Sony 'probably would have' cancelled The Last Guardian if fans hadn't kept asking

Sony "probably" would have cancelled The Last Guardian if fans hadn't kept asking for an update on the project, Shuhei Yoshida has revealed.

Speaking to EDGE, the president of SCE Worldwide Studios explained that porting the project from PS3 to PS4 was "really, really tough. Especially because we were not sure if the game could be made.

"Tech issues aside, the game was still early in development, so we had to have a really strong desire to continue the project and rebuild on PS4. And of course we believed in the vision of Ueda-san, and Ueda-san and the core teams really wanted to see this realised, and so did I. Having so many people asking us about the game was great encouragement for us to continue the development."

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Sony deserves a medal for actually releasing a game they announced years ago.

Of course fans kept asking. There is nothing out there that fills the Team ICO void in a fan's heart. Let's hope it sells really well

It's like peer pressure. Only good things come from peer pressure. Best days of my life...

So that first video was more of a concept, they probably only had a vague idea as to what the game would actually be.

why was it moved to the ps4 in the first place? Why didn't they finish the ps3 version?

PS3 couldn't handle what they were trying to make.
In a prior interview, they even admitted that the video they had from the PS3 era was rendered at a higher speed because the performance was so bad.

I was sure this game would have been cancelled before being revived tbh, and was sick to death of hearing about it (even as a joke) during E3/TGS/Gamescom every year... but... the people that wanted it and wouldn't shut up about it were apparently going about things the right way. Who'd have thought?

Doesn't look like that at all, unless they do much more impressive things elsewhere in the game.

PS3 couldnt handle it.

that gameplay trailer form all those years ago is actually single frames all manually put together. It wasnt runing real time.

YEah because rendering that huge animal in those big environments sure looks easy............. especially with that animation and detail.

And now when the game is released, the expectations are sooo high that it will be near impossible to meet them. Double edged sword. Hope it turns out good still.

Another important thing that needs to highlighted is that TLG demanded current generation hardware. They simply couldn't get it to run on the PS3. Heck the demo in 2009 was made using a super speced PS3.

Let that be known to all the people who think hardware specs can't possibly hold back games.

So, taking into consideration the hype when it was first announced, fans saved a game that was so far gone Sony would've canceled it. Now that's a guaranteed quality product right there.

Nor does it mean it will be a mess? Maybe after seeing the fan reaction they felt it was worth redoing..doesn;t mean it will be a shoddy product.
