did you see yesterdays presentation? they announced like 100 things :)
I saw the announcements, yeah. But this is the keynote - shouldn't they still be a factor?

Edit: Oh right. Sir Howard is a "content" guy, not comfortable around the tech that actually makes it possible, or something.

Hey, now THAT is looking good. I can see myself spending some time there. I think people will have a different view of Home a year from now when others have jumped on board, and people are playing a load of different games. What they need to do though is have trophies attached to these different games as well.

Sony are doing things right with the pricing IMO. Keep playing online for free, and if people want to pay for accessories and things beyond, go for it. I still say there is no way MS should force people to pay to unlock the multiplayer parts of a game that developers include on disc. Charge for the community aspects, the party system, cross game invites, but not just playing online.

I think there are girls named Ryan. I'm sure I knew one.

With other 'in-jokes' there (like the running-man lines), I like to think it was subtle commentary on the gender-bending nature of some of Home's denizens :p

With 17 million PSN users and if 33% of them bought something on home, which is roughly 5.5 million users buying someone on home. It's only about .18 cents per person. C'mon GAF use your brain! It's not that big of a shocker to have made 1 million dollars already.

So Home is a failure as it should have made at least $50 million by now?

But... HOME is stupid and no one will use it and Sony's just sinking money into something they'll never get a return on because it's stupid!1

.

I wanted it to be cool just like everyone else but after i got it, i regret ever wanting it. I must say though the EA space looks really cool.

As a gambler im actually excited by the idea of a virtual casino and a virtual poker room in home. I would probably use home alot more if those existed. I can imagine avatars gathered around a virtual craps table all excited when someone hits their point. Its not real money but it seems like a cool idea.

EA Space is > HOME right now. I wonder if we can get Peter Moore to make a HOME appearance.

But Home's been downloaded by 3.4 million people. :(

C'mon GAF, use your first grade reading skills!

The EA space looks mighty impressive. If Sony can get support out of a huge publisher like EA I'd say they can get support for Home out of anybody in the gaming industry, which is good for Home's future.

Hopefully the space will be useful and functional. Prolly a safe bet that the 2009 titles will have game launching out of the box.

So it's roughly .30 cents now per person. Still my main point was for people acting shocked that 1 million is some how surprising.

EDIT: Actually 33% of 3.4 million is roughly $1.12 per person  Still pocket change.

OhMaGawd 1 million dollars?1! It's like 1995 cheesy game show grand prize money all over again!1

Why do people think the EA space looks impressive? Isnt it just another "bowling alley" with a different set of games with a different venue? Doesnt look like it fixes the various issues with Home

Of course it doesn't, no space can do that. That's for the home client to do.

But it looks better than the other non-core game spaces. More games, and some of them might actually be replayable (e.g. poker).

So who is going to buy PSN poker titles when you can play it free on Home?

That one PSN poker game on psn now? If so, because you can boot it from the xmb and don't have to meet the people in the EA booth. Also because it has PSeye support, and maybe better graphics/sound.

The EA space looks cool and playing poker with other players is even cooler. But if that do that dumb crap of having a limited amount of tables and you have to wait your turn that will be so stupid. I dont even bother with the arcade machines in the bowling place.

Functionality. Look at echochrome on HOME and on PSN.

Echochrome is a completely different game on PSN. Poker is poker and it would be way easier to find opponents and get friends to play poker with on Home then it would be to get friends or even depend on strangers to pay $15 for a Poker game.

Because all I want to use Home for is to play a bunch of free mini games. Sony's current space has very few, this seems to have quite a few of them. So for me at least, it fixes the major problem I have with Home.

Thats the point I was getting at. Unless they have a gazillion tables, you are going to run into one the same issues that make people dislike Home in the first place. You wont be playing these games, you'll be waiting in line.

Its nice to see a dev spend more effort on something, but really, they are just spending more effort in advertising their own content.

If they're smart, they'll drop you in a seperate instance that's still in the same space..the Red Bull space seems to spawn a different instance for each player, so there's no waiting for its game..but the downside to that is that you're up in the air on your own (but you can still see the people in the same space as you down on the ground, chatting etc.)

It's still in beta. It's just public now.

From the remarks of the director it would seem like it will stay beta, maybe that's changed. But from what I understood the release is a public beta because it will evolve continuously, but it is nevertheless the release. I guess maybe they are sort of playing it safe by being able to point to a real release in case the way they're doing it doesn't work(maybe that's happened already?), but essentially this is the way they were doing it. Potentially it would stay "public beta" forever, because that's the premise. I haven't dug very deeply into Home though.
