great episode! and gannicus really steals the show...

but as a native german speaker i laughed really hard every time the agrons spoke german, i had to read the english subs to understand a language i use every day :P
and i know thats not really relevant, cause the show is not that historic accurate, but the german they spoke also sounded much to modern. i would guess the language sounded a lot different back then...but whatever...

and ouch at the face slice...

Lol I feel the same whenever I hear farsi. They most likely do use a modern/stylized version of non-English languages though just for the sake of consistency.

I will say that the line "my cock grows hard at the thought " still sounds awesome when transcribed.

"my cock grows hard at the thought " was a great line, but also the one the to modern language showed most.

He says something like "allein bei dem Gedanken daran geht mir schon einer ab", which isn't a bad translation per se, but sounds like something a german teenager would say.
But as I said it doesn't really bother me, it's just funny :)

I'm pretty sure nobody said "fuck" back then either.

Also, the Romans thought a large penis was the sign that you're a savage animal or barbarian, something they may have adopted from the Greeks, which are well known for making heroic naked statues with small penises. In this show they seem to value large cocks, with Batiatus saying that he would give Spartacus a statue with a giant cock, more in line with modern pop culture than Roman culture. Also everyone hated circumcision back then, it was the sign of a Jew. I think they showed Crixus circumcised in Season 1 but I can't recall since it was a brief scene.

Ya but I doubt they're gonna cgi an uncircumcised dick onto Crixus just for historical accuracy. Actually, you know what. Im going to stop right there before this turns into another circumcision thread lol!

They actually used a prosthetic penis for the horse cock character in Season 1. There was an interview where they mentioned some of the men used prosthetic penises but didn't specify which ones. Horse cock would be the logical answer.

I could see that given he was parted from it at the end of the episode

I think in the movie Y Tu Mama Tambien they had to put a prosthetic penis on one of the actors because the character was supposed to be cut (or uncut?) because it had something to do with his socioeconomic status. I'm just saying, it can be done. :p

- 'Spartacus' casts Julius Caesar for season 3
EW.com said:
Spartacus will face some Roman legends in season three.

Starz and Spartacus producers have just cast actors to play famed leader Julius Caesar and Marcus Crassus in the hit show. EW has learned exclusively that Aussie TV actor Todd Lasance (Crownies) has been cast as a young Caesar,
who will begin his ascent toward ruling the empire. He’ll use his deadly intelligence and skill with a sword to try and crush the slave rebellion.

Brit TV actor Simon Merrells (The Wolfman, Family Affair) will play Crassus,
the richest man in Rome, who craves the power and respect that would come from defeating Spartacus.

They should really keep Caesar and Crassus out of the picture until the end of season 3 so they can get 5 seasons out of it (w/o the prequel). Also nice that they're going to play with history by including Caesar.

Awesome that they cast both of them. I hoping they fudge with history a bit and give Ceasar a bigger role than he had historically.

I'm willing to bet that next season Team Rome will take mostly in Rome instead of Capua. Certainly makes sense historically.

Interesting news. A while back I remember DeKnight saying that he felt like 5 seasons would be perfect for the show, and knowing how popular this show is, I can't imagine him not getting what he wants. (unless Starz wants to milk the show for as long as possible) I'm guessing Crassus either won't be the big bad of season 3, or he'll be the big bad for the rest of the series...?

Horse cock was fake? Makes me feel a little better about myself...

holy shit holy shit
Mark Antony and Caesar? what movie is that?
edit: answered already
damn I need to see John Carter

nice to hear Caesar and Crassus join in season 3, we will see how the rebels handle some roman gods ^^
rather poorly

So...

3 more seasons with Crassus and Caesar as villains?

Historical spoilers:
Will they change the fate of Spartacus? Will we see a season without Spartacus?

Would be interesting if they decide to make a Caesar series after Spartacus.

That would be awesome. Im wondering how accurately will they portrait Crassus and Pompey. Those two had very big influence in the fall of Roman Republic and rise of Roman Empire.

I think Varinius will be the big bad next season, with Ceasar and Crassus in the background being setup for future seasons.

After Glaber, it was Varinius who stepped up to the plate next.

I think it would be really fucking cool but probably fucking expensive if they did a story on Hannibal with the Spartacus style. Or do something with the barbarian hordes.

I don't think they'll unleash Crassus onto the story full tilt quite yet. He'll be a background character for a bit.

Yoooooo.. H B mother fucking K!! Dude does not care. Brilliant twist to have him throw up the middle fingers to both Glaber and Lucretia.

Historical spoilers:
Historically I remember reading that they never actually found Spartacus's body. Could lead to something in the show? It would be a limited angle to go down, and I would expect it to be something that lasts an episode rather than a season, but it could be interesting seeing the aftermath of the murders.

Okay, I started to watch ep 7 and Agron and the slave dude speaking "German". Lolwut. I'm German and at first I didn't realize he started speaking German. Should've went the extra mile and have them speak a Germanic root language, if the actors can't pronounce Modern German halfway naturally. I mean, it's over a thousands years early for the modern language, anyway.

I know I'm in a minority, but it really took me out of it :/

Edit: Lol at Glaber having his totally unsuspicious and discrete goon squad full of outsiders, foreigners and half-beasts in plain sight while talking about Spartacus' mongrel horde.

New episode tonight.
Balance

Spartacus gets a chance for vengeance when a prominent Roman is captured, but will he satisfy desire at the cost of the greater good? The intrigue amongst Glaber and the women surrounding him heats up.

They don't have much screentime though, i wouldn't watch it just for them :P
