Note: This is not a charity thread or a begging thread, do not mistake it as such. This is just a thread for sharing an experience and coping, nothing more. Do not PM a cent, do not offer PayPal, nothing. To heck with that; I will be fine.

Okay... So, after a hard day of work, I go home and try to unwind... Then a fireman comes to my door and tells me I have to leave as part of my apartment may be in danger.

Long story short, I packed what I could including important personal paperwork, and had to leave. Called insurance, but before I call them, I find out that I had a missed voicemail saying that this month's payment was not properly pulled for some reason and they lapsed my policy...

Great.

So now I am on the road with the most important stuff (hard drives, consoles, dockets, and undies) and 115 bucks for the next 10 days. Thankfully though, I might be able to get a roof over my head as early as tomorrow. Insurance is just bad luck; policy wouldn't have covered the emergency anyways. Still though, just my luck.

I will be fine though. I saved the backup hard drives and tape drives and everything else can be replaced. It's just... Stressful.

Tomorrow I will find out if there was any damage to my things or if the building will be condemned. Right now I think I need some sleep. Good thing I don't work til Saturday!

I reread your post a few times thinking you mentioned what happened but sure enough you didn't. Was it a fire or what?

You might not want money, but people here might be able to help you out with a shelter or a couch, more improbable things have happened.

Where are you?

Not a fire, gas and water caused a pressure explosion and even after hours of work, it is still not stopping.

You should probably be selling your games and consoles.

At least enough to rent out a hotel and food.

Yeah, all I'm seeing is that a part of the apartment MAY be in danger.

Since the water and the gas are flowing non-stop, it could either flood, explode, or damage and crack the foundation, causing everything to fall.

So yeah, pretty serious shit.

I actually only took what was irreplaceable, hard drives, save data, PS3, and Wii and Wii u. I left everything else. No need to sell anything, again I will be fine and I will make it work. I am homeless, not jobless after all.

Earlier in the day did you meet a guy named Tyler Durden?
Nope, never heard of the guy.
So the owner of your building or whatever won't comp you for a hotel room?
They said talk to insurance. They won't open until tomorrow regardless. Right now I am just going through Florida tenant/landlord law so I can get what I deserve within my rights.

As someone who works with the homeless and Salvation Army, I was going to suggest you find a shelter but reading your post it doesn't seem like finding a place to live should be too difficult but that right now you're just placed into a frustrating impromptu but somewhat temporary situation. Hope all is well Huelen!

Fun fact: The first time I saw you was because you were a frequent commenter on Go Nintendo all the way back in like 2009 or something. I've remembered you ever since for whatever reason lol

Awesome, called an old friend I haven't seen in a year. Says I can stay as long as I need to inventory what I brought with me and take it from there.

Truly, I am lucky and grateful. I can't wait to be able to get to bed, and deal with this tomorrow.

Ya, I don't get this. Why is he thinking about spending up to $2000 on an iMac but somehow only has $115 for the next 10 days. He even just bought a $150 Apple TV4.

He did not buy a $150 Apple TV4--it was $14.99 (don't ask).

Never heard of Tyler Durden?

*lowers head in shame*

But seriously.. what does your lease say about it? Normally there's a clause in there stating that if you are forced out for a number of days then the landlord has to provide alternative temp housing (hotel). I know mine has that.

Could there maybe be a law too?

It said 14.99 instead of 149.99 at Best Buy and I argued and fought and won essentially. Lucky me.

Again, I am looking into that in the morning so I don't get screwed over. I want to at least get a hotel.

But yeah, made it to a safe place to rest my weary self and get some much needed sleep. Put every hard disk I had in 2 baskets.

Couldn't bring much with me, but this is one book I just couldn't leave behind, in light of the circumstances.

Goodnight GAF, thanks for the kind words. I'll see what happens tomorrow.

OP: "Something unfortunate happened to me."

Gaffer: "Instead of sympathizing, I'm going to judge you based on how you spend your money."

Yeah, that's reeeeeeally helpful.

Huelen - Sorry to hear it, hope you get back on your feet again soon.

Dude he's literally made 530+ threads. He makes a thread every week about things he wants to buy, then complains he has no money. It happens quite often.

He has $115 for the next ten days. That's poor planning while at the same time talking about buying expensive electronics. He's talked in the past about being broke too. Between the last time he complained about being broke and now this sudden emergency where he only has $115 for the next ten days it should be a wake up call about better financial planning to account for situations like the one he's in now.

I don't care. It's still not anyone else's place to judge him based on how he spends his money.

I think that's open to debate if he's going to point out he only has $115 for the next ten days in the OP while recently talking about buying an iMac that costs just under $2000.

You said that your insurance wouldn't have covered for that anyways, but I don't get this part. They called you because the payment for a single month could not be withdrawn and that lapses your policy? When they couldn't even reach you? No letters, nothing? What kind of insurance policy is that. Is this legit?

Here's hoping you will be able to go back to your apartment or at least get all your things out of there eventually.

No family/good friends nearby where you could stay over for some days?

And this is why he ends up in these situations. If you arent willing to listen, then you wont learn.

It's a common sense thing, if you have $115 left in the world, dont go shopping for $2K apple products.
