Sonic Generations Announced [PS3 / XBOX 360 / PC / 3DS] - No Wii Version Official

Fantastic, a modern Sonic game that won't be held back by technical issues. An unstable 30fps just doesn't work in 2D platformers and will severely hold back the gameplay in the PS3/360 versions as it did in Unleashed but the 2D gameplay will make it even more of an issue here. Actually being able to play thegame in HD won't hurt either. The shots in the PC screenshot thread will be glorious.

Watch from 1:13 and explain to me what causes the massive boost at 1:17.

Then go to 2:05 and explain to me why he uncurls.

Are we watching the same video? That's just his top speed animation, it can be seen prior to the jump as well for 1:13 (The dust trails that is, the camera swaps right then so they are almost off camera). 1:17 doesn't appear to be going significantly faster, if at all, he's running behind some foreground shit right there so it's probably just your mind trying to find things to nitpick? it looks fine to me.
and 2:05? Seriously? He fucking LANDS at a near straight down angle. Of course he uncurls.

I wouldn't expect much more than a straight port tbh. You should be fine with anything from a GTX 460 + modern quad core + 4GB of RAM or better if you want 1080p/60fps.

What do you mean he lands? He's rolling and then randomly uncurls.

As for 'his top speed animation'. Maybe you misinterpreted what I was talking about. I'm talking about him going from lets say 40mph to 100mph with no period of acceleration in between.

Except that he doesn't, he's still in a ball until he hits the platform.

And he also doesn't randomly accelerate to some ludicrous speed, he's going REALLY fast and hits a spring (admittedly the camera angle change makes that a bit dicey) and lands going REALLY FAST.

Dear god, the horror! and then he comes to a complete stop two seconds later because of a wall right there, those fucking assholes and their insistence on speed!

I've been thinking, if a Sonic CD stage is in this game will they have the running animation from that game for that stage? Would be cool.

The infinity one? All that reminds me of is the fact we'll never get the "Super Peel-Out" back :S

I mean, as useless as I considered that move to be, it was cool.

Yeah that's about what I was thinking, except with a 560 Ti instead maybe. I'd naturally want to try other PC games once I get it built, but I'll mainly be building it for PSO2 and Sonic Generations.

You seem like someone knows what they are talking about when it comes PC's. So i got a question for you regarding motherboards. A friend of mine who builds enthusiast PC's says I am ripping myself off I get a motherboard that's less then 200 dollars... lol. Is that true? I showed him a 150 dollar one I thought looked good a while ago and he said it looked cheap x.X. I'd honestly prefer to spend around 130 dollars on a motherboard at most. but.. if what he says is true.. then I guess I can go for a more expensive one...

I took a look at this last night on my ipod s was too lazy to reply :p but I can see what you mean at 1:17, it's like a scripted speed up so sonic hits the next spring correctly to push him back up the slope.

damn scripted areas, sonic 1 and 2 had little to zero of these outside of sonic 2's earthquakes or lava rises, nothing was there to force sonic unless you became stuck in a pipe then the game would give you a gentle nudge, not stick you into top gear instantly like this game does.

I am disappoint.

also, 0:32 - Oh man, that is some ridiculous shit. How could that be there?

That's my biggest complaint about the game. In Sonic 1, it would just nudge you into a spin to go through there. Here, it shoots you into high speed. It looks so unnatural.

Yea my heart sank when I saw that. First thing thats really make me have that oh so familiar feeling of.... oooh shit what are you doing Sega. =( I wouldn't mind if it rolled you up into a ball and sort of prodded you on a bit like in the classics, but.. THAT is ridiculous and will hopefully be fixed before release... Yea..?? Right??

Does this pretty much confirm it, then? I remember SEGA saying Sonic 2006 (the terrible Xbox and PS3 one) was coming to PC, with Amazon listing it for pre-orders. It never happened though. Hopefully this will be different (as Generations actually looks some degree of good.)

Sonic just Rolled out of a big loop and DOWN a slope in ball form...although that camera angle zoom in makes it look like he going quicker...that actually proper physics...Sonic actually had built up enough of a burst to continue rolling at high speeds...that not a fucking scripted event...:/

****

Sonic UNCULRS whenever Sonic's rolling is going too slow...its part of a (IMO Better) Spindash system that incorporates the instant spindash (the one that takes no actual revving).

Uncurling isn't player controlled. After you slow down enough (or because of a script event) Sonic uncurls. You can perform a low jump to get yourself out of a rolling state and perform another Spindash (like the old games). Any speed you did build up before is lost as you still have to do a full stop to perform another one (Old school).

In SA1 you could spam it endlessly. In Generations, you have to be uncurled in order to use it.

In other words all it is is a Spin Dash without the need of reving and you can go into it while running, but that's about it and is really not that much of a change or anywhere near GAMEBRAKING.

If you don't fucking like it you can play the game the OLD WAY STILL! ITS NOT THAT FUCKING SERIOUS!

th_get-over-it.gif

It simpler terms....

Spin Dash > Roll at top speed > slow down enough to uncurl > Spindash

Or Spindash > Roll at top speed > timed lowjump when decelerating > Uncurl > Spindash. (Like The Old Games)

Its not as easy as it looks to do properly and the game is not built upon INSTANT spindash either...its not like Unleashed/Rush where the game is built upon the boost button.

Or play it the old way 100% and don't use the Instant Speed Dash button...Its THAT EASY! If you REALLY cared that much about "getting you classic Sonic fix" just pretend its not there or is it in the back of people's mind the classic experience wasn't as great as you thought it was....hmmmmm?

Taking advantage of whatever Sonic's new abilities he had to make good runs though was always part of the game...that's like getting mad at Sonic3&K because the flame shield made the level faster. Scripted parts I get...but its not like SCRIPTED PARTS where NEVER in the classics...they ALWAYS were. Angel Island Zone probably has the biggest scripted event in the entire series. Seriosuly, replay the games without nostalgia goggles...it really helps giving you insight of certain things.

It would be boring if they didn't implement new elements to make speed running somewhat challenging to do every time. Because just like people like to explore and platform...people also enjoy SPEED RUNNING.

Why must Genesis Sonic be limited to some upgrades?

What's wrong with adding a bit of preference?

They could cancel it, but it does confirm they have one in the works, and seem to be preparing a beta for one reason or anther (Maybe public, likely something only for press)

Now watch as I proceed to spam several hi-larious memetic pictures and talk in a forced, condescending passive-aggressive tone just to show how witty and cool-headed I am!

Why does it bother you that much if somebody notices something awry with the game? I mean, I'd of pointed out how upset some people get over small weird details concerning the physics (which to me don't seem major enough to detract from the gameplay, especially after Sonic 4) but you're taking criticism over something which isn't even yours seriously to a whole new level.

Anyhow, any bets on when we'll eventually see Spagonia? I want a Sonic CD or 3 level shown off so we can put that stupid TSSZ list to rest. Another thing I noticed was it's odd the Heroes level is still undefined, likely because that toyline showed Seaside hill yet logically it's going to be Casino Park if Casino Night's a 3DS exclusive. Also seems weird that Generations toyline includes Sonic 3 and CD-specific toys if they aren't in the game itself.

There are some people in this world that you have to be a dick in order for things to register...I dislike ignorant people , but I can ignore that and sometimes they just don't know

What I hate that I can't ignore is ignorant people that CHOOSE to be ignorant and spread around false shit like they know what they are talking about.

Its the same as having kids...sometimes being nice to my kids, sitting them down and talking to them in a calm manner is not gonna work..sometimes you do have to yell at them and spank them in order for them to get a point.

Do your research before you talk shit...and if your talking shit...don't be but hurt when people talk shit back. Then you just come off as a pussy...

The point I meant was that burst of speed was different to the behaviour shown in the classic GHZ in the same situation (the tunnel), I understand scripted events and they have their place for sure, but I'm just a bit concerned by the insta-dash, thats all. Look dont get me wrong, I want to believe and I'm not bashing the game to death and saying its doomed (the sonic cycle comment was a bit of a joke tbh, but I agree its a touchy subject lol).

I actually agree that it isn't that big of a deal.. I just would like them to keep as close to classics as they can with this I guess. Its really promising so far, I dont want any weird Sonic 4 shit going on.

I did say that it's "like" a scripted scene, sonic gained speed in an usual matter in the video I watched before that post and I stand by what I said.

There is no excuse for the S pipe either, in an old sonic game if you did enter it at walking speed you were not being flung fully into the rings in the sky, here however no matter what you do you will always hit those rings, I dislike that.

No problem man and I understand and I did come off as a bit attacking and I apologize.

I will say though despite this game being close to being like classic gameplay don't expect it to be like it to a T. That's just setting yourself of for disappointment....this is SEGA we are talking about. Sonic 1 to Sonic 3&K all had little changes in the mechanics and physics so I expect the same here as well.

I understand that, but it not like in the old S tubes by the time you reached the end no matter what speed you were going you didn't get shot out at the same level of speed.

Regardless that a valid complaint as it does look unnatural....so I won't even go into that.

For the other complaint I already posted footage that proves its not "like" a scripted event at all...Sonic running speed is fine in that section. Remember rolling BREAKS the speed cap in the classics.

What gets me is how some can get sooo worked up over certain details in a Sonic game. The worse part is people start to post nasty fuckin pictures and say look how weird the fans are. Someone had to look for it to post it. I am gonna guess one will come after this post lol.

I can understand to a degree some of the complaints but, SEGA has been improving over the years especially since Sonic 2006. I say we chill a bit.

That's pretty much the only way, unless you start digging around gray-area places (and there are tons, given that nobody really seems to care if you rip a CD of videogame music and post it online).

The few videogame soundtracks that have released in the USA are generally truncated - there was a North American SA2 OST, for instance, that had less than half the game's tracks on it.

The only "good" videogame soundtrack releases I can recall are the handful Rare's done, and maybe the Halo OSTs Bungie put out.

Actually, I think SEGA released the Sonic Colours OST on iTunes in the US and Europe.

I remember the soundtrack release of Crash of the Titans being very well done, although its still missing a track or three. Made no sense since it was only released digitally but definitely better than the usual "8 tracks from the game" that most games get over here.

Same reason Amazon barely supports soundtracks. Most publishers don't see them as a huge selling point

Wow, it's amazing how out of hand the Sonic discussions can get at times. Sonic's physics aren't spot on, the frame rate peaks, and doesn't appear to be locked at a consistant thirty, and they're numerous glitchy occasions that occur...Does that make it a bad game? Not by a long shot, but there is nothing wrong, nor overly critical, about pointing out the obvious.

(Referring to the above dispute)

Just had an epiphany...Sonic 4 is actually a really good game!! After owning it since it's release back in October, I've periodically been playing it, but hating it "for what the game wasn't". Now that I've sat down, forgot about Sonic 1-3 physics, and just played it, I could actually step back and class its greatness with the Genesis Saga! Sounds crazy, but I do believe the game, homing attack and all, is a competent sequel. If the glitches were cleaned up, and new additions to the gameplay mechanics weren't mandatory, I could go as far as to compare it to remakes like NSMBW and Contra DS.

God Dammit, are those special stages hard!! Feels rewarding upon completion though.

They may be overpriced, but you've gotta know where to look and run around to get discounts. I just import mine from either Play-Asia, Amazon Japan or CDJapan. I import RPG soundtracks and Sonic soundtracks. There aren't a lot of places in NA to purchase them unless you go to a local import shop or something. There is a mall around where I live that has a store which does sell authentic soundtracks, but this is in Canada.

I can't recall that many soundtracks where you can buy them in-store in North America. I remember when I was little and I used to go to the local HMV to import them, though! The first soundtrack I imported was Chrono Cross and the guy there was like, "We have Chrono Trigger in the system! I didn't even know they made game soundtracks!" :lol

And, uh... wow @ bickering. *goes back to Ocarina of Time*
