Sony's Shuhei Yoshida: newly announced product at CES 2014 (VR headset?)

What happened to the Sony VR thing? Was that all just a load of hogwash or is there any truth to it?

Seems like we all got anxious for a head mounted TV.

lots of lovely confusion coalesces in threads like this.

- the tweet by Yoshida didn't specifically mean any VR display launch, unless it is misread by people. That has already been discussed in this thread a lot
- The HMZ-T series aren't VR helmets
- Sony have launched HMZs before at CES, it wasn't unlikely we'd see a revision.
- None of this means Sony *aren't* doing a game-focused VR solution, there is still a lot of smoke suggesting they are.

My guess would be they'd announce such a thing at a more gaming focused event - GDC, PlayStation Meeting, that sort of thing. Something a little smaller where they can spend more time with specialist press getting hands-on.

Well, I hope you are right!

It would suck if this vaunted peripheral turned out to be all "hot air".

Still sucks there was no solid news on it here.

Just found this: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/sony-ces-keynote-hanks-stringer,news-3263.html

Tom Hanks demoing the Sony transparent VR glasses in the patents posted in this thread.

Very old. BTW, that CES keynote was hilarious.

I'm sure he knows that, the old CES keynote was re-posted as it was using the patents highlighted in this thread. Sony from 2009 already experimenting with this type of technology is exciting to think if they've been continuing this R&D for all these years, the way technology itself is advancing especially in the realms of VR after seeing what the Rift can do, I can't wait to see what Sony's can do.
