. Certainly can't do so today with the current cost of RAM.

It was also barely more expensive than a Series X, which is obviously a lot weaker.

Next gen is 1.5 years away.

If you're on a budget to the extent the launch price of the PS5 Pro kept you away, it doesn't really make any sense to jump in now. Just wait for the PS6.

I recall back around launch time, everywhere I went, people were calling the console a scam and that Sony was fleecing its customers. I got mine Day 1 and remember questioning if it was a wise decision because the price might go down. My brother even taught I was crazy for dropping that much on a console that would "probably go down in price soon."

Well, fast forward to today, not only has the price gone up by a substantial amount, but with the advent of PSSR2, the promise Cerny made about not having to choose between quality and performance mode is becoming increasingly true (see Crimson Desert that looks better on Pro's performance mode than on PS5's quality mode). Couple that with the fact that the RAM apocalypse has driven prices up the wall, a $700 PS5 Pro seems like a damn steal these days.

So, early Pro adopters redeemed?

Yeah, that's right.

But when Pro launched it was very expensive compared to other consoles and even comparable PC GPUs. But of course between Q4 2024 and now we have seen a lot of changes (RAM prices, GPU shortages etc.) and Pro for quite a long time represented good value (and now with PSSR2 update - even better).

I even advised people to buy it around the time when Sony was doing base PS5 price increases - because Pro would be next. I got mine for ~600 Euro in Q1 2025 and it was a good investment...

Being trust-me-bro'd leaves such a sour taste in my mouth that I can't praise that system just because my grudge won't let me. Fucking hate the modern idea of selling some broke ass shit now and maybe, or maybe not, fixing it later. Then I'm supposed to clap and thank someone for kinda giving me what I paid for a year ago.

Not on my lawn, ya goddamn hoodlums!
