Sony's latest State of Play is already comfortably its most watched ever, proving the format is growing in popularity.

Despite only broadcasting days ago, on 12th February, the format holder's latest livestream has already topped 3.2 million views. That's more than 200,000 views more than the previous most-watched episode, June 2025's instalment.

Perhaps most important this time is that the latest State of Play was universally well received, with our Push Square poll showing at least 83% thought it was good. Pleasing the majority in this era of gaming discourse is truly a remarkable feat.

Seems about right. This was the first State of Play in years I can remember where I didn't finish it thinking "I should have just watched the highlights instead of wasting my time with that". Some games in the middle I don't care about, but overall a solid showcase.

Best SoP has the most views.
I wonder if there were a bunch of particular rumors that revolved around this SoP?
A ton of views came after it was already broadcasted. And the only rumor was DMC6 I think?
Most watched maybe, mostly liked unlikely.
It's definitely the most liked one here on GAF:

I thought it was a solid B. I find most of these shows disappointing from all three of the console manufacturers. I was probably happiest with Capcom and Konami, but I'm interested in the GoW remakes, Saros, and maybe Marathon.

Most people that are going to be objective can actually say that there was variety and a little bit of something for everybody. Sony has been faltering with these events but this one was nowhere near a dud. They don't have to be games you like but if you're analyzing the industry you have to be objective just because it's not to your taste at times. That's what I don't get about why people say some shows are failures versus not. In this case I think they did very well and they showed nowhere near all the games they have from their top studios. Optics matter and they did very well

It's a better one than their last few for sure, but I wonder why it got them their best numbers.

I think they've had bigger showcases before.

I'm genuinely surprised, I'm happy people were happy with it. Personally, I thought it was just another C/D for the most part considering its length and the few things I was personally interested in.

I was just curious if there were any particular things revolving around this SoP to make it the most watched ever.

Which one are you thinking?

I think there was just one about DMC6, which didn't happen.
Nothing in particular, just curious about the above quote reply.

I'd give it a 7.5, but that's saying something cause I think most of the State of Plays suck. This was the best one by quite some distance, even if the majority of what was shown I have no interest for.

And that was just a taste. The real main course comes in June, and that one will blow away their E3 2015 press conference.

Eh. I guess 5 years of mediocrity and low energy across the game industry will have people thinking this show was the shit.

Honestly guys, really ask yourselves: What was it that elevated this show? A distant remake? A cheap looking John Wick title? Another entry in the 2D platformer spinoff grift log?

Nothing there looked particularly amazing, and the sales on most of those games will mostly reflect that.

It was a good Direct, especially compared to the last ones, who have been middling at best. Lots of good stuff was announced. Castlevania Belmonts Curse was the best highlight of the show, no doubt. Feels like Konami is getting back on track to the good old days of being a video game powerhouse, albeit with the help of external devs.

A lot of showcases suck. A whole lot. But this one left a good impression for me.

Even though no Yotei on PC... Or Bloodborne... Actually? Fuck you Sony!

It's worth watching just to see Konami announcing more games in 10 minutes than Sony has in the last 2 years

wtf are you on about. Overwhelmingly liked

Was a very solid 8 / 10 showcase
Yup. Solid B+ for me. But GAF chuds that hate everything strongly disliked it, mostly for having trailers of video games and not the one they wanted.
