Sony: "We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5"

This made investors nervous, tanked their stock price, and made potential customers panicked and angry, they had every reason to squash it by any means necessary.
Another nice day for tech stocks today. Oh wait.

So does that mean the rest of what bloomberg said is BS? Price too?

The price was presented as their Analyst's analysis so it has been nothing more than hot air to begin with. They couldn't get away with presenting it as "anonymous sources" because it'll probably be officially announced tomorrow. Can't claim "anonymous sources" when you risk getting debunked by the official announcement 24 hours later.

If there was any validity to the report, they would have stayed quiet as they usually do.

Imagine defending charlatans like Bloomberg, lol. 😂
The trolls are polishing up their alt accounts for an epic assault tomorrow. To quote Trump "It will be the greatest attack ever seen". Any bets on how many bans tomorrow?

I wouldn’t call Bloomberg article a fud, there might have been some reports/rumours about it, but they usually are more careful with stuff they publish. Sony response is probably forced by shareholders, I am guessing that these news made it through to eg. Bloomberg terminal and might have affected Sony stock prices/trading.

They didn't deny the SoC issues and refuse to comment on that. Really all they said they aren't LOWERING thier production. Which doesn't mean much if they aren't able to meet the said production. So very coporate PR way to address shareholders while not addressing the root issue.

Imagine continuing to defend Bloomberg's charlatan-in-chief. 😂

The report explicitly claimed they had lowered production targets.

If they haven’t changed production targets... doesn’t that answer the question directly? Everything else is just noise.

We're going to find out anyway if there are shortages or not, not sure why this needed a response from them, if anything the shortage fears would spark more pre-orders.

Am I right or am I right?

Probably. Bloomberg just pulls random shit out their arse, smells it, then if it smells good, makes an article about the stink.

I think the PS5 BOM was BS too.

No kidding! Bloomberg isn't Kotaku, It's supposed to be a reliable news & business source not a gaming rag that runs with rumors posted on GAF, ReeAsylum and Twatter.

We should be able to rely on information they report, but apparently NOT. This is disgusting and I don't trust their info on the estimated BoM for consoles either, in fact I don't trust their information on ANYTHING now.

Told you so. 😎

Because ps4 were supply constraited, it is possible that it would have sold 15m too.

It took 2-3 months here after the launch to see ps4 on stores kind of normally. And I had to check tens of local/european sites constantly to find one console, took me at least a week or two after the launch to find one in France Amazon

Meanwhile switch were available always on launch/after it. (It were sold out on us/japan and some places, ps4 sold out globally so it were really popular even compared to super popular switch)

So, it is pretty sure that PS4 would have sold more if it would be always available. How much more? My guess is +10m total easily

Not a fan of Grubb or anything but all he was doing was speculating on the bloomberg article.
Yes, I agree he was speculating. But if you, I mean grab, say technical jargon you don't understand to a wide following of people you gained by leaking dates and times of event across the summer gaining their trust as an "insider". Whom are likely to spread your "speculation".

I believe the journalist who want to be impartial has to understand whatever they say could be taken out of context and spun as a negative thing for brand x or z.

If he had years of experience in research and development as a design engineer or an integration engineer or as a specialist in the field, I would take his words more seriously. But he is someone with no technical background talking out of his ass.

Anyway this is my opinion

The RROD had nothing to do with anything but solder/production.
The YLOD is capacitors , easily replaced (Solder issue as XBOX was an assumption and years later still persists as "common knowledge")

The worst issues ever with any playstation console have been the fragile early Playstation 1 disk drive laser actuation assemblies and the
lasers on the playstation 2, basically.... Then the YLOD on the fat PS3 which eventually happens to mostly all of them because its capacitors
and they simply fall out of spec after time passes.
You haven't read the other FUD thread have you?....

Can Bloomberg get in trouble legally for this or can Sony sue them? This isn't fanboy console warring BS when an outlet that is primarily devoted to financial and stock market news reports false information that causes a publically traded company's stock price to drop.

Also Bloomberg had reported about PS5's manufacturing issues before this back in February before the actual PS5 console was revealed. Seems pretty creditable and plausible that issues have gotten worse.

It was completely different issue, in February all factories in China just stopped and nobody knew for how long.

There was a huge transaction today right around a low point, around 72k shares. My bet is someone is fucking with the price to get in before SNE recovers...That writer needs an investigation if this story was bullshit as Sony said.

Seems like Sony should actually try to get ahead of the rumor mongering and actually let us know what the hell is happening tomorrow.

Very true

If someone shorted right before the article went live or made a purchase afterwards. Someone could have made some decent money.

At the beginning already... 1 minute mark or so.

It's just interesting why such a report would surface then. These kind of reports make huge changes in minute/hours on stock exchange...
If you think about the fact that some people try to make 7% per year on average at stock exchange a change of 2-3% is really a lot.
Sometimes I am asking myself how controlled all of these things are by the end of the day.

I have no ideia but there are a lot of big investigations about these subjects that are illegal... you can't create "news" to artificially change the shares of a company to own beneficies.

Anyway for sony to come out and make a statement says a lot.

Pulling shit out of his arse. It's one thing for us nobodies to do it but he's someone who gets taken seriously by a lot of people (unfortunately).
