Everyone was so sure the final two games would be Afterburner II/Outrun, although this is hardly a disappointing outcome. I wonder what the fourth game will be...

EDIT: oh, and another thing, why did they bother adding remappable controls?

Do old school Sonic fans consider this or Sonic 2 as the better game? I have Sonic 2 on the Wii.

Sonic 2, for sure.

I'll buy it. of it.

Also Sonic 2 is the superior game, but this will be cool for the sheer novelty of it.

I was hoping they'd focus more on arcade games for their 3D remakes. The Super Hang On port was glorious, and was the reason I finally broke down and bought a JP 3DS (stop laughing!)

I was really hoping the follow up would have been Outrun.

Yeah, I honestly thought they'd just stick to Arcade/Super Scaler stuff. I wouldn't mind another Genesis game like Ristar or Shinobi III.

I wonder if they'll implement the additions (Spin Dash, toggling the spike bug) from Sonic Jam. I wouldn't put it past M2 to do something like that.

I like Sonic 2 a little more, but both games are excellent. I'm not a big fan of Sonic 3, but that's because I haven't played that game much, as I used to get stuck on the second stage of Hydrocity Zone (and then the same happened on Marble Garden Zone).

This isn't the 3D people want.

Now that I'm finally seeing the link. I feel bamboozled by all the hype in this thread.

I would forgive for Sonic 3D Blast HD (with Saturn music and enhanced Bonus Stages). Or you know... some new actual 3D/Modern Sonic..... Don't be a Capcom Sega, you still have a future.

Bummer there's no widescreen, but this would be an instant purchase if they ever release it in NA.

I prefer Sonic 1 for its platforming elements, although most people will prefer Sonic 2 (and a few wackos Sonic 3). All are worth checking out at some point though.

Huh. I wonder what the differences between the Japanese and overseas versions of Sonic 1 even are.

They need to get this and Space Harrier in North America ASAP. Sega's supposed to be all about this digital strategy now...what's the hold up? :|

More info from google translate:
- Spin dash can toggle on/off
- Can save anywhere
- Stage select
- Fully customizable controls
- Includes both Japanese and English version (apparently there's a small difference between the two versions)
- 2 screen modes: normal and CRT mode
- 3D options to emphasize depth or pop-out effects a la Mario 3D Land
- Adjustable sound balance

I looked at the images in the link and seriously thought "what is different."
I am still serious, I can't see it from that website. I suppose the 3D effect is supposed to happen when you're playing the game on 3DS, but most other games seem to give you some hint of what to expect when you're looking at screens from a non-3D device... like your computer.

Like this image:

I can't read Japanese, but I figure that they're showing off the two versions. As far as I can tell, both images are identical except for some saturation. Sorry if I'm missing something obvious here.

I'm sorry but I'm being serious :(

Japanese version has scrolling clouds in the background of Green Hill Zone, as well as different spike mechanics (spikes ignore knockback invincibility if you happen to bounce back onto another set of spikes.)

That's all I know off the top of my head.

Looks like one is emulating some sort of old CRT. Rounded edges on the screen, a bit fuzzy, slightly off colours.

This was my first wish for what Sega could do in 3D after Space Harrier, glad to see they felt the same. It will be amazing if they follow suite with Sonic 2-& Knuckles if this ends up selling well in Japan (and whenever they decide to bring it to the west)
Sega does what Nintendont
This saying still holds true even now.

That's probably what it's trying to do. Space Harrier 3D had a similar mode where it made the screen tilt/move constantly to replicate the arcade versions feel.

They are probably showing a TV mode option. Other 3D Sega Classics have modes like that (space harrier simulates the arcade cabin), this probably imatates a CRT screen with what it seems a blurry/scanlines filter.

All the rest are in widescreen and most of the originals are remade in polygons, so I don't know what you're talking about.

Here, guys, just get this. http://www.amazon.com/Sonic-Classic...=UTF8&qid=1367979905&sr=8-1&keywords=sonic+ds

Wasn't the emulations/conversion a bit iffy?

There's a picture of Sonic doing a spin dash on the site somewhere.
