[Spain] Weekly console sales (constantly updated) | GSD/GFK data from Vandal.net via Ruben Mercado

Elden Ring hype is off the charts. Already outsold Horizon on PS5, with one less week of sales.
Both have free upgrades for PS5 (and the Xbox version of Elden Ring is Xbox One and Xbox Series in one).
So really it's like PS4 + PS5.
It'll be different with GT7, that's not free to upgrade.

Apparently we gonna go through the same clown show as with the weekly UK physical threads. Just let me get some popcorn real quick :messenger_beaming:

The only clown show is the narrative that Elden Ring Vs Horizon narrative.

Both sold extremely well on Playstation.

Yes, I agree that comparison is largely if not completely useless.

Yeah both are great games that sold a ton and are critically acclaimed. Some people are trying hard to paint a negative picture on Horizon due to it being a 1st party exclusive because of reasons.

I mean, the first Horizon sold more than 10 million units and the sequel is tracking similarly to its predecessor and its on its way to breaking that 10 million barrier. Yet its somehow made to look like a failure because it sold less than Elden Rings.

I agree that the narrative is stupid. The comparison is still interesting, I think nobody really expected Elden Ring to be outselling Horizon on Playstation (I certainly didn't). This doesn't mean Horizon is selling bad, it's doing very well. People just need to chill.

Yeah, I think Horizon is going to do great in terms of sales and so will its VR game. Yes, there are Xbox fanboys -whom have done the stupid comparison for fanboy reasons.

Re: the 10m number; the one thing that I don't have a good picture/insight of the bundles/sales that H:ZD had, what impact that had in terms of unit sales and whether PS continues the same strategy this gen. I suspect it would end up being the same once we get into the mid-life of the console.

The general consensus is that the PS5 games are holding their value so far. I could be completely wrong on this though.

Sony knows that it dominates Microsoft in Europe and Japan, as a result, they are wisely focusing on distribution in North America to create as large a lead in this region as they can with the limited supplies available.
Xbox is currently outselling PS5 in the US and UK too so they are not creating a lead there currently. Sony clearly struggled with supply in February.

Sony forecasted a horribly low shipment for this quarter. It’s going to look bleak until the summer.

Last two months xbox is outselling ps in unit sales in those markets, ltd ps is probably still ahead.

Not sure what date range Woopah Woopah was talking about
That’s like saying product x outsold product y in the last 5 seconds because someone just bought product x.

It’s beyond silly as we all know LTD the ps5 is ahead and the only restraint on sales is supply.

People are still buying PS4 because they can't find PS5 stock anywhere, it's crazy.
Looking at the numbers, no, they really aren't
PS4 is also supply constrained since the previous quarter of the PS5 release. There have been very low shipments since then, even smaller than the PS5 ones. Sony focused the limited manufacture available they had to mostly make PS5s.

The PS4 shipments decreased with the release of PS5 way more than they did with previous PS generation shifts and it's fair to assume it's due to the lack of chips because Sony said they wanted to continue supporting it during at least 3 years more, keep doing games for it and still has a huge active userbase.

I'm sure all of Spain had more than 15 new PS4's in stock. It could just be case of people not wanting to spend money waiting for different hardware.

Yes, that's right, but you can buy a million used PS4s if you want for a very affordable price, while if you want a PS5...

When I bought my PS5 I sold my PS4 Pro in a day. People still buy PS4 because there are a hundred million out there, even if SONY isn't able to manufacture more units there are already enough in the wild. It's a very different situation with PS5.

I am not sure the shortening to 5 seconds as a comparison make sense. 2 month out of ~16 months isnt significant. I might need to check December.

NPD had xbox #2 again for Nov and Dec 21 for units.
GSD/GFK had xbox #2 for Dec 21 for units

I was just giving the likely data that Woopah was referring to.

I didn't argue that the ps5 isn't supply constrained as hell. I don't believe that the ps4 is as someone else in the thread thinks, I just suspect its people not wanting to pick it up.

Horizon also outsold the combined versions of Elden rings on PC + Xbox. The game is huge.

Also despite Elden Rings on PS systems having Horizon as competition, the PS version still outsold the combined version on PC + Xbox.

Playstation is the home of From games indeed.

I also like to live in the world of make believe based on incomplete data.

At least in all the main retailers of Spain the PS4 is totally sold out like the PS5, only available in a few places as "semi nueva" (2nd hand), or in Amazon as import from a few other countries and with a very limited stock (Germany or France). You can double check it here:

I assume these 15 ones are from some spare small shops that aren't part of big retailers, or maybe some spare unit they had somewhere not included in their stock by mistake or something like that. Or maybe were some imported units. Or who knows, maybe Sony only was able to ship 15 consoles to Spain that week.

My response to you was to discredit their argument, not yours.

I used an extreme example to make my point because it is silly. Even outselling it for the last 3-4 months wouldn't make a difference if the only reason it is outselling it is because of supply constraints.

Sony has worldwide dominance, not nearly as much as in North America though where the Xbox brand is stronger, but Sony's focus is clearly to widen the gap in North America compared to the PS4 and X1. That'll prove difficult with supply constraints, but to highlight a month or two where XSX/S had more supply available than PS5 is a little myopic.

Horizon didn't outsell elden ring. It outsold the PS version only. And that is all due to having head start. Horizon 9 days on npd. Elden ring 2 days on npd.

Also despite Elden Rings on PS systems having Horizon as competition, the PS version
That is UK. Not the entire world. Elden ring had almost 1m concurrent players on steam at one point.
Today's peak was 819k concurrent players.

The game at this point, sold more than 10m on steam.

Playstation is the home of From games indeed.
It is, if you consider the exclusive they made for those consoles. But elden ring right now, is a PC baby. And the game isn't on steam sale yet.

I find that a very hard thing to digest lol.

Anyway, carrefor shows PS4s available for sale.

75 ps5s am I reading that right?

fucking wow

It's pretty crazy. Sony ships 75 units to a 46 million people country (where PlayStation has always been the top selling console ever since the first PSX, by the way, in fact Spain was the 4th market for PSX after USA, Japan and the UK). Is that all SONY can produce? Because it's ridiculous. Over a year after launch it's still pretty much impossible to get a PS5. What the hell is going on? How many units is SONY manufacturing currently worldwide? What a joke.

Sony probably had a ridiculously small amount and as such chose to ship bigger quantity in markets where they felt the need to make progress.

Like Arioco Arioco said, Spain is already a market where they have a solid lead/presence and since they'll sell them all out instantly regardless of the location, they might have to prioritize certain strategic countries.

What a mess...

Unsure what you’re basing that on, you’re entirely off base

I am specifically talking about 2022 year to date, and in that period there has been more supply of Xboxes in US, UK and Spain than there has been of PS5s. So the recent Spain hardware figures are not a result of Sony prioritising North America, but are a result of Sony struggling with supply this month. Last year, they were able to build a lead over Xbox in the US and still have enough stock left overto outsell Xbox in Spain as well. Currently that is not the case.

Maybe this is due to Sony giving more supply to Asia and other continental Europe countries than Microsoft is, or maybe its because at this moment in time Microsoft is manufacturing more in total (likely thanks to the Series S). Its a constantly evolving situation and for all we know Sony could ship a massive amount of PS5s in March to North America and Spain and Xbox supply could plummet. Will be interesting to see.

EDIT: Just seen the tweet above, which further proves my point.

It goes both ways. People are getting upset at the very normal thing on forums of comparing games because it's striking a nerve because reasons. Why are you getting defensive, are you a dev on the Guerilla Games team?

There is no supply for ps5, it is selling 2 million consoles for the quarter. Xbox us selling more because series S is the only available current gen console. Also the only available console with the 3rd party games too.
